It’s a pity that Donyell Marshall only showed up when Stockton and Malone were on their way down. Had he come some 3 years earlier and the Jazz could have won a ring.

Marshall was easily the best 3rd player they had in the post-Hornacek years. I thought the 2000-2001 Jazz should have gone farther than they did. They should have beat Dallas in that first round series. After this season, Malone declined significantly, and the Jazz were no longer an elite team. Toward the end of his career, Malone lost the lift in his legs and had to take more of those turn around fadeaway jumpshots. When they were falling, the Jazz were still a premier team, but they didn't always fall. Stockton, though, was still an elite player up to his retirement, and could have played more seasons as a starting point guard on an elite team. I wish he had tried to sign somewhere else. I would bet that some teams called him and tried to talk him into it.
