  • Let's chat about the most recent Tik Tok trendy persona: "that girl" who manages to eat healthy, go for a run, meditate, and journal, all by the time you've hit snooze.
    hi. hello.
This channel is all about breaking down the biology behind our bodies and health so we can avoid falling victim to trends... then again this channel also features many aspects of the "that girl" persona. Let's take a moment to debrief and discuss what's really important about health living.
I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
    xo

My god I wish i was as grounded as you are when I was 28 - especially living in LA I imagine the aesthetic pressure is immense. I was in London and the pressure to be all the things is insane - exhaustion is worn as a badge of honour and if you're not so overwhelmed by having a side hustle on top of a job that demands 16 hours a day plus a thriving social life plus hobbies, plus exercise and eating aesthetically healthy food, plus dating, plus plus plus - you feel you're not doing enough and failing. Quite frankly, with a bit of hindsight it's quite obvious we're actually the only ones putting that pressure on ourselves. I don't think anyone is really telling you outright 'you must be this', it's more us seeing someone else doing something we percieve as 'better' and regard as aspirational and feeling like we should be doing that also or we're not enough, and then blaming externally when it's our own choice to try and flog ourselves to be something else. It's taken me quite a while and a year in bed from an injury to have these things brought into perspective and remove myself from the toxic side of 'aspiration'. Now at 37 I don't give a damn - i can still be inspired by what others are doing, but inspired in a way that fuels me positively, not makes me feel rotten about myself. I wish i'd seen this video when I was 30 I could have saved myself a spectacular burnout.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful, thoughtful comment. 🤍 I can imagine being a Londoner comes with a lot of social expectations. It’s so freeing to not give a damn… and just be unapologetically ourselves. :)
And being 37 years young sounds like a lovely age. Wishing you many more decades of raw authenticity to come! xo

YES!! 👏👏👏 I love this. Watching this old video back two years later, I see how much further I’ve come in terms of letting go of all the chatter. Life is too short! Thanks for sharing your wisdom, Debra 🤍

I totally get what you saying, I don't follow tick toc trends. I like to hear your research and science behind what you do. I want to be you when I finally grow up. Your so sane and sensible about your choices. You have a lot of choices, so like a buffet, I pick and choose what I feel is right for me at this time in my life. Oh btw I'!m 80 y/o
