  • Ever wondered if you can make your own things instead of buying them from a store or the internet? Well, I introduce to you CAD and 3D printing. Watch the video to find out why they are so useful together!
    Amazon affiliate links for anyone who wants to get started in 3D printing or wants to upgrade their Ender 3:
    1. Ender 3 pro: amzn.to/3Qgwxml
    2. Ender 3: amzn.to/3OBwrV3
    For the tinkerers!
    1. PEI Magnetic Bed (great adhesion when printing, easily removable print when finished printing)
    amzn.to/47ahSix
    2. Bi-metal Heat Break (prevents clogs from heat creep, increases print speed, for me up to 2x speed 100 mm/s reliably, 3x speed with boron nitride paste, higher print quality)
    amzn.to/3DzEFqo
    3. Boron Nitride Paste (pairs well with the Bi-metal heat break, but heat break is not required, increases heat conductivity for parts like the nozzle, heatsink, thermistor, heat block, and pretty much anything that needs good heat transfer)
    amzn.to/3Qw5682
    4. Metal extruder and Capricorn Tubing (for easier and reliable filament movement into the hot end)

    Love the video, keep up the good work! One question: How do you stop parts from warping when printing at the edge of the print bed? I have some problems printing bigger parts.

    • @TheTinkeringTechie
      @TheTinkeringTechie  Рік тому

      From my experience, it seems that prints warp at the edge due to that part of the bed being at a lower temperature. You can either simply turn up the bed temperature for large prints (5-10 degrees Celsius), or "preheat" the bed at normal temps for a few minutes before pressing print to make sure every part of the bed is hot. I usually had that issue with buildtak or glass beds, then I finally tested PEI, the one in the video, and it worked wonders! (PEI affiliate link in desc. if you want to take a look). Seems like the PEI sheet is really good at conducting heat, as it is mostly metal. Glass takes a long time to heat up, and buildtak is somewhere in the middle. Hope this helps!

    Actually totally legal to 3d print a gun. Only stipulation is that you must embed a metal component within it somewhere. The only reason for that law is so that it is still able to set off metal detectors. Great video also, really enjoyed the actual writing and the comedic touches, keep it up, earned my sub.

      Just to add a little more to that for those who may not know: Provided you aren't a felon or otherwise barred from owning/purchasing a firearm, then yeah, you're entitled to build your own firearms (3d printed or otherwise). Of course, you still have to follow any laws applicable to you regarding possession/storage/transportation/etc which would also apply to any other firearm that falls under the classification of the built firearm in question. Also important to understand is that you may not legally sell or transfer that firearm to another party unless it has been serialized (pretty sure that applies at the federal level, but if that's state by state, feel free to correct me).

    • @TisMeGumby
      @TisMeGumby Рік тому +1

      @@aaronjones3181 Thank you very much for adding to that, that is all absolutely necessary information to know before attempting anything like that. I do believe that you are correct with the serialization being at the federal level. Also I believe that the distribution of .stl files of firearms is considered whatever that would be (Selling a non-serialized firearm). So might even be pretty difficult obtaining a printable file in the first place, unless you're designing it yourself, which is incredibly dangerous, but I think that can go without saying. I think I saw that a while back so it could be different now, but definitely lots of research needs to be done before attempting something like that.

  • @logicalfundy
    @logicalfundy Рік тому

    As far as functional goes - I've been using 3D printing for organization, using Gridfinity, 3D printed drawers, I've made a stand for vacuum cleaner accessories, my bathroom has a sink with a strange lip thing so I made some shelves with one leg longer than the others for that, I've made a belt holster to hold things I use at work (that took many iterations to get right). You can definitely do a lot with 3D printing. I've seen some people take functional printing even further with bolts, nuts, and other various hardware. It's also great for tabletop games, which often use plastic pieces.

    • @TheTinkeringTechie
      @TheTinkeringTechie  Рік тому

      Oh yeah, 3D printing is great! It can be a hobby or a tool, or both! 3D printing does have a stigma in that it only prints weak objects, but from how things have developed, my ender 3 pro with a bi-metal heat break can print polycarbonate, a very strong material. PLA is pretty strong in its own right.

    Does your Ender 3 with upgrades beat a Neptune 3 Pro or Neptune 4?...which should I buy as the first printer? or maybe Sovol?

    • @TheTinkeringTechie
      @TheTinkeringTechie  Рік тому +1

      Looking at this Amazon page: amzn.to/43UDuMU (affiliate link), it actually seems like the Neptune 3 pro printer is a beast, for $199 due to a sale. Reading closely, it DOES actually have a PEI bed, which is a GREAT bed type, and is also magnetic. It has a dual gear direct drive extruder, which means that the extruder is right above where the filament melts, meaning it will be more precise when retracting/pulling and extruding the filament (right amount of filament coming out). Dual gear also means it is stronger in pulling the filament. Also has a dual lead screw drive, meaning both sides of the printer have a screw to lift up where the filament comes out when needing to go higher in the print, making it very stable, and can't sag on one side. Finally, auto bed leveling which is very nice. My ender 3 pro with upgrades actually is around $300, but I enjoyed the "fixer upper experience". If I remember correctly, the Neptune series was more expensive, so I didn't buy them. Now I am very tempted to buy a Neptune 3 pro. Some reviews say it is a great first printer for beginners, and other say it isn't. It may depend on the person using it (as with anything), but from my perspective, it already has amazing upgrades and would work well out of the box, all for $199. Hope this helps!

    Nice video! I hate my ender 3 with a passion especially after using anycubic printers. My ender 3 has issues everytime I print with it, and it has gotten me so annoyed. Yes, I like tinkering, but I want to be able to use my printer lol. I ordered an elegoo neptune 4, as it is the cheapest printer with klipper that seems pretty good, and from previous reviews about elegoo, its out of box experience should be much better than what I had with my ender.

    • @TheTinkeringTechie
      @TheTinkeringTechie  Рік тому

      Thank you for stopping by! I must've just been lucky with my Ender 3 pro. I did see reviews saying that the Ender 3 is not very beginner friendly, but the pro version is, which is why I got it. It started having issues a couple months in, and that is when I decided to fix it, and ended up upgrading it to where it performs tremendously. Took a lot of trial and error tho. But I agree, Creality ender 3s are for mega tinkerers. The more expensive printers are tools, and the cheaper ones are projects and tools.

I'll look into it. As for my Ender 3 pro, it was affordable for me, and got the job done. With the right upgrades however, I am able to print PLA at 150mm/s reliably (and allow me to print exotic filaments like polycarbonate) and am able to do 200 mm/s (max mechanical printer speed) but I am not sure exactly how long it can go for as I haven't tried it yet.

I am also a big movie person, so I like to incorporate story elements into my videos :D. Also, a story is just more engaging to most people, as I can see with this video as it is #1 on my channel.
