    I’ve noticed during my testing that you have to wait until the velocity is shown to take another shot for the garmin to pick it up. Maybe if your buddy waited until then, it might pick his up. Was firing just before the velocity was read while it was analyzing.

      Can definitely try that on the next match this weekend.

      100% this. It will not capture a new shot (yours or someone else's) while it is calculating MV from the most recent capture. I expect if Garmin was equal distance from (and that close to) both rifles, it would pick up whoever shot first.

    • @RichardCasto
      @RichardCasto 11 місяців тому +2

      Another comment. When it was picking up your friend's 308. I think you were just pretty far away from the optimal distance, so it might have been on the edge of picking up either of you reliably. A tiny aiming change of the Garmin might cause it to pick up your or his shots. You were also wondering about the 308 having a larger muzzle blast. The Garmin does not trigger based upon sounds/muzzle blast as with the Labradar. The Garmin is constantly scanning downrange for a projectile within it's view.This is why it doesn't trigger with lots of nearby shooters. It doesn't care or know how loud things are.

    I enjoyed the video, please take this feedback constructively -- the distance apart tests were kinda silly and poorly thought out. To be meaningful you'd have to have both fired at the exact same moment otherwise pretty much any chrono is going to record whichever shot it "sees" first, and then needs a few seconds before it will record a new shot. Labradar seems to want about 2 seconds between shots, the C1 about 3 seconds. I have taken my C1 to a range several times and it's not uncommon at all for it to pickup my shots and a couple shots of those in immediately adjacent firing lanes, so when at a busy public range I tend to enable the C1 right before I shoot and then quickly end the session as soon as I'm done, and then review and remove any shots from the session that seem out of place. IMHO the OG Labradar is "more capable" due to recording up to 5 distances, but the C1 is so packable/portable that it's "more useful" and "more reliable" so it's what I keep in my range bag.
    Kind regards, Conceal and Carry on!

      So I have run additional tests with people shooting at the same time and waiting even longer after me but it never picked up their shot. I intend to do a follow up video of this. In addition I ran mine on my rifle for an entire local match and didn’t have any issues either.
      I had one interesting circumstance where it “analyzed” a shot from a guy on the zero line next to me but didn’t actually log it if that makes sense.

    • @SplashOfOrange
      @SplashOfOrange 7 місяців тому +1

      @@Covertnoob5yes, more common than ghost readings is to see my C1 register a shot from a neighboring lane and then rightly discard the reading, but based on timing this means it's also occupied and wouldn't log even my own shot during that processing window. So it does a decent job filtering out adjacent shooters, it's just not 100%. As you observed, the C1 typically has a field of view a good bit wider, and narrower, than the recommended 5-15" which is both a pro and a con depending on the range and setup. On the narrow side, for example, many C1 users will mount it directly to their rifle with maybe just a 1" barrel offset, if that, and it still reliably picks up their shots. It's a brilliant little device for sure, but there's no magic or secret sauce... it will generally detect and record the first shot it sees within its detection cone and velocity parameters and then 2-3 seconds later, when it shows the velocity, be ready for the next shot. For example I shot some 2100fps +p loads while the C1 was set to 600-1700 fps range and it rightly saw but discarded those shots as outside of the intended parameters. This certainly helps discard some ghost readings, but it's trickier when both you and that nearby adjacent shooter are shooting both within the cone and within the velocity spec.

    For those without ARCA rails and use Picatinny rails with Atlas bipods try ordering the $20 “Fantaseal” Picatinny Rail Holder. You can mount to the rail and still mount your Picatinny rail bipod on the adapter as well.

      Still kicks it out. At some point I’ll do an update video but I’ve let countless shooters use it and been next to guys at multiple matches and somehow it knows which shots are mine or which it’s supposed to register regardless of timing of the secondary shots.

    Garmin left off one important feature: The ability of the Garmin to take multiple readings as the projectile traverses down range: Labradar can give you 5 velocity readings as your bullet moves. This is ability of multiple velocity readings is very important in developing the Ballistic Coefficient of your bullet. Garmin cannot do that. There is more to ballistics and trajectory prediction than just muzzle velocity.

    • @Covertnoob5
      @Covertnoob5  8 місяців тому +1

      Understood but even the Labradar BC’s are often wrong and ultimately a good guess. Box BC’s especially quality bullets like Bergers or Atips are a good enough starting point that when you true at distance you’ll figure out if the BC is good or not.
      If you don’t true at distance you got bigger problems than if the Garmin or LR is better.

      @@Covertnoob5 I would disagree, I do a lot of competition shooting where we need to pass a thing called chrono/power factor, and I have a cheap Caldwell, chronograph where I tested it via at 5 yards (same distance as a traditional chrono at USPSA matches), and when I set the same distance for the Labradar, there were times it was dead on for V1, and times there it differed by 3-5 FPS. It wasn't by much.
      So yeah I loved that feature on the labradar because it does that. For this information you can google "USPSA chrono procedure".

      The Garmin does some things I don’t fully understand but it’s really smart. This past weekend at a match we had a zero period before the match started. My buddy, shooting 6.5 at 2720ish used my Garmin. As he’s picking up brass, the guy next to him also shooting 6.5 but at 2780 fires off a couple. Garmin seems to initially detect the shot as it went to the “analyzing shot” screen but then funny enough kicked it out. It didn’t accept it. She registered shot count for my buddy remained at 3 and his numbers didn’t change. Cool stuff for sure.

    Are you able to import the velocity data from the Garmin in a format that Quikload or GRT can use for load development and OBT like LabRadar?

    Nice video except for the craziness at the range and you did mention that . Like to see you show the on off controls on it and how you control it without a phone or computer. One Q, why didn't you delete his shots of you friends so we could see your total SD on what you shot, Is your compensator on your rifle deflecting backwards, I did see a video where they mounted it above the rifle, work excellent. Have seen many putting the unit just under the barrel too.
    Thx for the info. 👍👍👍 Yes, we don't need music , screws up the sound, I have a radio.
