The 6 transcriptions presented here are of, as always, the best side of Schubert - the Lieder. Around the time of his death, Schubert was a relatively obscure figure, although he had formed a small Schubertian society around him, compared the great Beethoven of his time, he was nothing but a speck of life in the world of music. Liszt did much to promote his music, such as these transcriptions. These are very clever transcriptions, taking the original lied and making a piece with much more excitement and virtuosity in it. Here 3 pianists collectively are performing this set.
