- Hey Knights! Today we dive into the depths of The Meg (2018) for the very first time. Join us on this exhilarating journey as we share our genuine reactions to the colossal shark adventure that has captivated audiences around the world. This film is filled with underwater suspense, jaw-dropping moments, and massive creature encounters that made it one of the wildest shark movies we've watched all year!
What is worse than a Great White shark? That's right a Megalodon that's trying to figure out where it fits in the food chain. Something tells us we are not gonna like the answer! In this thrilling film, we'll witness the discovery of the ancient megalodon, a prehistoric predator thought to be extinct. As we navigate the high-stakes mission to confront this monstrous creature we'll be adding our usual input on some of the films many aspects!
We hope you enjoy our reactions and commentary as we delve into the film's impact on the monster movie genre, its place in the world of aquatic thrills, and the technological achievements that make The Meg an absolute blast. After watching films like Jaws or Deep Blue Sea this one has it's own place in the genre.
Thank you guys so much for watching this with us!

Could you guys do the Sharknado movies reaction please and thank you if you guys do it.
I ALMOST died #LMFAO when the #Sprite that I was drinking suddenly shot out of my nose at time stamp: 30:06 when y'all straight up said, "OOOOHH, he be munchin".
The Shallows is the only other good shark film that I recommend next
please watch Tremor next!
Try a film called “Bait” if you want shark meets natural disaster
If a film can be entertaining, it's done its job, and The Meg certainly qualifies.
Agreed, it was fun!
Darn right.
This is tripe, just dreadful
@@Evilcsharper6474If you don't like it, don't watch it.🤡
@@Evilcsharper6474
Either your hypocrite for watching or you literally clicked on the vid to complain, either way just is horrible of you.
You couldn't have said it better. it's a fun popcorn flick, super entertaining, fun, and engaging...sharknado should be the last of this shark movie binge😂
Oh my god don’t 😂 You can tell by my face how excited I am about that idea
@@OfficialMediaKnights Cinematic masterpiece 🤣
I like how this movie is at least somewhat realistic and always tries to give an explanation even if it isn’t the best one
This is a guilty pleasure movie for me. It's silly and fun, but not stupid.
Another just plain fun and entertaining summer action movie!
Yesss!! Love those and this one hit just right!!
You know it's a good night when you watching UA-cam and you get a notification that these guys make a new vid
Ahh man! That warms our hearts 😄
People never notice that the name of the little dog here is also the name of the dog in Jaws the guy was playing fetch with and got eaten at the beach. another little jaws Easter egg 😆
I caught that when I saw the movie in theaters
Dog here was called pippen
The dog in Jaws was called Pippet ,but there is definitely a reference
Yeah all the Jaws references... although some are a bit different...but still...love them. So great. 👍
also, the one kid has the same hat as the mom in jaws.
and the dog Pippen was actually in the book. it had belonged to his ex wife and ended up in the same scenario as here. only there his ex was a real POS, and she had gone diving in a clear tube like the one seen here in order to get the shark on film so she could make money off of it. Pippen was the sole survivor.
Fun Fact: Jason Statham did most his own swimming (they used a double for the really hazardous stuff). He represented England in the 1990 Commonwealth Games for diving. At one point he was ranked 12 in the world for platform diving.
This guy is like a Renaissance man. Quite the athlete
Based on the novel of the same name by Steve Alten. It took them 20 years to make this movie happen. A lot of directors Guillermo Del Toro, Eli Roth, and Jan De Bont, were considered for making the project. It made $530 million dollars against a $178 million dollar budget.
Whoaaa what a turnout!! Incredible how so many amazing directors were considered for this! It was such a fun ride, we thoroughly enjoyed this movie!
And bearing almost zero resemblance to the book at all whatsoever. Fun in it's own right, however.
i didn't know Del Toro was apart of this movie
the closest it had gotten to getting made prior to this ended up getting axed because of deep blue sea bombing.
Aree singing the Jurassic Park theme song is hilarious 😆
Yes, I love that theme song too!!
i'm glad you guys watched meg! the meg 2 the trench is on its way so i hope you guys do the reaction of it too when it comes out
Most likely! We’ll keep an eye out for it 😃
The references from ‘JAWS’ are brilliant, but watching this with you the 2nd time for myself, I noticed the Bride on the yacht near the beach called her dog ‘Pippin’ same as the black Labrador on the beach in ‘Jaws’ . Thank you for this.
I absolutely love this movie, I hope you enjoyed this movie as much as I did
We had a blast!
You guys should check out Crawl for another good horror creature feature!
Crocodiles + lots of flooding + stranded deep in storm territory = a great time, has some great suspenseful moments and is criminally underrated for these animal-kinda horror flicks
!
If Toshi had enough time to switch on the lights sit down and yell for 3 seconds before the megladon got there, then Toshi had more than enough time to climb up into the sub. 😂 rip.
You guys are awesome!
Bring on ALL of the Creature Feature reactions. 😄
Haha aw thank you, you are awesome!! We are definitely loving our creature features and will be sharing more very soon!!
I think "The Shallows" was a really good scary as hell shark movie. "47 Meters Down" is another good one. Definitely check those out for next years summer shark movies. Great reaction, I liked this movie.
The reference to Florida drivers had me on the floor 🤣 I lived there for 5 years. It's sooo accurate ❤ Great video!
Hahaha I need to find a “I survived I-95” hoodie
I laughed too! I have family in Florida. Every time I go, my dad always offers to drive to sacrifice for us. 😂
I absolutely love ridiculous monster movies (as well as disaster movies), it’s my guilty pleasure. shark movies are a fav of mine, i love sharks, they’re beautiful creatures. i wrote a college paper about the “jaws effect” and how sensationalizing random shark attacks and killer shark movies led to millions of shark deaths over the years, & how people are more dangerous to them than they are to us. still, as long as people understand it’s fiction, it’s such a fun & entertaining sub genre of films 😁😁
True, I watched Jaws when I was a kid. It was the beginning of my obsession with sharks. I'm a marine scientist now😂 and trust me many of us got inspired by Jaws
Ohmygod me too😂 all those ridiculous disaster b-movies make me so happy, if you can imagine it, I've seen it (drought, ice age, flood, the sun, crocodiles, snakes, etc). I know they're awful movies objectively but they're so much fun to watch
Saturday night sorted. You guys are killing it with these reactions. X
Haha aw that's so great to hear!! Have the best Saturday night and we hope you enjoy!! Thanks for the support!
This was insane I love Sharks and now we have the Mega Shark the Megalodon, has it's funny moments with some cool deaths.
It was great watching this movie with you! Thank you!!
Did anyone else get the ‘Pippin’ reference with the dog? That was the name of the dog that got eaten by the shark in the first jaws film lol 😂
Saw a video where Rainn Wilson talked about sitting next to a guy on a plane watching the office for the entire flight, which he acted in and is most well known for. Rainn said he never got into it and the guy defended it, then he took off his face mask slowly and talked to him. It took almost a minute for the realization to sink in then the guys mind was blown. As a big fan of the office, with some small reservations, I thought it was funny. It's great Rainn Wilson is in this, Super, and Star Trek: Discovery. Hope to see him in more things.
Whaaat, that is such a great story haha!! Imagine sitting next to an actor that's in your favorite show and getting to tell them why you love it! It was probably a good thing the guy didn't know it was him 😂😂
A split second to make a decision, and a lifetime to tear it apart
Please do sharknado it is a rabbit hole. I don't think it was ever supposed to be what it became. It's something I think u should watch.
Sharknado is brilliant because of how ridiculous it became.
I understand completely why you having a good time 😀 everything about Sharks is awesome
Haha sharks are awesome, but a megalodon?? Even better!!
@@OfficialMediaKnights 💪💪💪
I LOVE that you two watch the movies in order, unintended as it was. This way you get to see the evolution of cinema making! I think films can be more enjoyable when watches in this way! I've has a great time on this journey with you!
You don’t notice but in the beginning before the ship blow you can see the shark
Only just found you guys but I love you already you have my sense of humour.... First thing i thought was the jurassic park theme too 🤣 going to check out your others after this
The launch of the glider reminded me of the launch of Thunderbird 4. 🙂
Pink Venom has a few references to other music icons as well, if you look hard enough -
Kick in the door, waving the coco - reference to Notorious BIG
One by one, two by two - Rihanna
Look what you made us do - Taylor Swift
Maybe more, but those are the ones I'm aware of 😊
The mv videos in this video are all the ones I would recommend for first time listeners, so i think youve hit the nail on the head
Favorite shark movie. Second is sharknado
Love this 1 and meg2 so good and because of jason lol one my favourite actors
The little yorkie named Pippin is actually a reference to Jaws from the beach scene with the black lab who was also named Pippin.
You guys are in the sky
How could you
❤❤❤❤❤❤😅that's really good bro
I know I'm a little behind on catching up with your guys's videos but I love pointing this kind of stuff out not a lot of people notice it but when that submarine imploded in the beginning on the right side you can actually see the Megalodon getting blown up and turning into chunks which is cool cuz Jonas pointed it out later
In the book Stathams character swims into the sharks mouth and rips its heart out with his bare hands, also the book is a 5 volume series.
This was AMAZING in the theater!! ❤️🎬👍
Love this Movie❤ Statham Rose Megalodon what more do you need❤ Can't wait to watch the Meg 2...
You guys have to do the sharknado series if not for the ridiculousness of them. Cause you think it can't get any crazier but it keeps saying hold my beer😂.
This was such a fun one! I always worry about the dog. 😅
Excited to see the sequel tomorrow!
Pippin was also the name of the dog on the beach with Alex Kitner - excellent callback.
Actually it was Pipit but close enough. I hated that part of the movie. I did read, however that Spielberg offered an alternate idea of what happened. He was getting feedback from people complaining about that segment and he responded by saying that maybe, just maybe, Pipit didn’t belong to the guy throwing the stick. Maybe he was a neighbors dog who just decided he was tired of chasing the stick and went home. Pipit wasn’t, perhaps, eaten by the shark at all. I can live with that!
You guys should definitely check out the shallows. It’s a different take on a shark movie. I love it.
Yes sharknado!!!!!
If you want to keep the deep sea theme going, I recommend 'The Abyss'(1989). James Cameron
Ohhh!! I’ve had that one on my list for years! Thank you for reminding me! That’s an excellent suggestion 😃
I second, third and fourth this motion !
I've recently stumble onto you guys and I love the vibes here it's great relaxation kicking back with you guys
25:57 Yall missed the Dory reference.. :D
Going deep into the ocean scares me the same way climbing mountains does, when you make it to the top or bottom you just halfway there...
Thalassaphobia be like 😱😱 but this also (with in reason) shows me how beautiful the world can be when humans don't touch it ❤❤
Don't forget The Shallows movie and the 90's Movie Octalus aka Dead Rising. A really underestimated fish monster movie. Funny and brutal. Came out a few month after Camerons Titanic and was a complete box office bomb and it was so not deserved, cause it's kinda connected to the Skull Island idea and directed by Stephen Summers.
Also Cliff Curtis is in this, playing Mac in his movie.
You guys are the best keep doing this ❤
Thank you so much! That means a lot to us ❤️
So all this time a Megalodon is just lurking here near our country, the Philippines 😅 kidding aside I love watching your reactions please can you do a reaction about the movie "Knowing" starring Nicolas Cage. Love and support to the both of you guys from Pangasinan, Philippines ❤
Great reaction. A fun movie. And starring Jason Statham as... Jason Statham. 😂
Steve Alten is an awesome author , he wrote' Dominion- The Mayan Trilogy',a great science fiction series . I hope someday a good director brings them to the screen.🤞
good thing in these films, pippin stays with the immunity buff
I loved this movie I love the jaws references too the dog in the first jaws was called pippin and he was eaten so I’m called this dog survived and I’m so called you guys picked up on the subtle references I loved Jason statham and the lady that plays Suyin
Pretty sure Pippin was the name of the dog that dies on the beach in jaws too lmao
Aria and Densie I got an interesting story to tell you The part where they're filming the boat scene thin the actress ruby rose she almost drowned during the sad because her feet were And drowned by a bunch of water and the people had to stop for a moment to save her but she's okay but it really did happen during filming this movie !!!
Love the movie. Its Statham ofcourse. Love the reaction..
Loved the FL shade comment 😉👍🏻
I'm so happy they saved Pippin as well, as there are so many movies that they kill the dog. I want a Pippin now 🙂
Hiiii greetings from Argentina👋🏻😸❤️🇦🇷✨️
Sending love all the way to Argentina! ❤️
@@OfficialMediaKnights Thank you so much, In Argentina they love you guys a lot😸🫶🏻💙🇦🇷✨️
Pippin is the real hero😂💜
you missed a huge jaws reference. Pippin the dog. The dog in Jaws that gets eaten by the shark at the same time the little boy got eaten. They named the little dog in this the same. unfortunately it survived.....
Just an okay movie, saved by the performance and charm of that little girl🙂
Btw, if you're considering Sharknado, I'd watch the hell out of that.
The first time I watched the first in the series, I absolutely hated it, but when I gave it another go, I laughed my a$$ off again and again🙂
And they just keep making them more absurd, more insane, more ridiculous and also more funny😂
you need to watch sharktopus vs pteracuda
Jason Statham and y'alls reaction, made the cheese melt away from the movie and became enjoyable. 😊
Aww man! That means the world to us. Thank you! 😃
#NiceVideos
Love From Germany / Heidelberg
🖤❤️💛
The Shallow is also a really good shark movie!
I agree extra points for the movie for keeping the dog alive as well.
Oh definitely, brownie points for that!! The doggos must live!!
@@OfficialMediaKnights agreed yes they really do
Your faces when the second one came up, and yes, there is Always a bigger fish !
( sorry, had to )
Can this be considered a "B Movie" when it costs SO much money? Not that there's anything wrong with being a B movie. But don't get me wrong, this movie is TONS of fun. And features one of my favorite actors, Cliff Curtis. He's one of those guys who shows up everywhere and is ALWAYS good. Great choice, guys. Thanks!
I myself was asking the same question. Technically no because of it's budget but it definitely gives off that vibe. Just a fun popcorn flick!
Great reaction and really enjoying your channel! If you haven't seen them, you should react to all of the Godzilla/Kong movies.
Now that it's summer again and Shark Week just happened you guys should watch The Shallows with Blake Lively, I personally found it to be a rally good flick.
I just have to say this...when something wrongly major happens in the world it's always in North America or Asia 😂😂😂 glad I'm from Portugal in Europe!
Nothing spurs a rescue effort like sheer pettiness to prove your ex wrong lmao
Eeeexactly! 😂
Great film reaction!! Such a fun packed entertaining flick! You guys should definitely check out Deep Rising. A cosmic Lovecraftian horror sea film im sure you both will love so highly recommend
I wish they showed the meg 2 the trench as well as deep blue sea 2 and 3
Fun fact for this movie, even if the megalodon swallows you hole you're as good as dead because it's stomach will immediately digest as quick as possible
46:30 "and you guys are in the sky" 🤣🤣 everyone thought that!!!
47:12 her face jaksjs😂
so meg 2, its wild :D
25:55 I understood that reference.
I just watched Salem's Lot (the original one) and I recommend you guys to check it out. The 80s had some truly atmospheric horror gems.
cool reac, but you entionned watching sharknado? which one of the 6i think moovies? lmao
If you have a chance i recommend reading the book that the movie is based on Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror, it's a good read. I was in high school when I read it and waited 10 years for a movie to be made and I wasn't disappointed.
Do Jaws 3 and Jaws the Revenge. I like Jaws 4 because it has Micheal Caine, my favorite actor, from back in the day. 😊
our fav shark people
Shark Gang ❤️
❤️🙏
I LOVE your reactions ! There is a movie that came out soon after Jaws called ORCA. and Lake Placid. both worth watching :)
Heard a bit about Orca! We're definitely game to watch out!
@@OfficialMediaKnights Orca rules! But it has a vastly different tone to it than your average shark attack movie. It actually gets pretty emotional and somber. WELL worth checking out!!
as Qui Qon Jinn once said there's always a bigger fish
also Pippin fool of a took
You'd best rid us of your stupidity by throwing yourself in next time.
Hi Ari and Denise I love your reaction to The Meg🦈 Can't wait to see your reaction to The Meg 2 someday🦈🦈🦈 !!! Hope your reaction to Transformers rise of beasts returns soon.🙏🏾
Thanks so much for the support, we really enjoyed this movie!!
@@OfficialMediaKnights I'm glad I got to see your reaction to it and yes I did really enjoy it like Jason versus the Meg was my favorite part and just wait till you see the second movie someday !! 🦈🦈🦈
Someone probably already told you this, but the dog in The Meg, is a callback to the lab who was eaten in JAWS. 😀 ❤️🎬👍
Love your reactions you guys💙💚💛🐾 I actually love this movie especially since it is a more current movie with a Megalodon. I do wish it was more like the book (which, I haven't read yet but I know it's a lot more serious).
If you guys want to watch a good shark movie where it's a calamity movie with sharks, "Bait (2012)" is a good pick. You guys should also watch some Crocodilian movies too.
Bait is a really cool movie. And yeah, the Meg series of books is very different and ALL of them are damn good reads.
You missed a key Jaws reference. The dog’s name is the same, Pippen.
17:20 I just saved this up cuz that scene in the film was my fav:)
The dog inn this movie has the same name as the dog in Jaws. Another Jaws reference.
The dog in jaws and meg had the same name pippin
Megalodon lived in the Early Miocene epochs a time when mammals started to rule the Earth after the extinction of the dinosaurs. This predator lived around 26 million years ago all the way to the Early Pliocene. This animal ruled the oceans and hunted whales (where you saw it did to the whale family), giant squid, sea turtles, and other sharks. It was the apex predator of its time but it had competed against another predatory whale named Livyatan, and Brygmophyseter. It's the ancestor of the Great White Shark, but scientists differ on whether it would have more closely resembled a stockier version of the great white shark, the basking shark, or the sand tiger shark. But as water temperatures began to get cooler, the Ice Age began to change its habitat and the food became scares or for some unknown reason, around 3 million years ago the Megalodon fated into extinction. But some people believe this fish might be lurking somewhere out there in the oceans as part of the cryptozoology. But we don't know.
It was an okay movie but i had read the book and having that anticipation hurt my overall opinion of the film. The part that hurt the most was cutting the Tanaka family and substituting them with Suyin and her father. Two very different kinds of characters and Terry Tanaka was a very likable character for a female lead. I wonder why they changed so much
It's interesting to see Ruby Rose in this movie after seeing her in the first season of Batwoman as the title character. Batwoman in comics and other media is the cousin of Batman.
Oh yay! You did it! Can't wait to see your reaction to this. Diving in now.
P.S Jason Statham is my mother's big crush and she loves this movie! haha
Haha yesss we got around to it!! Thanks so much for your support, hope you enjoy our reaction!!
Also lolll your mom's crush is definitely valid, he is awesome!
@@OfficialMediaKnightsI just finished. Great reaction as always! I totally agree that it's a 'mac and cheese' kind of movie. It's not thought provoking or profound, but it has some great shots and is wildly entertaining. Sometimes, that's all I want from a film.
Good job guys! Loved the video! ❤
Exactly! Same here! Sometimes we just want some fun stuff happening on screen without a super deep explanation. We needed a more laidback film and this was a great time!
