Walking NYC : 7th Avenue from 57th Street to 14th Street (September 14, 2021)

  • I walk Manhattan's 7th Avenue from 57th Street, across the street from Carnegie Hall, to 14th Street. This street runs through popular areas such as Times Square, the Garment District, Macy's, Penn Station, and Chelsea. It has gotten busier, as tourism is returning to NYC, and as office workers commute to work.

Tears in my eyes, New York the most beautiful city on earth, loved walking through Rockefeller Ave, Times Square, SOHO and Central Park. I am from a third world country and hate it here, the 1 week in NY will be the best week of my life, also saw Philly, Boston and NJ, but nothing comes close to NY.

In Brazil is common people say, São Paulo is our NY. However, despite SP is an amazing city, it's impossible to compare with NY.

It's amazing: 1987, the area on the left side of Times square used to be surface parking lots and old decrepit low rise buildings in place of these high rises.

Aw, you didn't shout out Amy!
This is the first comment I'm leaving, I only actively started watching your videos recently and they give me a new appreciation for NYC. It was my home until pretty recently. spent my entire childhood and adolescence there, but growing up there you just feel like it's normal. It's like its own little country, and you don't wake up every day thinking "woah, I'm American", you are just too acclimated to that fact.
And though it is very much just mundane and ordinary and even quite dark and depressing and filthy lots of the time, it is also the capital of the world, a historical and legendary megalopolis, the most eminent cultural center of humanity in its entire history. Thank you for helping me realize some of what that means, thank you for walking me down places that I didn't fully appreciate when I was there myself. It is surreal. Keep up the great work!

Sigh... I just left there Tuesday. I stayed at the Sheraton you called out at the beginning. 10/10 would recommend. They treated me and my friends excellently. And shout out to the 810 diner best eggs and bacon in times square. I miss it already so much and can't wait to go back. Oh and by the way I could have used that tip about the Subway on Monday because that happened to me I wanted to go to One world trade and got on the right train but the wrong direction LOL

I'm feeling really nostalgic with this walk. We stayed at the hotel Wellington on 7th Ave, in 2005. Me , my partner & our daughter who was 6 yrs old. We visited as much as we could all the attractions. It was the best weekend I've ever experienced in my entire life. I took photos & loved looking at them. Then my partner changed after that year. Grew distant from both me & our daughter. He ended up having an affair 5 years later & being violent towards me. I left with my daughter & forgot the photo album. I have cried & felt so sad for losing the precious photos. I will always remember New York as the last place & time we were a happy family. So Thankyou for walking around. It makes me step back to a happier time & place ❤️👍from the Uk

The empty store at 4.10 used to be Carnegies Deli, which opened in 1937.
Check out the sandwiches they used to make , they were basically piles of sliced meat held together with a couple of slices of bread and a wooden skewer.
The place used to be a favourite with stand up comedians and actors ,the walls were covered in signed publicity shots .
This is the deli in Broadway Danny Rose ( Woody Allen movie ) where all the old comics are sitting around telling their stories.
There’s an entry in Wikipedia for the place.

0:26 thats a rare sight to see, the brown SUV with the convertible top on it. A Mercedes Gelandewagen, today more popularly known as the G Wagon haha. So it started life out as a custom made vehicle for the United Nations Peace corps in Africa or South America and like it just became a staple and then came stateside. AK loving your videos man, went for a walking tour of lower Manhattan through Chinatown for dinner/breakfast i know sounds strange, and then over to Little Italy and then Soho and then....Times Square to close out the night. Let me tell you i dont know why i waste my time driving in, transit you could just sit and relax. So cool. Take care Action Kid you're doing a great thing

Traffic is far less than I remember. I used to visit NYC several times a year from upstate. I brought my kids from the time they were very young and always felt safe, even on the subway. As the kids got older I would bring them down at Christmas time and we would do Radio City and I would let them shop as their Christmas gift. We loved it. My oldest daughter had decided she wanted to live there. That has since changed.
We stopped going a few years ago. A year or so after DeBlasio became mayor and his rhetoric started the city's slow decline (IMO). Haven't visited since 2014 or 2015 other than passing thru Penn Station when connecting to another train. We used to leave the station and grab lunch or a coffee from somewhere out on rhe street. Not anymore.
Taking a cruise from the city next June. In the past I would have gone down 2 or 3 days early. This time we are only staying the one night before the cruise and leaving immediately on Amtrak when the cruise ends. My daughters are now adults and none of us have any interest in staying there any longer than necessary.

The cart garage where the vendors get ready for the day isn’t the best place you ever see as it’s literally just a parking structure with a few extra drains. The spot they get isn’t the problem as that spot is usually eyeballed long ago and they don’t play kill the competition unless the person is new but whatever. The problem is the fees vendors pay for the cart itself as you pay for the license, the equipment, and the actual supplies. The thing is these guys can make a couple hundred a day in summer but it drops to half during the winter because no one wants to eat outside during the winter. These cart are just as liable as brick and mortar restaurants in terms of inspection. The bigger problem is that most of them are relatively new immigrants that come from everywhere but a lot of Spanish somehow get to New York from Latin America legally or not and many start food carts because it’s fast and cheap.

Over here in Scotland, a lot of places have them and the result is, that many City Centres are dying a death. Many empty shops now. But NYC seems to have a very vibrant city centre.

I agree with you about the epic scaffolding problem in NYC. Mainly due to lazy millionaire building owners who don't want to spend money on fixing the facades of The buildings. So they put up these hideous Green things all over The buildings, As if that's going to fix the problem. They should be held accountable for this . Or at least paint those ugly green scaffolds sliver or a nice vibrant color. Because they really do ruin the architect of These beautiful buildings and Businesses.

the only comedy present right now is how the gates family has divided itself around the clock and across the region.. it is hysterical as much as it is sad because they are struggling with self deception presently, and I have made no attempts to correct anyone's perception ... because, I require integrity and uprightness of character... these guys are more lunatic than anything platable.
