I’ve been living in Budapest for 4 years know, and according to my experience, here is the best public transportation in the Europe in a price/efficiency rate, public transport is rarely late (hello Berlin), during the day, according to my own experience again, usually it is a bit faster to get somewhere you need by using a public transport rather than a car within the city, so great job in that Budapest!
Definitely top 3 for me 😄
Rarely late... if there is no snow. 😂
Gyere Bécsbe…;) a legjobb ott kezdődik, ami lerak kb. mindenhol ház előtt. ;)
@@TheTysonkidd Igaz)
Hey! Nothing against my public transport system! (I am from Berlin)
Some years ago Budapest took the world record in the longest tram with the Siemens Combino
Then just to make sore Budapest doesn't lose this record, they ordered the CAF Urbos which is now the longest tram in the world
They will however lose this record in 2024, when Cologne is getting 60 metre long Alstom Citadis units
Still a while tho 😂
Excellent trams too 😀
Actually the combinos weren't the longest, as the CarGoTrams from Dresden have been slightly longer. Anyway they are still impressive.
Lol. 😆EXCELLENT !!! LOL.👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🎄🍾🥂💕💞
I love the open design and the focus on accessibility, it really benefits everyone. Great views of the tram out the window, and the Danube as well.
Thank you Juan 😊
I'd love to take trams & the ferry cruise on river Danube there !!! It's in my bucket list !!! 👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🎄🍾🥂💞

I really like the fact you always show the local language and alphabet of the place you are in before fading to English. It's interesting to see just how different place names are in reality versus what native English speakers call them. Great video as always!

great video. Glad to see trams getting featured as they're an important part of our transport systems. Never really fancied visiting Budapest but your informative video has changed my mind. Who wouldn't want to ride 100+ miles of tram lines for a fiver. Excellent.
Ah excellent! It's a truly beautiful city 🇭🇺
There are soo many tram lines here, and many have beautiful views, sightseeing in the same time. Or more socio-exploring on the lines going to more underdeveloped areas :)
Budapest is a lovely city - one of our favourites!
One of my favorite cities in the world 🌍💯☺️

Thanks! Hope we can continue to hold that status for a long time! :)
Thanks for this - an unusual video but really enjoyable. It's interesting to see the suburbs. I visited Budapest in 2018 and loved it. The public transportation system is excellent. My favourites were the tram line 2 and the iconic metro line 1.
You're welcome Craig! Line 2 is pretty cool isn't it 👍🏻😎
Great video, as always. If you are in Hungary, you should try the newly opened (end of 2021 november) Tram-Train between Szeged and the near city Vásárhely.
Next time I will, for sure 😄
Igaz. Gyönyörű a tram-train.
@@NonstopEurotrip Just a note for your info: when the Hungarians say "Vásárhely", they mean Hódmezővásárhely (the full name of the town, which is hardly ever used in oral speech). If you travel there, make sure to pay a visit ;-) to the local mayor, Péter Márki-Zay, who may become the next prime minister of the country.

Wow...that is definitely a long, long tram !
I love the fact that it's 💯% accessible.
In Melbourne, Australia, while there are many accessible new trams, not every tramstop is , which can make it harder to get around
Yes Heather, everything has to match up to make the accessibility work properly 👍🏻
the trams in Melbourne are painfully slow compared to this
@@shaunmckenzie5509
But at least there is decent coverage.
I currently live on the Gold Coast. One tram route only....and the amount of complaining people do when the "powers that be" wanna extend it ! It's crazy !
Budapest doesn't have any circular metro line, so the circular tram lines (Nr. 4/6 and 1) are very busy. That's why the cuty has the longest trams in the world (Siemens Combino Supra and CAF Urbos).
Absolutely yes 😊
You should check out Tram line 2 the next time you are in Budapest. It is really beautiful. It runs parallel the Danube and you get some great views riding it.
I've done it, I agree! 😃🇭🇺
That was brilliant. I wish we had a decent and cheap public transport system in Britain 😊
More trams required! 😀
Great video as always and today's Video was not only informative but also interesting and 174 km of tram tracks alone in Budapest.... Insane!!! And this tram is loaded with user friendly features and undoubtedly, I would love to live in city like this in the future.

A late evening In August this year I rode some parts of this line. From the Central Bus Station to a place near "Heroes Square" where I found my hostel One of the best places to spot tramways in Budapest is on the Buda-side where the Gellert Bridge connects ! Old school Ganz windling through the curves! But, my first tram-ride in Budapest was in July 1988 in a Ganz UV ! BUT ! I love the older rolling stock in both Budapest and in Prague ! Sturdy and very reliable !
And after Budapest I continued down to Romania and the coast of the Black Sea. I made a little video and "toilet check" of the CFR 2:nd class coach I was riding ..! ;-) Sorry! only in swedish.. ua-cam.com/video/lii2p-FBWbY/v-deo.html
Yes I agree, I spent ages riding the trams and exploring Budapest, old and new 😃
Hey, I hope that you didn't miss the linked Ganz ICS trams which were at line 4, 6 before Siemens Combinos. Line 6 final station at Móricz Zsigmond körtér was very moody at night where the tram hugged the building around while waiting its passengers.
From what I saw the city looks wonderful. Thanks a lot I really enjoyed the video.

Thanks for visiting 😊
As someone who travels with this every day I am still surprised that this is faster than Metro Line M1
Also, at 5:33 there is a small mistake, 1 isn't the longest tram-line in Budapest, it's only the 2nd one, the longest one is tram-line 41
English Wikipedia is wrong, sorry 😂
Such a Beautiful Tram ❤️❤️. I hope we can have this one day on Bogota.
Ooh hopefully 😃
In my youth, tram, bus and metro schedules were really simple. On line 4/6 on the Nagykörút it simply said “every 30 seconds” throughout the day …
small fact: Buda and Pest were different cities once, before a merger to Budapest took place in 1873. Buda is on the western bank of Danube; Pest on the eastern bank :)
I know 🥰
I’d love to go back to Budapest. Definitely one of the best holidays I’ve ever been on. The atmosphere is amazing and getting around is so effortless. Plus, the go karting at the hungaroring was dirt cheap, only £16! The fireworks were beautiful too.
Completely agree 🤗
As one of your newer Patrons I must say it's much better without the adverts! Excellent video as always - informative and interesting.
That's very kind of you Jon, and yes I agree about the ads 😂
Awesome video! I also have a little correction, the longest tram line in the city is the line 41. It's like 18.5 km's long but it's a tight race:D
Thank you 🙏🏻
What a fantastic system. While the modern cars look great, I much prefer the look of the old cars. Imagine the tram, the buses, and metro combined ~ what great transportation they provide. There can be no question that this works just great to improve society.
Yes, the massive up side of these trams is the accessibility 😁🇭🇺
3:25 line 1 has intervalls shorter than 6 minutes. I remember them coming every 2 minutes or more often during peak times. Same for combined lines 4 and 6 which run on Siemens Combino but underneath are already Siemens Avenio
Thank you ☺️
Kelenföld is actually the 3rd, busiest station, because every train that comes from or goes towards Bp. Déli passes trough it, moreover, it also recieves trains from Bp. Keleti, sometimes even from Bucharest.
Thanks for the info, maybe you should edit Wikipedia lol
Great video! Good to see urban trains featured in the channel. I hope to see more of this in the future ☺️
There will be, don't worry 😃
I live in Budapest, and I travelled this line in one time, but it's very good and really very long!
Absolutely yes 🤗
I saw this tram during my trip to Hungary. Didn't really pay attention though as I wasn't aware that it was the longest in the world. I've only taken Tram #2 which was sort of a vintage design
Line 2 has great views! 😃
That vintage design was extremely futuristic in the seventies! However, the limitations of socialist industry meant a lot of tradeoffs. Since that time they have underwent serious refurbishment/modernization but some of the shortcomings (and the lack of step-free entry) are still there.
Before the extension, the line ran to "közvágóhíd H" (H stands for 'hév' suburba raillway in english) then it was extended around 2015-17 to "etele út, fehèrvári út" and took the role of bus line 103 which ran the exact same rout as tram line 1 today between "Népliget" and "Kelenföld vasútállomás" (trainstation). Later it was extended to "kelenföld"
Interesting fact: tram line 60 is a chogwheel railway
Another interesting fact: budapest has a total of 35 different tram lines today
I know a lot about budapest's trams and network because I'm a huge fan of it plus I live here and travell on the network daily
(Some more information, if you need: hu.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_villamosvonal-h%C3%A1l%C3%B3zata )
Very interesting, thank you ☺️
I rode one of these when my Father and I visited Budapest in 2019. Fantastic vehicles. They also run on the 4 and 6 routes which are the busiest tram routes in the world.
Excellent 👍🏻🎅
On tram lines 4-6 you'll find Siemens Combinos. Those are pretty long too but the CAF Urbos on line 1 is longer by 2 meters. (Btw sometimes Siemens Combinos are circulating on line 1 as well)
A great idea add tram lines also. Very good video and good report of the whole trip- Thank you !!
Good you enjoyed it Josep 😃
Fantastic - I will have to ride the full line the next time I am in Budapest !!
Absolutely 🤗
@@NonstopEurotrip Have you tried line 52? That's a whole different experience.
@@comandanteej Possibly, I tried a lot 😂
@@NonstopEurotrip Cool :) . Nr. 52 is the village line. It starts off like an interurban line but then turns into some suburbs and continues on a single-track first among block houses but then slowly creeps along single-floor detached houses. The other one is the southern section of 41, that one used to be really rural (but nowadays the area is getting developed :( )
Fun to watch this video, 'cause Im Hungarian, and I use this tram every day
Excellent 😌👍🏻
just got back from there myself
was trying really hard to avoid the cafs and get in mileage on the ganz and tatra cars. tracked down the uv one night on light tram duties. ahh thats a tram.
Ah good times 😁
7:17 If they have indicators, that means they are considered "road vehicles" since they must be sharing the same lane as other road vehicles (cars/buses)... at some point. So they must have indicators like any other road vehicle!
A lot of modern trams do not, since they are completely separate from the road. Great video! :)
It is very rare that the tram line shares the lane with other vehicles, especially the main lines, like the No.1. (there are a few lines thorugh historic parts of the city, where the streets are simply too narrow for a separate lane, but that is an exception and it's not that line.) But it often turns from one street to another, crossing the lanes (like it happens at 7:17). That's when the indicator needs, like for any other vehicle when turning.
They can be on the road, but not sharing a lane with other vehicles, like pretty much all of this route, except the crossings 😚
I should add that on some of the lines turn lanes at traffic lights sometimes share the lane with the trams. Also, emergency vehicles often use the tram lane, even if it's physically separated from the other lanes (with concrete bumps).
@@NonstopEurotrip Line 1 is constructed from the 80s up to LRT standards (more-or-less), but many lines on the network still share the right-of-way with ordinary road traffic. Recently many such tracks got separated or converted to public-transport-only lanes, however there are still a lot where you can drive on the tramtracks.
So many Eureopean cities have excellent transport systems which make me envious because of the sad state of affairs in many parts of the UK.
We do need more trams 👍🏻
but you have teleports in red phone booths
throughly enjoyed this video, i have been on this tram in july 2019, few months before covid and lock downs. As mentioned these trams are very comfortable and convenient and during rush hour they do get packed. The end of the video where the train comes to the last stop, i remember there was a Mazda dealer across the road, saw the then new MX5 Miata in close up and sat on it.

You may find it interesting, that the CAF Urbos 3 is also run in Sydney, Australia, on the L1 tram line, and in Newcastle, Australia, which is only 169km north of Sydney, and served by heavy rail from Sydney. Will you do the 67km long Kuttsram in Belgium, on the Flanders Coast?

It's not that surprising that it has a higher average speed than Metro Line 1, that's basically a tram line below the surface. The stops are really close to each other, it even uses an overhead wire instead of a 3rd rail. The trains are based on the Ganz CSMG trams.
Yeah 😂👍🏻
Thanks for subtitles on your video because deaf people need them
You're welcome John 🙏🏻
Thank you, nonstop eurotrip! I like trams too. Your video is very informative. We are immediately immersed in it. The 21 st century trams are very comfortable. In fact, as I always say, for a tram, the ideal is to do a "cab ride", you know a video where the driver generally films. But I know you don't have the right. Also, if one day, with the permission of the authorities, you can do a "cab ride" of a train, I would be delighted and you would have many more subscribers than that. I really like it all. Thank you very much.
I wish I could get a cab ride it would really enhance the videos! Glad you enjoyed this video Louis, it's doing quite well! 🚋
Regarding the comfort, these tramcars are not that good in my opinion.
- The doors are too far apart and it is difficult to get out of the inside of the tram
- The seats are very narrow, two stranges are not likely to sit besides each other on the twin-seats
- There is a lot of dead room over the bogies
- The ride is rather bumpy in the sections that have the wheel under them
The Siemens Combinos (which are 2m shorter and also circulate on line 1 at least over the weekend) are much better in all of these parameters
Actually there are cab ride videos on line1, eg. ua-cam.com/video/no2_EGAtf2Q/v-deo.html
Enjoyed it. Was in Buda

Longest, as in the longest single tram 😚

One thing worth mentioning about tram line 41 is that not only is it the longest tram line in Budapest but also one of the most scenic lines next to tram line 2. There are two sections that are especially pleasant. One section runs alongside the River Danube and the other is a very calm residential area near the border of districts 11 and 22. One station called Fülőke utca is especially serene. If you come to Budapest again definitely try it out.
True yes, I have done this line too 😃
@@NonstopEurotrip Is there a video about it? If not then I'll be waiting. 🙂
4:21-For anybody visiting from abroad (North Americans in particular), validating a paper ticket (and tapping a RFID payment card onto a reader) is a must, as Budapest (like many European cities) most likely has fare enforcement officers, who board a train to check if fares have been paid; if they've not been paid, a passenger _will_ be fined a lot of money.
I've never seen one in my 6 trips there, but I'm sure they exist!

There are 17 long CAF's at BKK/BKV. The three-car Tatra train is shorter, only about 45 meters long.
The Tatras are cool too 😎
it seems really fast and efficient
Line 1 is not the longest :D Line 41 is the longest tram line in Budapest with it's own 18,5km and 62 minute route. Line 1 is only 18,2km which is almost the first, but it really has the longest trams :D

CAF Urbos 3 trams are manufactured in the Basque Country, Spain and we, Budapest residents are very satisfied with them. However I did not understand why this video began with showing one of the most beautiful tram line in the world along the Danube embankment , the tram line no 2 ? Using of Urbos trams instead of old Ganz trams is hindered now by a narrow part of track at Chain Bridge .
Maybe I'll do line 2 next, I have ridden it before 😁

Wow! SO clean!!! I lived in NYC growing up, and the underground subway system was/is horrible, dirty NOISY, vandals spray paint grafitti EVERYWHERE inside and out on the trains, stations etc and there's NO upholstered seats because vandals destroy them. Unlike the trams, the NYC subway fare is controlled at all station entrances, so you pay there and then go to the platform for the train.

Ticket prices:
In 2023 some of the ticket prices have increased and in 2024 some pass prices decreased.
Travel can be crazily cheap if you spend half an hour on thinking about how much you will realistically travel in Hungary. The tickets are worth it for the very occasional travellers.
In Budapest, you will primarily go around by bus, tram or metro and on foot. The single tickets can only be worth it till you travel 2 times a day.
If you travel for less than 9 days, buy 24hr tickets for the whole county (Do not confuse with the word country) each day you use public transport. If you travel for more than 9 days, go for a monthly pass.
Also if you visit outside Pest county (Do not confuse it with Budapest) then just buy a 24hr ticket for the counties you visit, but if you would buy 5 or more a day or at least 9 in total of said 24hr tickets, go for a Hungary wide ticket / pass.
As tourist going to Budapest and maybe visiting other parts of Hungary, this is what's important from 1st of March 2024:
- Airport Express Shuttle Bus - Repülőtéri vonaljegy - BKK - 2,200 HUF (100E - Express Bus from Budapest's Airport (Liszt Ferenc Nemzetközi Repülőtér) to the City Centre)
- 24hr ticket in a county - Vármegye24 - MÁV-Volán - 999 HUF. (Valid in the county, on most MÁV , Volán, BKK, Zalaegerszeg, Esztergom operated vehicles)
- 24hr ticket Hungary - Magyarország24 - MÁV-Volán - 4,999 HUF. (Valid in Hungary, on most MÁV, Volán, BKK, Zalaegerszeg, Esztergom operated vehicles)
- 1 month pass in Budapest - Havi Budapest-bérlet - BKK - 8,950 HUF. (Valid on most BKK operated vehicles in Budapest)
- 1 month pass in a county - Vármegyebérlet - MÁV-Volán - 9,450 HUF. (Valid in the county, on most MÁV, Volán, BKK, Zalaegerszeg, Esztergom operated vehicles)
- 1 month pass in Hungary - Országbérlet - MÁV-Volán - 18,900 HUF. (Valid in Hungary, on most MÁV, Volán, BKK, Zalaegerszeg, Esztergom operated vehicles)
Well, technically there is a 15 day pass in Budapest as well, but I don't know if it's price will change or not. Right now it's 6,300 HUF.
If the price doesn't change, it's almost only worth it if you stay strictly in Budapest and your stay is at least 7 days long.

Beautiful city 😍
Almost though I saw the "Uithoflijn" (22) in Utrecht ;p
Some people have said 😂
For anyone who is confused: It's not the longest tram line in the world, it's the longest vehicle. Actually, Line 1 is not even the longest in Budapest.
The exterior of the tram reminds me of the tram in Utrecht, Netherlands. They might be the same model.
They are yes!
What about line 8A in Łódź, which is 18km long, and the new line 6, which is world record line (if 18.3km is really a world record), which takes 72 minutes and is approximately 23km long?
This video is about the world's longest tram vehicle, not tram line.
Awesome.
🙏🏻
Is the Coast tram in Belgium not the longest tramline in the world?
Yes
Diese Bahn ist nichts neues. Kenne ich schon ewig.
So?
Me toooooooo!
According to Wikipedia (HU) the longest tram line in Budapest is No. 41 with a length of 18,5 km
