  • Travel with us as we check the improvements in track, stations and signalling in Aberdare, Treforest, Taffs Well, Ninian Park and Canton Depot and finally Coryton. Also traction availability in Canton and more trams in Taffs Well. Otherwise a quiet day due to another national rail strike.

    All's well Taffs Well. Nice video footage and a steady hand around the bend. Nice addition to your collection Mike. 🚊🚉

    Thank you for sharing this FANTASTIC tour and insights into the major changes taking place! Personally I’m delighted to see that rail is doing well in and around Cardiff - a proper world-class city. Obviously sad to see the big heavies gone, but comparing Barry Docks in the 1930s with what we saw in the 70s, old timers then were depressed by the change! Definitely need to arrange myself a day ranger down there soon. Thanks again for posting this positive railway news!

    Monmouth - a town effectively ignored by the Cardiff Metro scheme. No rail link and a totally inadequate bus service. You can tell that the town and its hinterland are of absolutely no consequence to the Welsh Assembly - we are far too posh and prosperous to require public transport!

      I live in a similar town in South Wales, missed by the GWR, but it is too deep in a valley and was passed 5 mile further north.

    Thanks for the update on what's happening back in the Cardiff Valleys. Mega investment.
    I suppose never did anyone ever dream of trains powered by overhead electrical wires travelling to Coryton!
    Does Treforest Trading Estate station still exist?

    Good video, great to see how work is progressing.
    Last time I visited Cardiff and Pontypridd was is in mid 2019, just in time to catch the last of the TfW Pacers. I'm definitely going to make a return visit over a couple of days to explore the network when all the new trains and services are running.

      Buy a "Explore Cardiff and Valleys" rover ticket. I'm a pensioner and it only cost me £9.20 for all the Valleys.

    Thanks for another interesting video Mike, I've never been to Coryton before. Were you on the platform at Dinas Powys at lunchtime today?

    The Avocet Rail Users Group in Devon are eyeing up those ancient 150 units hoping they get some passed down from TfW. Now that sums up the sheer despair and desperation

      A Class 150/2 is a right old workhorse that has kept the Valley network running for 35 years plus so I think anyone who takes them on would have a good,old horse on their hands.

      150's are a bit noisy but the seats are more comfortable than those on the mew 197's

    • @simonpilk
      @simonpilk 7 місяців тому

      @@letrainavapeur to be honest being more comfortable than a 197 isn’t difficult as they are utterly horrendous when sat anywhere near a bogie.

    New isn't always better than the old. Trams are OK. But new unit trains that don't have windows that can be pulled open to let fresh air in are a death trap.

      Plus those awful "ironing board" seats

    • @letrainavapeur
      @letrainavapeur 7 місяців тому +1

      More people are killed from being thrown out of train windows, you could always smash them in emergency and open windows let noise in and stop the air con working correctly
