  • We learned about York River Yacht Haven while waiting to be dropped into the water at Zimmermans from a fellow cruiser. This marina is right around the bend from Zimmermans and is well-protected. It's right across the bridge from Yorktown which is full of history and pretty darn cool.
I've always found that I have anxiety about coming into a new marina regarding maneuvering, how narrow the runways are, etc. So, I decided to make my tours of marinas public in case others may find them useful.
We expect to be back here in June/July of 2023, waiting to be hauled out. The floating docks are in great shape. The restaurant onsite is pretty decent and the shop has lots of miscellaneous boating supplies. A short bike ride away is a West Marine. However, don't expect to find supplies for bigger boats there. I suspect, however, you can always have items shipped to the store if you know your schedule.
Laundry facilities are OK. Going to check out the pool in June, but it looks like it's well-kept. The biggest frustration is with the pump out being inoperable. We were told at the time is was scheduled to be fixed. However, receiving an email from the marina recently about options for scheduling a pump out at slip, I see that it is still inoperable. It's exceedingly disappointing to find so few, a poorly maintained, pump out facilities. It was no different in San Francisco.
Across the bridge is Yorktown which is well worth the visit.
