A great review and comparison. A solution to my disliked VZR Model One cable! Thank you for this very relevant information. I shall have to look into AUNE and this mic.
Another great video and review. Good timing as well, as I waited on getting the Antlion Mod Mic for my Meze 99 Classics. Definitely getting this boom mic now. Thanks Gadgetry Tech and keep the videos coming!
I love your reviews, It's thorough and to the point. I've been shopping for a new pair of gaming headphones and I settled for the EPOS H6Pro (open version) with WC Freeze earpads. And your reviews have helped with that.
Just recently bought the DT 770 Pro X LE and a Modmic 2 to run on a SBX G6 but haven't been bone to try it yet, will probably look into buying the VZR One with this too eventually. Really loving your content, keep it up!
I own these alongside the 109 PRO's. I used your review before my purchase. Here are my thoughts: =Build quality: good, though cable is not the thickest. Connections seem very secure, volume wheel and mute button is leagues better than V-Moda boom mic =Sound quality: great, absolutely no complaints though the PS5 controller has some hissing but that is Sony's fault =Ergnomics/usability: great, to me the flexibility of the mic arm is absolutely perfect, it does NOT sag Conclusion: great product at a fair price. Edit: today the end plug came loose from the sleeve. They can still be used but it's the not the quality I was expecting. Will be contact CS soon.
I'll do my best to make a video on this as soon as I can. I have videos scheduled every 2-3 days or so for the next couple months! It will come sooner than later for sure
That settles it. I was looking for a headset for so long since I need a mic since my headphones didn't have one. Now I can simply buy this and use it alongiside my Ananda Nano. This is perfect.
Great review! I've been looking for this for the last few years and couldn't find it anywhere. Finally someone did it properly and it seems to me that Logitech, Steelseries or Razer are scre**d in the audio segment.
In regards to the shared ground, this does become an issue if you want to use different devices for your mic input and headphone output as this setup on a shared ground produces a lot of noise. It's why imo the modmic is so useful (along with headsets like the beyerdynamic MMX 300) as you can run any high-end headphone dac/amp alongside another lower end device just for the mic.
Can't wait to grab one of these. Current daily for gaming is the 109 Pro and a Beacn Mic, but this will be so much simpler. I'm really wanting to swap to closed back, but I need to get a good sidetone solution first.
@GadgetryTech can you create a UA-cam short comparison of this mic vs corsair virturoso pro openback. Might be an a great upgrade, little to no microphonics and the mic sounds better. Or just a nice replacement if the mic goes bad on the corsair.
Great video as always, looking forward to the review for the Antlion ModMic Uni 2, and especially its performance on Xbox. I tried the original ModMic Uni on Xbox Series X last year plugged into my controller and it constantly had a buzz/humming sound under my voice, I tested it for a full month straight and tried so many different methods that the Antlion support team recommended for me, even tried multiple different controllers both wired and wireless, game-chat party-chat and Skype-chat, and different Y-splitters but the issue persisted. It was disappointing because I love the concept of the ModMic and want so bad to use my HD560s on Xbox with a good mic attached. Hopefully the ModMic Uni 2 fixes the issue.
Been looking for over 2 years now for a boom mic with mini XLR for my beyer dt1770 pro, without luck .. Will probably pick this up once my verum 2 arrives late this year
I used to use the vmoda boom mic with my K7xx with an adapter. I used it so much that it has almost completely deteriorated. Been using IEMs lately but I picked up an Ananda for a stupid price so this mic would be perfect for it. I originally wanted to see if corsair would sell the mic cable from the virtuoso separately but the listing never showed up. Missed opportunity on corsair.
More options is always nice but this can't beat the convenience of the modmic wireless (if you absolutely insist on turning your cans into a headset instead of using full sized mic)
What a great review, thank you so much for this! I’m going to use your link to purchase, want to support you. I’ve been using a blue yeti and am tired of it. Here is my question…I currently have the R70X but am looking for something new. I saw you mention the AR5000 which I am very interested in but also the new meze headphone. What do you think, should I hold off or go right for the AR5000?
Thx for all the videos Joe. I learnd so much. You testet so many different manufacturers but i am missing a little bit products from KZ. Are you not a fan of the brand? I'm currently considering of buying the kz zs12pro and i would like to have your opinion about this IEM. Thx so much. Greetings from Germany
Awesome thanks for the review, really interested! Small question does it pick up sound from openbacks like the hifiman edition xs? Or the software like discord will just filter it out?
This is a great product! I have a pair of Hifiman HE1000 Stealths and it sounds like this will work great with those. I do use them with balanced 4.4mm cables though. I'm assuming this won't work for a setup with balanced outputs on an Amp/DAC like the iFi Zen Dac V2?
Hi Joe, great video again. Just as a heads up, currently, the corsair virtuoso pro is on sale for £99 on Amazon which comes included with their boom mic cable that you mentioned in the past when reviewing the Fiio JT1. This could be a good option for some as this Meze boom mic option with shipping costs £95. Hope this helps anyone considering buying one of these. Thank you for your effort and time you put into these videos.
I got the virtuoso pro the other day when they dropped to £99 and they are great. The mic fits the JT1 just as Joe said and gives an extra dimension to that headset but still prefer the virtuoso. Only problem with the virtuoso mic is that it doesn't fit the VZR M1
@paulwhite985 The Virtuoso pros do look tempting at that price. I tried the H6pro open back, but the volume wasn't loud enough for xbox unfortunately. Currently using the Acezone A-spire after watching Joe's video on FPS headsets and they are amazing. A good set of open backs for other types of games would be nice would you recommend them ?
The virtuoso pro is a bargain at £99. The plugs to the headset are shaped so I am going to get extenders to use on other headsets and at slightly more than the meze boom mic it's like you are getting the headset for free. I have the h6pro closed and they get plenty loud on xbox but agree the open didn't so they were returned
@paulwhite985 They connect to your phone via Bluetooth app and then I connect them to the xbox controller using the 3.5mm port, I also have the audio adaptor that plugs into the controller to give you game/chat mix and volume control which works quite well. If you play a lot of FPS, I don't think you can beat the Acezone A-spire for £99. I got them for £150 and they are well worth at that price. The EQ preset on Apex Legends is so clear for footsteps. Comfort wise they are similar to the Bose QC35II so very comfortable however they have a slightly stronger clamp force which gives you the sound isolation and your ears will get warm after a couple of hours like most closed backs do anyway. I would recommend them if you mainly play FPS and want clarity over fun for sound.
Whats the name for the type of headphones that have a 3.5mm input on the left and right earcups? The hd600’s I have don’t have an input like the headphones you showcased. Huge fan of your videos!
Alternatively there is the Strauss and Wagner dual 3.5mm boom mic as a cheaper option. It’s one quirk is the mic is on the right side plug in for some reason. I didn’t know this and it sounded wrong. I’m not an audio expert and I don’t stream but the mic sounded fine. Not a huge fan of the 8ft cable here. That’s super long. Also don’t love volume wheels as this will just go straight into my Burson. Also recommend the geekria cable for vzr model one. Changes the one thing I didn’t like about the vzr. Goodbye twisty cable.
Does it comes with a mini XLR adapter? or can you recommend an equivalent solutions that would work / improve / replace the Default Audeze LCD-GX cable?
This sounds great. I have purchased way too many things from your reviews. Is a new Meze system on the way? Maybe haha. Are there any specific headphones (~$300-$600) from Meze or other brands you would recommend this with? I love being able to listen to music and take work calls during the day and then game with one setup.
you would have to be blasting for even the worst mic to pick up noise from your headphones, breathing depends how sensitive you set it/noise supression usually
This is such a big dick move! I've been using the Corsair Virtuoso Pro dual boom mic cable with my HE1000 and it's definitely not the best quality. The only shame is that inline switch

@gadgetry does this work with corsair virtuso pro just wondering because of that cutout on mic side could you check for me by chance? Cheers in advance
The only thing I don't like is the position of the in-line mute/volume. I play guitar and that's literally right where my guitar would sit. All that aside, it hurts me every time I watch one of your videos and still see you sub 100k. Subscribe to this man you noobs!

I use a minor noise gate/audio filter when I game, and people can't hear the game at all when I play at comfortable (still competitive) noise levels. Let me know and I'll send a clip for you
@@GadgetryTech I play on PS5 and use a Schiit Hel2. I have that turned to about 50-55% and usually turn my PS5 thingy mostly all the way down as it'll get weird if I go too high on the console side of it. @@GadgetryTechHi, it would be helpful to know if conference meeting like Teams or Zoom call audio will bleed and pickup by the microphone, let say at 60 output volume on MacBook with Hifiman Ananda or similar open back model ? Hope you may help to verify on this
Maybe I'm missing something but it's bizarre to me that they didn't just add a DAC and make them usb, who on earth is using front panel headers with headphones that cost more than £100, especially the Meze 109. Their headphones are very efficient so they're ideal for it.
I love the Meze 99 Classics/Neo/Noir for EDM and hip hop but they are horrible for gaming. Very narrow sound stage, worse than Sennheiser 6XX series. Too much sub and mid bass emphasis.

I'll usually see my lil in-game speaker showing up like I'm talking whenever these noises hit
