hey you guys saved my ass. I'm configuring a DOF reality P6 motion simulator, and their support website does not include a driver. The plug and play features for some reason were not available on my system, (Windows 10), and the device showed up under Other devices with no driver, but now after installing your CH340 driver I've found the devices listed under the ports section, so I can copy the com port number to the config file. your beautifully detailed video description told me what to do if I don't see my device in the ports section, then I found the CH340 mentioned there which I had seen in the troubleshooting part of DOF reality support instructions. (I don't even know what that is! haha) I've never used a USB to Serial device before... and I can imagine I would be spending hours at this, but your video led me to installing the drivers and subsequently locating my device on COM5, (and another on COM6) within 25 minutes of plugging it in and discovering that it's not plug and play. I appreciate you guys. And I'll be back if I still can't get this software to control the hardware

However, running an application for retail sales the scanned data never makes it to that application. Have a second USB type scanner and that works fine. Scratching my head trying to figure out why the scanned data from the serial device never makes it to the application. Any advice what to look for?
Hey, Tim! I have a Windows 10 system, 64-Bit, and need to install a COM port for a Monarch Track-It Data Logger. I've never done this before. Is this video, your UA-cam "USB to Serial Port Installation and Troubleshooting - Downloading Drivers, Changing Com Port Number" video, the best one to use to guide me through this please? Do you have another video you would suggest? Thank you, Tim!
Hi Joseph. I'm not familiar with this data logger but if it mentions a com port configuration in the data logger setup then this is probably the video to help you with the setup. A surprising number of "USB" devices are simply USB to serial converters.
If you go to the site and go to Control Panel and Supplies, then Allen Bradley PLC Programming Cable Kit, and then scroll to the bottom. The link is provided there next to "Download Drivers". I'll try to post a link to the zip in another response as I don't know if UA-cam will auto delete it or not.

Two thoughts come to mind. Not all USB to serial adapters are the same. Get a good quality one, Belkin used to be a good one but I haven't used one in a critical application in a while. The other is especially laptops don't always have full power available to the USB port. Try running it through a powered USB hub and see if that helps.

Thanks so much for this info Tim. I was hopeful that it would solve my problem of providing a drive that would work with the new MacBook Air with the M1 chip on which I'm running Windows 10 via Parallels. However, it seems that despite the Rosetta emulation with 64bit apps, that conversion capability doesn't extend to drivers. What I'm wondering is if you think this might be a Microsoft/Windows or a Parallels issue? My sense is that its a Microsoft issue and probably the differences resulting from the ARM architecture. If that's the case, I'm hoping it's addressed sooner than later. Any insights you can provide Tim or anyone viewing this thread would be much appreciated.
@@TimWilborne Hey Tim, the trick is Apple has introduced the new M1 chip which is a total game changer -- meaning lots of code rewriting. A lot has been done so far and most (99%) of stuff works on the M1. It's just those outlier apps which can be an issue, or, in my case, the drivers. Because a compatible driver couldn't be located a port couldn't be created. My guess is that one will be coming given Apple's move of all of their hardware to M1[X] platform. I've looking for drivers and lib file for about a day. congratulations for #theautomationstore. I guess, the web page was updated but still I can easily navigate to files thank you @TIM and @Amber for this video, Website and files.
You are welcome!
I have a question, I am using a pySerial library in python to make a program to connect to a cisco layer 2/3 switch. Will this work with that? It usually asks for a "COM" port but would I just need to put the name of the port that shows up instead?
I love the video btw :)
I would guess that you just need to specify the COM port. Glad you like the video!
I went to the website, but it looks like the site may have changed. Does anyone have the link to the website or the download?
It is still there, check step 4. twcontrols.com/control-panels/industrial-usbrs232-usb-serial-adapter-plc-programming
Finally! Thank you
Glad I could help!
I have a bbfly -bf32302 usb and I tried this and it still shows up in other devices instead of ports.
Never used one of those but it looks like that is a CAN interface. A serial interface driver wouldn't work for it.
can you give the direct link? i cant find it
are the drivers available still I tried and could not find them.
Yes, they are still there near the bottom if the page.
thanks dude your the best
Glad I could help Elvis!
Hey Tim from the comments, this video looks hopeful but I can't get your links to work to find the driver to download. Can you help? I've been spending hours on this already haha. Thanks!
Links in the description.
