  • This is a tribute to glamorous Hollywood screen legend Joan Crawford. Crawford's "from rags to riches" films made her one of Hollywood's most prominent movie stars and one of the highest paid women in the United States. She won an Oscar for her work in the film "Mildred Pierce" after she was let go by MGM. She was an early fashion icon in the 40s when designer Adrian instead of minimizing Crawford’s broad shoulders, he exaggerated them with shoulder pads setting a new trend in fashion. It is unfortunate that most people remember her for "NO WIRE HANGERS!!!!" from the film "Mommy Dearest" based on the book written by her ungrateful daughter Christina Crawford. The contemptuous feud between her and actress Bette Davis is stuff of Hollywood legend.
"Les Feuilles Mortes" was written by Joseph Kosma in 1945. Yves Montand with Irène Joachim introduced the song in the film "Les Portes de la nuit" (1946). The song was later realized in English as "Autumn Leaves". Crawford starred in the 1956 suspense drama “Autumn Leaves” where this Nat King Cole recording was featured. It is a late night kind of mellow drama with lots of twists and turns that keeps you watching until the end.
The classical “Humoresque" is also the name of the classic 1946 film "Humoresque" starring Joan Crawford and John Garfield. This version of Antonín Leopold Dvořák's "Humoresque" is performed live here by Itzhak Perlman, violin and Yo Yo Ma, cello. Enjoy! Thanks For Your Comments.
