Great video. Straight forward presentation and high quality. Thank you for taking the time to make this and share it.
Thx! this was exactly what I was looking for. Great help. Good explanation. To the point. Not to long.
Youssef Joumani *too
Great tip! Never thought of this! Gonna try it now
What's the app name
+ItsMyCraft Time it's just voice memos or s/t in comes w/ the iphone
+ItsMyCraft Time I talk by griffin is the app
Proud of you...
Short and full of info straight to the point! Subscribed!
Great video. I just checked on Amazon and there's a wide selection of lapel mics that plug into one's phone, ranging from $20 to $80, The majority of them are made by Lavalier. They stay in place at a constant distance from your mouth, and allow the mic to be hands free if the person speaking is also what's being video'd.
Thanks! I'm just starting my YT channel so I didn't want to cash out on mics just yet but this is a great alternative :)
Very helpful advice there about sync and file transfer. iPhone audio is incredibly good. Excellent internal mic on my 7 handles speech, jazzband, even a mighty classical organ with pedal bass down to 20 Hz. Mono of course. You can opt for maximum quality by switching the phone to wav rather than mp3 recording. All I want to add is that outdoors there'll be issues with wind-noise: so either use a lavalier under clothing, or contrive a wooly gag for the end of the phone.
This was great! Thank you for making and posting this vid. Your demonstrations are very helpful.
Hey man, this is a fantastic vid! Great upload. Kudos. I have been looking for something like this.
I’ve been searching for ages on how to get good sound quality! Thank you thankyou thankyou!!!!!
It worked! You are a life saver, thank you.
@jmalonear ha true! I guess if you have a faulty or broken mic then that's true
Thank you so much! Outstanding video with some prime info. I totally agree, any audio is better then what comes with the camera. Cant wait to try this all out.
Great practical tip! I just changed the battery of an old iPhone 6 to use it precisely for this. But I am looking for a lavlier mic or something like that to attach it to it. Any recommendations?
I was wondering, how much cleaning up did you do to the audio? Thanks! This was great.
Excellent explanations, I'll try it. Thank you.
The current bootle-neck with iPhone external mic recording appears to be the input electronics. In other words the mic preamplifier circuitry and the AD conversion. I've just purchased the Rode Smartlav +. A great little mic. Recording as specified directly into the mic jack (with the ambient noise reduction set to off on the iPhone) the audio recorded is a bit "synthetic" and thin sounding - hard to describe exactly, just about good enough for video blogs ...but only just about if you really care about voice recording. If I run the mic through even a mediocre $100 external audio interface there's a substantial step up in sound quality - clean and full sounding. Not surprising really, given the tiny portion of microchip dedicated to audio in the iPhone, but worth noting if you are wondering where the limitations ultimately lie in using the mic jack as a recording input.
Great video! Thanks for the tip... Looking forward to giving it a shot!
Great video! Thanks for sharing these awesome tips! Can't wait to try it out :)
Thanks for the video! I was wondering if you know/have any ideas on how to link your iphone to a other (smartphone)device, so you can click the record button from a distance?
In that way, when you are filming a subject from a distance and record the audio with your smartphone (connect to lavalier mic) you can easily record and stop recording without having to walk to your subject of tell him/her to stop recording.
Think this is possible?
just the job ... thanks for making it so clear ...
So when you record, you're recording with two audio devices at once and after you sync them you mute the phone's recording and keep the one using the mic?
This is perfect. You saved the day, Thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing! Keep up the awesome work!
Great tip for using earbuds w/ mic capability for a makeshift lavaliere. Thanks!
you are amazing !! so clear !! a true prof and a great voice ! THX !!
Genuis! Thanks Mr. Photogenic
I just tried this as I was watching the video, 'cause it's a free app right? Why not? Downloaded the app, recorded test audio, got it into my computer, and it sounds great! You just saved me a lot of time and money until I have the means to purchase more expensive equipment. Thanks a ton Lee. You're awesome.
What app do I use?
Hi, any help here please. How do i get create a good sound environment so my sound quality is great. Thanks
great video, very informative. Can you also tell me how to download the song i recorded with italk to be a ringtone on the iphone 5s?
This is great. Thanks. I was gonna spend a fortune on radio mics to record interviews via iPhone. Now my friend can record the video and I can record the audio and we can mix it when we get home. Shame iMovie for ipad won't allow import for long audio clips, then I could edit on location.
thanks so much for your video. I compared the audio of Italk, the dictaphone that came with the iphone and the rode app. the first two didn't sound good at all, sort of muffled. I also heard the sounds of cars passing using italk. the rode app, FREE version, was awesome. audio is crystal clear and you can upgrade for a cheap 9 bucks, well worth it.
Hi, Did you use noise removal? Or does the music help drown the background noise?
Very nice! thank you. Another thing? What other videoediting program can I use?
Hey, thanks so much for this. This app is really amazing!
Sugan Mariya what name app?
Thank you for this tip! I just started my own youtube channel and am trying to make it look more professional! :)
thank you so much for this video! my audio on my camera is not the greatest and i was about to spend 70 bucks on an audio recorder but im gonna try this!
What kind of mic would you suggest to buy to record instruments and plug that into an iPhone to do video?
@Fibr3Optix not if you already have an iphone. The point isn't to buy an iphone but to use what you already have
thanks dude, this video is a great help for me, I have one question, I have Ipad mini 4th generation with IOS 7, can it do the same things? I'm needing this because Im a teacher and I need to create vids for my kids, thanks again dude
Good Job - a nicely constructed contribution. Thanks for sharing (and hopefully raising the bar a little for YT contributors).
Just the voice recorder or do you need an app recorder?
This helped a lot! I downloaded the app, and it's working great! I'm still a little fuzzy on how to sync up the audio from my phone to my laptop then piece them together, but I'll just play around with it! But I do have a question, If I was recording from my laptop, for example Minecraft, would it be more difficult to sync the audio and video together, and where do I go to sync them together? Is there a program I need to download?
This video was so elogio thank you so much
Thx man so much! This will help me out so much.
Omg, the clap. Is that why they do that when shooting scenes in "real" movies?
You know the board thing where they write the name and number of the scene.
As a kid I just figured it was to signal that the scene has started.
Never thought about it like this until now. :D
Thank you! Awesome video!
Very nice, i recomend the mokia 808 pure view because it has a perfect mic
Great advice 😀
hi! i would love to try this, but I could not find a version of the I-Talk for my Mac. Maybe you can send a download link for it? Tanks in advance:)
You dont need a lot of money... just an iPhone :v (get it?)
its not de same on cheaps smartphones, i know
Samit Castaño Just head out to Wal-Mart or another discount superstore and pick up a super cheap mic. If your videos are just going to be shot indoors then you don't need a crazy awesome mic.
well it is like one of the most common phones in the world....meaning you wouldnt have to pick you anymore equipment for the big bucks
Samit Castaño lmao how poor are you
u guys are all bozos i have all phones n samsungs have better overall audio quality
fantastic video!!!!!
thanks for sharing...........
Excellent tut!
Thank you so much for this!!
Used this on my latest video and my audio sounds 100% better! Thank you!
What is the app
It's just the mic app that comes with the iPhone. Voice Memos.
+RAYAN Vlogs I want to know too
ItsMyCraft Time I wrote it........... lol ^^^^^^
Why is there still alot of static for me? XD
How about recording a song with multiple instruments? You reckon we could record each individual instrument and put it together with this method?
Great video thanks for the help!
Excellent video !! How did u achieve the black background
This is awesome! I have a #lavalier but I hate the fact that I forget to flip it on or I might need batteries. .. my ups is always charged so im looking forward to trying this out for my #beauty videos! Xoxo
Can you use the phone to record both the audio and video if the lavaliere cable is long enough?
Yes
the voice recorder app records sound better than the video recorder app. I believe it uses a different mic or at least it dedicates itself better to when it just records audio.
Okidoke what’s the voice recorder app
Ty that was really good now i got it thnaks again
thankyou great video
Watching this I genuinely didn't realize that it was 12 years old -- Amazingly shot and edited!
That was reallu useful. Thanks.
Good video. Thanks.
This is a really good idea, awesome thanks :D
Since this How-to demo was done in 2011….it's important to now know that it is 2015….and there are better options, IMO.
I use this as my "on-the-go" or 'portable' rig for professional voiceover:
iPhone 5S
XLR to phone jack cable
Shure SM 57 or Shure Beta 58 (or similar mic)
"Hindenberg Field Recorder" app found in the app store (NOT free…but you should buy ANY app if you're serious, IMO. The right tools for the right job is my mantra) Hindenberg is very easy to grasp, and you edit directly on the iPhone screen. It's cool!
This rig is also being used by large network TV and radio friends I know in my city.
Hope this helps.
PS: I do NOT have any financial interest in Hindenberg. I'm just a customer who bought it and loves it.
Very usefull! i will try it..thanks!
Best video on UA-cam!
Great video.. Is that backing track a loop of shalamar friends slowed down ?
I love your work
you are .... AMAZING
need more lessons for photography and edit please
is there any way that i could attach de rode video mic to the iphone or ipod touch and use that app to record audio? thank you
It's help me so much thanks for this video;)
FSF: question: would it not be easier to simply connect an external mike to the camera? Thanks.
Looking for good sound quality using my iphone for a podcast I want to start. I want to eventually purchase a mic but using the voice memo app is fine for now :) It's nice that you put this video out. God Bless
~Acts 2:38
Maybe I missed it but what app are you using to with your vid and italk ? Adobe something .... ? Thanks in advance. Great vid. Was looking for an inexpensive way to add commentary to my youtube vids.
What program do you use on your computer? Greets from Holland
How did you light this video? I am doing a you tube show soon and would to have similar lighting....do you have any tips for a beginner?
Thx man your vid helped a lot
Lee is the man!!!!!
This is great. I'm so pleased to have watched this video, my recordings have improved immensely and I was just about to spend a huge amount on a new mic. Money well saved.
DreamGirl Curves : so how has been the experience so far.i am also facing the same dilemma.
oh that's great insight. thanks
you so much. blue yeti is definitely a product that speaks of its quality, that's what i have heard so far.
DreamGirl Curves can you let me know the exact model name and price that you got it for , i would like to compare prices on amazon india and amazon global before buying it from india.
thanks for the good info
Hello greetings from mexico!
They are fantastic your videos!! What camera and lens do you use???
Thanks this helped!
Thanks for this video, Lee. iTalk worked well as you demonstrate, however file came across as an AIFF, not an MP3. I went into iTunes preferences and changed import settings to MP3, but next attempt still came in as an AIFF. Do you know how I can use iPhone/iTalk to record or covert to MP3s?
***** iPhone 5/5S increases the audio quality?
I'm from Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, and a professor in my university played your video during a media lecture. We all sat there watching you for 5 minutes. There's no point in me telling you this, I just thought you'd get a kick out of your worldwide reach.
Hey how can i add the recorded sound to my video correctly? Last time when i add the audio, the audio did not same with video
Thank you
So helpful!!!
If u use voice memos you can email it to yourself and accept it onto your laptop/computer
Very helpful video ;) tnx
Awesome... Thanks so much!!!
Thank you!!!!!! It's very important!!!
does Italk enhance the audio quality?
Hi, I tried to record this very same video with ITalk and my IPhone right up at the screen. Unfortunately, the playback isn't even close. Is that too much to expect? Is anybody else getting really good clean results?
It sounds exactly like at 0:17 of the video "sounds really bad. it's echoey. it's hard to understand people. it just sounds really really cheap"
Thank you!
How did you make that grey background? Its sick!
BRILLIANT THANK YOU!!
which software do you use for video editing
I can't find any vids on how to "line-in recording" from mixer. Do I need an app for this?
