@@DirtObseXXion as a long time dirt bike and atv enthusiasts, I gotta agree with you. Sxs owners have ruined most of our riding areas on the east coast
As a man that rides ATVs and dirt bikes, I got your back on this. Obviously there are people that ride SxSs that don't destroy hills and trails and act like a normal person, but that's not what the vid is about. Awesome job saying all the things I think about when I see ruts I could be buried in!
Its unfortunate the bad apples have to ruin it for everyone else. I come from dirtbikes but just recently got into the sxs game due to injury's from dirtbikes adding up over the years. I think the issue is when people who are totally new to any kind of offroading get into these machines. Otherwise they are great for people who have been in the dirt their whole lives and know how to respect the trails and their fellow riders. Theres also a huge difference between putting around and sociallizing like alot do, and then going balls out and actually using the machine to its potential. Kind of like the car comunity these days. Everybody just parks in a parking lot and talks for hours instead of actually driving the cars lol. Another issue with the sport sxs is they are way more capable then the average person skill level allows. Id say they actually take alot of skill to drive fadt and drift corners in tight trails without hitting anything. Seems like 90% of the crash videos are just dummies sending it off a jump or on hill climbs.
Yep! That's the exact progression Flyin Brian had too.. Ill be honest, I thought I was too old for a Raptor but now I can't imagine not having one in the garage
@@DirtObseXXionme too!! I never even liked Raptors until I started my research and ended up getting 2!! One for me and one for my son!! They are 2022 raptor 700r SEs. They are a little heavy but the power and torque is there!!! I used to race Gncc and only ever owned sport quads and a few dirt bikes. I’m 51 and can still rip my raptor but with more caution!! Lol!! I would still like a side by side just to cruise around the trail’s slowly!!!😎💪🇺🇸🙏
Good stuff brother!! The side X side groups are getting to be like the Harley-Davidson riders of the woods and off-road parks pushing events like mini Sturgis rallies
Everything you mentioned is true, I have seen this coming for quite a while, these manufacturers are destroying the sport. Polaris comes out with the 225 hp and most suspension side-by-side, do you think Can-Am is going to sit still and let that happen? It's scary going on some trails with blind curves, there is always some idiot coming the other way full speed not worried about anything except himself. And of course the stereos are getting out of control. Just like when you come to a stop light or go to a gas station, some idiot blowing his stereo causing your windows to shake with the bass. Now these idiots are coming down the trail. Won't be long before they start closing trails to off road.
Its already happening here. Several of the towns close by don't even recognize the plated sxs, because they know allowing them to drive in their towns will ruin the trails and run people off.
That's why I mainly frequent ATV only trails with 55" gates. If a sxs shows up it'll be a lil 800 or 900 and the warden might nail them because they're not allowed on the trail system. Handle bars and seats you straddle with your legs only. And I prefer going to parks that have tight narrow trails. That's why I am SOOO happy SxS's are going wider, because like 80% of the trails where I live are inaccessible to anything wider than 60 inches.
I had a raptor 350 then a scrambler. Sold em and got a sxs. Brought it new and yes its fun and cool but I just bought a used Honda 400ex because I just missed it. Nothing beats riding a quad on trials and have the freedom to flick the ass end out whenever ya want or just fly through gears on a trail
I agree. I bought a new polaris general 2 years ago. Always had atv's and still do. After 2 weeks I sold it at a loss. lesson learned. There was just no thrill in "driving" to me or my wife.
@@dustinslanec6747 another thing for is. Let's say your trip to the trail is over an hour. So you drive to get there and once there if u have a utv it's just more driving. Same seating position as the trip there and trip back. At least if u have an atv it's something different and u don't constantly feel like u are just driving for hours. Idk maybe that's just me. I am still jeering my utv but I drive it way less thej I thought I would
@@dustinslanec6747 Dustin, I bought into all the SXS hype and bought a new 2021 KRX1000 10 months ago and sold it 2 months later for the same reason as you...boring! My wife and I are back riding our 2005 BF SRA 650s and lovin' it!
Sorry about your crash. I ride atvs and I think this guy is an idiot. Old people with bad back (myself included) are looking for a way to still have fun. He is right about the pricing tho.
@tq8076 a utility quad is better on your bad as you can stand over rough terrain. When you're harnessed into a sxs your back takes all the punishment.
I’m a quad guy, but don’t mind a mindful and smart sxs guy who knows what he is doing and respects the trails. I do find the music and deeper ruts annoying through. What happened to the generation that liked the deep roar of that exhaust! The rocks are getting bigger and the ruts deeper. We need more responsible riders who truly love the sport!
I just came across your channel and absolutely love it. I totally agree with every single thing you said in this video about side-by-sides. People with more money than brains are buying these and the average person does not have $30,000 to spend on and off-road vehicle why don't companys put more innovation in there 400cc and 500cc ATVs that the average person can afford you don't need speakers on a machine to go outside and have some fun the whole purpose of owning machine to me is to get away from the everyday life and just enjoy yourself outside.
Awesome vid, guys. You're editing to align your opening words to Ron's lips is outstanding. I tend to agree with all of the points you mention here. Hopefully we can collectively come up with a more sustainable future for the industry and for the trail systems.
The amount of respect I have for every word in this video is second only to the respect I have for my grandfather who is no longer with us. Great fucking job!
This is so on point. I was out a few weeks back with a buddy in his SXS, shit show doesn’t begin to describe the day. The loud music, rutted trails, you hit it all. No thanks
I own a Cam-Am Maverick X3 and a Renegade 1000. The Renegade is the best time I’ve had on the trails. Looking at FPV footage of ATVs is enough for me to want to go out and ride.
Awesome content as always and some interesting points. Keep hammering out the ATV content. Something we know we need to do more of. Also, that cinnamon whiskey line had me on the floor 😆
I have a x3 with 230hp and I totally agree with everything you said. Not all sxs owners suck but most do. I don’t really ride trails just wide open stuff where a sxs should be and is built for. Most east cost sxs guys will buy a high hp sxs just to crawl in low gear 5mph and spend more time drinking bear and talking.
I'm glad you took this for what it was, obviously it doesn't apply to everyone.. But all the party footage was from our local trails, so we get annoyed with that east coast SXS culture you mentioned
Yup, I hate the 4x4 quads for the same reason I hate sxs. Everyone started buying big 4x4 quads in my area, and they made up for their lack of riding ability with power, massive tires, and a winch. I had to constantly pull my trx 250x out of huge ruts.
I feel 4x4 trucks and SUVs, etc. leave massive tracks behind on muddy paths... I'm primarily a motorcycle rider and I rarely dig up any soil with my rear wheel. But surely I often find I have to negotiate massive tracks left behind by 4x4s. In many places (e.g. UK) they blanket ban access to most trails to all motorised/internal combustion engine vehicles with the excuse that they damage the trails, noise, pollution, etc. Everything is put in the same bag and I'm afraid this may spread to more countries; esp. as SXS are increasing in size and popularity and their owners mentality is often not the one of a bike rider but a car driver.
Ya know, that's a really good point.. We ride adventure bikes too and the ADV bike crowd leaves very little trace... It sucks when you lose motorcycle trails because of SXSs..
@@DirtObseXXion One of my main complaints is when SXS guys try to navigate 50 inch trails designed for smaller vehicles which leads for more trails getting closed. I rarely see the 50 inch side by sides going down these trails.
I own both. And enjoy both. However I totally 100% agree with you on this. I trail ride with both. And it’s getting worse every year from the sxs tearing up and rutting trails.
For the past 15 years, my wife and I have both been having a blast riding our 2005 BF650s here in North Western AZ. We bought a 2021 KRX1000 10 months ago thinking we must be missing out on something? NOT!!! Two months after we bought it we sold it...Boring, Ear Bleeding LOUD! & Boring!!! There is NOTHING like the freedom of driving an ATV!
The side by sides keep getting bigger and bigger. When I see them on a show room floor I loose respect for the retailer. I’ve been run off a trail by a idiot driving a sxs but everyone drives too fast. Trails are getting worse and no one wants to fix them
I have both. Most time I'm on the mud trail with my atv, and I payed 12 for mine before they got to expensive. I hate it when a group of 30 has to pass you and they get rude if you can't move over. And you right about them tearing up the trails. I go where they can't fit. Great video about the truth
A lot of your points for SxS's also go with ATV's. At least here in Canada. We have lost access to large sections of trails due to ATV's going off the trail, ripping up farmers fields and ruining it for all. Very seldom here are the SxS's doing this. What I think is being overlooked is a lot of people who are getting SxS's are at the age where our bodies cant survive long trips on an ATV. When i was younger absolutely but now to do a 200km trip is too much on an ATV. I think both ATV's and SxS's do some stupid stuff like way oversized tires, loud sound systems and stupid/crazy lights. its all part of showing off to others. There are bad points on both sides and if EVERYONE would just learn to respect each other then i think everything would be much better. This was still a fun video to watch. Keep up the great videos.
I have to say as a person that rides sxs this was pretty good. Told it like it is. I’m still new to all this and grabbed the first machine I saw when I got tired of waiting for that atv I had on order. Computer chips or some BS causing the wait. Gave me a new perspective on off roading. Good job!
While I own 2 Commanders I hear what you are saying and mostly agree with ya on it. Because I can’t stand trying to ride down a nice trail and hearing either someone’s pipes or their sound system and then I ride on down the trail having to dodge holes dugout so big that monster trucks aren’t even able to go through them
I do anyway, between the loud exhaust, music ( if they’d just play country music ), and those super bright light bars they just hafto have on when they are in a line meeting a line of people. Makes me what a spotlight
I do anyway, between the loud exhaust, music ( if they’d just play country music ), and those super bright light bars they just hafto have on when they are in a line meeting a line of people. Makes me what a spotlight
Dude they do TEAR UP THE TRAIL WAY TO MUCH.. THE RUTS ARE DEEP AS HELL.. that's leaves people like me nursing there at or UTV over it while being off of it at times.. it sucks.. still fun to ride though
The worst part is when trails get closed down due to SxS and lifted mud built 4x4 ATVs causing extreme damage, everyone else in the sport (dirt bikes, sport quads, etc) gets dragged down too. Thankyou for making this video
The last time I went riding the whole place was 99% SxS with drunk drivers blaring rap music all night in the woods. I sold my 4 wheeler and went back to riding Harley’s. I can handle the sxs ruts and drunks but rap music in the woods makes me want to vomit 🤮. That includes so called “ country rap” too.
Sold an atv for a commander 4 years ago. Sold the commander 6 mo later and bought two atvs. Buying a sxs was a terrible decision that I was fortunate to quickly rectify. Screw sxs
@@DirtObseXXion I took a $5000 hit after owning a new 2021 KRX1000 for just 2 months...OUCH!!! Lesson learned here! I ride my SRA BF650 almost everyday and having a Blast! GREAT VIDEO...Totally On Point!!! Chad, please do a followup video! You speak for so many of us!
This video is not wrong! It really sucks that ATVs are on a decline. They are just more fun to ride! They are easier to "throw around", along with fitting in tighter spaces and between trees.
I have a HONDA PIONEER 1000-5. I did not pay an arm or a leg for it. I did not finance for 7 years. My used (and relatively inexpensive) Pioneer 1000 got me back on the trails. This old body just cant do ATV's or off road bikes like it did 35-40 years ago. AND . . . 75 horsepower is more than enough to get the job done, but only if you know how to drive the machine. BTW, I like to hang out with my wife, we don't drink, don't ride in 2 mph drunken packs, don't hang out with the type of idiots you describe, don't throw trash on the trails (we pick it up BTW), don't have 35" super swampers or rut out the trails, no booming 1000 watt stereos or lighted whips. 95% of what you see doing this crap are 20-30 somethings either in a Polaris or Can Am SxS, pretty sure that mommy and/or daddy or someone else is supplying the cubic $ that is required to own whatever these heathens are driving and destroying the trails with. In reality, it is the Idiot who drives the machine, not the machine. I agree, the trails suffer major damage from these idiots, but that damage is NOT a result my responsible use of my SxS on the trails. In fact, I have the same issues when trying to use a "stock" sized SXS on a rutted out trail. Don't lump me and other like me into that group, I'm not your enemy OR a participant in the insanity that your video depicts. You video hits the nail on the head for the most part.
Yeah, we know it doesn't apply to everyone.. But the videos of the partying is from our home trails.. We see a lot of this BS. There's certainly some good folks out there, but we're fans of Sport ATVs and this is an ATV channel. The SXS market is absolutely killing the ATV market, so that's frustrating
@@DirtObseXXion I appreciate what you are saying and agree for the most part. Just for some context, I worked for HONDA from 1983 through 2004. I enjoyed those "golden years" and sold or worked on the machines that produced those fond memories that many long for a return to. I rode the greats, the ATC250R, TRX250R, the ATC 350X, the "original" PILOT, which as as good a product that HONDA could not sell. What killed the ATC industry WAS NOT the SxS, that vehicle is just a symptom of the problem. HONDA bore the Financial brunt of the legal costs and government backlash over the supposed "Dangerous ATV's". The problem was not the machines, it was the grandfathers of today's "idiots" who put their kids on these machines, those idiots then sued HONDA when the kids got hurt or killed. HONDA and others were and remain obsessed with not falling into that trap again. HONDA COULD easily build a 200 horsepower SxS or ATV today, they choose not to and to avoid the potential legal problems. Being in the government's cross hairs like they were in the 80's has left an indelible mark on the entire company Why do you think that HONDA was so late to get into the SxS game? The management of HMC-Japan was originally dead set against the SxS. It was American HONDA and some influential dealers who pushed HARD for them to jump on board that "Cash Cow". Sadly, this was part of the reason that I left the industry, I saw HONDA moving from the leader and innovator in the powersports industry to just another purveyor of an expensive toy. Another thing and a topic for another discussion is the fact that HONDA went from a "Motorsports Centered" company to an "Automobile Company" that happened to have a "powersports division". Their focus ceased being Powersports and has not been the corporate focus for decades. Basically, HONDA left ME, I did not leave HONDA
My guess is that u sat down and narrated that entire video in one shot with no practice... You hit so many points that rang true with me.. At 55, i am virtually the last person on a atv in our group and don't mind it one bit. I haven't sat in 1 sxs that i like, u have to listen to a screaming engine right behind you that seems to be running 2000 rpms too much and get dusted the whole time your in it. Nice video...
I have been in the off road game for a while started on two and three wheels now all we pretty much ride off road is the sxs. I love the buggy but this vid is absolutely accurate and one one the best I have ever seen on utube. 100% great vid.
Thanks brother! Glad you saw the point and didn't take it personally like a lot of the duds on here.. I test SXSs all the time, it doesn't mean we have to like the culture or where the market is headed
I’m an ATV and dirt bike guy. Nearly bought a side by side but with some low back issues I don’t want to sit and drive but would rather RIDE. Very accurate video. Not many people who respect one another on the trails these days. Appreciate you pointing out the issues.
Couldn't agree more. Especially about all the boozing and riding around on the trails, being trashed and trashing everything. Not sure what your region is, but I'm in Michigan and it's the same thing. SXS are basically just rolling beer coolers.
What would you advise a person getting back into this crazy market to look at buying first? What ATV models are known for their quality and can be bought used or should I just buy new?
OMG excellent video you hit the nail on the head on so many points! It’s a shame that more people don’t see it the way you explained it in this video. Had to rewind and let the wife watch the part about the cinnamon Tennessee whiskey and the broad’s.. LOL I added the Tennessee part.
I have a sxs and an atv myself. My sxs is only 60" wide and is more like an atv than those crazy massive sxs's they produce. Honestly, I don't see the practicality behind a sxs that can even fit down 75% of the trails out there. I agree with some of what was said here, other than the fact that I've seen trash thrown out from atv riders more than I have anyone in a sxs. I liked the commentary though lol.
Where I live it’s a status symbol to buy a sxs put more lights on it than a Christmas tree and whipper antennas 15’ tall with the loudest speakers. Don’t forget the ice chest loaded down with bud light and tejano and tractor rap music with a trail of empty aluminum cans indicating where they’ve been. Sxs’s have bridged the only gap needed to get the city trash into the woods.
@@DirtObseXXion i’ve told you my story. I’ve been into three wheelers and quads since the 1980s. When I turned 45 years old I bought a Yamaha YXZ but I became bored of driving and really missed riding. Now I’m 48 years old and absolutely love riding my raptor 700R!
I was wondering do you have 50 inch or less trails in your area? In many of our riding area's we have smaller trails cut off of the larger one's, it works pretty well overall. Most of our really wide trails aren't really that bad and it's really nice going from the wide trails when you need to make up time and go quick to jumping on the less crowded 50 inch or less trails that only dirt bikes and atv's fit on.
We have some but only in the Nation Forest areas.. We're lucky to have some smaller areas that aren't worth bringing SXSs too... The government run trails are always a lot better.. They fine people for littering and don't allow alcohol
I've got a Can Am X3 with 205hp and 3 Honda ATVs and honesty i love riding the X3 because it will go anywhere and is stupid fast but after weighing out the cost of that fun I have put it up for sale and I'm going back to a ATV. I dont drink and don't have a expensive audio setup but I do see the majority of SXS people doing those things.
@@gbaileyo7 We drop some money in our sport quads but it's no where near as much and they're so much easier to work on.. Ive probably got 12k in my Raptor total but we like them because you can have on 20acres.. SXSs and even utility quads require a little more space to have fun
I’m 55, i had one of the first SXS ever made .. a Polaris RZR (2007 i think) ever since then, it seems to have exploded in popularity.. however, bad popularity comes with it. After 2 years i sold it and bought a Honda atv.. loved it!… Just recently sold it and bought a 2024 sportsman 570 Hunt edition.. I’ll never go back to a SXS.. it’s almost like a status symbol of how much money you have (or think you have).. as far as I’m concerned, UTV SXS’s are worthless as far as utility goes. I’ll never buy another one just to “make the wife happy” .. she can ride her own. 😊
Nailed it. I was hit head on by a SxS this year while riding my Raptor. I had pulled off to the side and drunk Ken Block still slid into me. Bent the shit out of my A-arm and the guys backed up..then kept going without even making sure I was able to continue on. Wish I had the GoPro rolling... Fuck SxS.
Great video. I used to ride my honda 400ex after work to blow off steam and have a little me time. I later sold it and regretted it. A decade later I move to Reno and find friends with atvs. I mention I might buy a SXS and they all say no. Do do it...and I didn't know why? This video explains why perfectly. Thanks. Now off to find an affordable atv lol.
I personally wouldnt let this video ruin your experience with sxs, I personally have had some of the best experiences on my sxs, I never leave meses, most of my group uses air pods or headphones and the only thing we could really say is are bikes are loud 😂 but we have fun.
@@sxsale9775 my dad is in his 70s and can't ride quads anymore so we might still buy a SXS just for him to come along in safety. A cage and a steering wheel isn't always bad.
I agree with most of what you're saying but as a life long dirt biker (who used to hate sharing the trails with quads) turned quad rider with age and injuries, and now just bought my first side by side (used) I hope there's room for all of us on the trail. I'm not the type to take my machine and put on the biggest tires I can find and go look for the deepest hole I can find though. I like to cruise and enjoy nature. And you're 100% right about the increased complexity and price taking away from the experience. Today it's all about money and no skill required. The instant gratification generation, I just don't know where all these people get the money to afford a brand new machine, prices have gone insane.
Dude. You nailed it. And aside all the Gucci sxs stuff and environmental awareness that mimics AOC talking points about cities she doesn't live in, the simplicity you mentioned is an overall bigger discussion about responsible behavior. It's like needing the newest iPhone to turn on your house lights on/off and file your taxes while dropping last night's meatloaf in the porcelain captain seat at work on a Friday morning. It's about escaping those things. If I wanted to listen to *insert music here* I would do it on the way to work. Trees don't care about the G-funk-money-love tunes echoing through what would otherwise be considered my time away from chaos. Neither do I. Back in the day, I bought a Rhino 660 and loved it. But, it was like a 1987 LUV truck instead of a new Ford 650 tramping around the mountains like a 1999 New Years Eve parade. Priorities of these companies have changed and they maintain their direction as long as people make the money to buy them. But, just like a lambo, the market is shifting and narrowing. This may be a good thing because from my deer stand, people need to wake up about the direction things are going anyway. Cheers, dude. Awesome channel and insight.
@@DirtObseXXion My first sports atv was a 1992 Honda 250x. My buddy had an 87 Yamahammer Warrior. We both thought they were the peak of power, though that Warrior was tons torquier. But, my Honda had better balance. Fact is, both had plenty of power. They both weighed 300ish lbs which made it great when we ran out of gas and had to push them home like men. Miss those days. Thanks for doing our bidding and giving some love to nostalgia. You the man.
I've always owned atvs and thought about buying a sxs. Thanks for making this video because I'm sticking with the atv. Everyone in the family learning to operate their own machine is a great way to look at it.
Great video I agree 100% I did break down and bought a rmax over the summer but will not lie I love to ride the grizzly 700 way more than the sxs....biggest reason for sxs was for multi day 100 plus mile a day trips and would like to get my father out on the trails. Sxs riding takes no skill at all just deep pockets.
If I had to get one the RMAX would probably be my choice.. I got to test them with Yamaha when they first came out.. But I'm with ya, if I had to pick between a Grizzly or an RMAX, I'm taking the Grizzly 100%
We have a 50", 500 CC SXS. Paid $7,500 and still under warranty. We love it, but were hesitant buying it because of the culture. The loud music, drinking (although, we don't drink at all), the crowds, etc. We like going out and seeing nature, but sometimes it's not much fun for all the reasons you stated. I'd love to get a two up ATV, but the wife likes the SXS much more.
10 years ago the trails weren't tore up with ruts. 10 years ago the number of accidents were low. Now the life flight helicopter Is kept busy carrying motorcycle and quad riders who are wiped out by a SXS flying down the trail.
@@DirtObseXXion Yeah it's such a huge problem I don't go to mixed trails if they aren't one way and if I can be on a trail that's not big enough for sxs's then I do.
I just bought a 64 inch x3 that comes with 30 inch criptids . Love the unit but everyone down here wants 35s or even bigger . Makes riding on a smaller tire damn near impossible now .
Chad ,Tell us how you really feel ! Makes our riding together at Daniel Boone that much more fun ( no SxS ) our name says it all THEATVWORLD ! Good venting 👍
I currently own a Viking and am in the process of researching an Atv to replace it with. I am older and the Viking provides a certain amount of comfort but my big issue is having to trailer it anywhere I want to go and the excessive amount of room it takes up in my garage when I am not using it . Since I mainly use it during hunting season ,it sits a lot . That said sxs riders haven’t got a lock on being assholes out on the trail. I have witnessed my share of idiotic behaviour from the atv crowds as well. Monster mudders with loud pipes and shit attitudes will eventually kill this sport whether it’s Can am outlander or a Polaris RZR . That is , if the manufacturers don’t kill it first by pricing everyone out of the market. Currently here in Western Canada I am seeing prices like $14000+ for a damn Polaris 570 sportsman! …. If you can find one and 18 grand for a Honda Rubicon? If you can find one !
As both an atv/utv rider I couldn't agree more. The only part I disagreed with was when you said they are becoming unaffordable to their market... they have been unaffordable for years, thats why you see 84 month loans and most of them for sale a year later "just looking for payoff" lmao!! I have a 6.5yo daughter and 2.5yo daughter. My utv is a way for me to get the 6.5yo to the parks because she's not old enough to ride her outlaw 70 there herself yet.... so for now she tags along with dad in the KRX lol. Happy trails guys!
Hit the nail on the fricken head! I couldn't agree more! Every ATV/SXS dealer in the country needs to have this video playing on a loop in their showrooms. You just earned another subscriber, thank you!
WOW, don't pull any punches there buddy - lol - but nice recap/summarization at to the end. I agree with everything you said. It's not the responsible SxS guys ripping up the trails. It's the guys in groups like the ones shown in this video. Thanx for doing this video. It takes a man with big stones to take a stand like that and you, my friend, have a "brave man's set of boulders". Merry Christmas and Happy New Year buddy!
I agree with you about everything. Granted I own both a x3 and a outlander. I love riding my atv but being able to take my daughter out riding with me is a plus. These days it's to dangerous to let a nine year old ride a atv at these parks where drinking is encouraged, so I bought a sxs so she can enjoy the sport too. But riding that outlander is intoxicating. The feel of the machine. The way your body controls what the machine is doing is next level.
I have own practically everything several sport quads, several big bore 4x4s, several sxs. Every brand, every size. I had sports quads and small 4x4s, then moved on to big bore v twin 4x4s and sxs's. The most fun I ever had was on the atvs, especially the sport quads, but I did love the Ole v twin 4x4s also. Then I ran across a video on a Kawasaki kfx 700, which I had forgotten even existed. I thought this would be a perfect machine now that I just turned 40. So I finally found one in great shape and bought it! Wow.. perfect combination for me, big throaty V Twin and a sport quad set up!.. I can't believe I been missing out on this all these years! So much more fun than my sxs's. About to go through this thing and mod it for some serious trail time!
Dude, this video is great. I have never seen a video about SXSs that completely encompass all of my feelings about them. Like especially the purpose of riding that you hit on. It’s to go out, clear your head, explore and enjoy the outdoors while doing some fun shit. I ain’t gonna buy a SXS for $35,000 when I could buy a damn truck. It’s absurd.
A lot of valid comments here and a solid vid. I’m still a sxs guy. I don’t like the culture but the wife and I prefer the sxs fun. It’s her favorite thing to do and she doesn’t want to ride a 4 wheeler. We don’t drink. Pack out what we pack in. Have all our teeth and don’t rock a stereo on the trails. In the end I think you have to live and let live. The world changes and so do people. If the rednecks want to be stupid let them. They don’t define anyone but themselves. There are a lot of good sxs folks here who respect what off-roading is. We still keep it simple as possible. Again a lot of true statements in the vid. We try to respect everyone and I want you to enjoy the sport how you see fit.
@@DirtObseXXion Oh for sure. We actually hate that sxs “culture” as well. We try to avoid those people if possible. Can’t stand the loud rap music and the drinking and driving…. Unfortunately there’s quite a bit of that these days.
“SXS BRO’s” 😂😂🤣🤣 I’ve owned my fair share butttt with a totally different crowd. At the end of the day there’s nothing like going riding and actually feeling like you rode the next day! #savesportquads
Some true stuff in this video... But there are times I enjoy riding my SxS... Times I still really enjoy ripping a loud sport quad... And times I man up and do it all on an ATC... 👍👍👍 #savesportquads #makeatcsgreatagain #realmenkick #trikelife #teamwaxoffroad
I’ve went from a Polaris predator 500 to a rzr and I wouldn’t go back for anything. Always been and atv guy and i still love them, but the SXS is just the way to go for us.
Glad to hear someone say it.....some of my friends trying to get me to dump my Sportsman 1000 for a SXS as I'm not a fan of them. This is exactly some of my thoughts on the whole SXS thing.
@@DirtObseXXion I started a group exclusively for ATV's, rule #1 atv's only. That's the purpose of the group. People that don't like it can join the sister groups that don't care and do mixed rides. I've been on so many mixed group rides, some with 40+ people with 30 sxs's, 7 atv's and 3 dirt bikes. It was an absolutely miserable experience and we ended up splitting up. Dirt bikes went and did they're thing, sxs group split into the "slow" and "fast" group, and the atvs all ripped someplace else entirely. But when we were all on the same trail together, it was horrible. We spent hours with sxs's getting stuck, having to do take turns doing 3 point turns around curves, getting stuck on tree roots... Dirt bikes complaining about rocks and falling over because they can't get any momentum, and atv's just basically being sxs mechanics...
I have to disagree! I just picked up a brand-new sxx for 13k. The new SXS are 50" its a game changer, it can ride where atvs can. And its now affordable. I have more fun with my sxs than my atv. But depends on the day. Lol, its just a different sport.
God bless you. Because of these arses we have fewer places to ride. And because of these arses the places that are left turn to rutted shite! I don't see it changing but I dang sure appreciate your honesty.
The one thing I don’t understand about having a side by side is how is that fun for the passenger(s). The whole fun of off road driving is the actual driving. My wife and I both have our own ATV’s and we have a blast.
I grew up riding sport quads and recently purchased a SxS because of all the hype that surrounded it. I sold that piece of junk because it just wasn’t fun to ride. So I just recently went out and bought my son a YFZ 50 and myself a Raptor 700! My son and I are having so much more fun riding quads together rather than being strapped inside a cage! #savesportquads
I've rode quads most of my life. I now own a x3 because my body just can't handle the abuse like it used too and i have a career that requires my body functioning Monday morning. I can't agree with you more. At times I am ashamed to be part of the sxs culture. There are many sxs owners that care but they are over shadowed by the ones that don't. I think this is the way with many sports though. I have ran across my fair share of dirt bike and atv riders that act the same way.
We appreciate anyone who loves off-roading.. Just hoping people stay respectful and the Manufacturers remember that it was blue collar folks that made them what they are..
@Dirt ObseXXion absolutely I had to change over due to an ankle replacement. My ankle couldn't take the banging on a 4 wheeler. 60 inches is as big as I will go.
I agree that sxs’s bring a different dynamic but the same could be said (and was said) about quads in the late 80’s and early 90’s by dirt bike riders. Even today, go to Croom (west central Florida) and you will hear 2-wheel guys complaining constantly about atv’s on “their” trials. The garbage left on the trails and loud music with a cuss word every two seconds is a real problem. SxS’s are the primary culprit, but atv’s riders aren’t blameless. I see plenty or quads with loud music and beer coolers strapped to the back. You could argue that an atv with a rear seat, sound system, cup holder and a beer cooler is just as bad. Perhaps you would argue that it’s just an extension of the sxs culture….and you would probably be right. To be fair, SXS Involvement (at least in Florida) has had some positive impacts as well. I live in Tampa and I own 215 acres in Marion County (north central Florida). For years I only rode on my property but in the last 15 years there have been at least 7 different private off road parks/resorts opened within 2 hours of me. These “resorts” are largely funded by drunk idiots who don’t drive over 8 MPH and listen to hardcore rap music (you are a 39 year old white guy who is 85 pounds overweight, can’t dance, and cannot relate whatsoever with anything that is being said in those songs). YOU LOOK STUPID. PLEASE STOP. ALSO, TAKE OFF THAT CHEAP NECKLACE AND PUT ON A SHIRT. That being said, those places sometimes do offer good/decent riding ;especially in the mornings) that simply would not exist without the economic opportunities created by the sxs market/culture. Have riding areas been closed because of loud music, rutted trials and garbage? YES. However, have new off-road opportunities opened up because of sxs’s? YES. It’s not as simple as you make it. Great video by the way.
Is a 51 year old man I absolutely agree. Side by sides are like a golf cart with ATV wheels on it. I absolutely love a high-performance 4 x 4 without power steering
Your video is awesome, and I appreciate it. But I’m still getting my first SxS because I plan to just to use it for fire roads and hunt with my dad. My family doesn’t approve of me ever getting a ATV or Dirtbike because of incidents throughout my life with close friends and family members. I respect everything you’ve said because I see a lot of SxS drivers being extremely reckless on instagram reels.
SXS have ruined my local trails to the point that they are impassable by youth ATV's and dirt bikes......and not enjoyable for full size ATV'S and bikes.
Great video! Some of my buddies are avid keepers and we’ve had this convo several times. They are excellent drivers and shy away from going often because of the sxs reasons you listed here.
Just bought a YXZ 1000R SS. Worth it. 🤔 $15,000 ATV or $20,000 for a whole care. This is in no way the way I treat my sxs more do I drink and drive. I miss quads as much as the next guy but I'm living in reality and not what once was.
You are pretty accurate in your video. I have been building and maintaining ATV trails and love riding them with atv’s and sxs’s. However, it seems more and more of the sxs market is drinking a good amount of alcohol while riding, riding beyond their capabilities, destroying the trails by spinning tires excessively and blaring their music. It gives the ATV community a bad reputation and I think a way that could limit a lot of this is highly restricting the sale and use of turbocharged sxs’s, limiting sxs’s to 1200cc and atvs to 850cc, limiting width to 66”, and limiting sound decibels of sound systems and exhaust systems. I know most people would fight this, but it would bring the sport back to people who have passion for the sport and not just partying and speeding.
I agree with those recommendations! I think we'll start seeing those restrictions come from the riding areas. At least the ones that want to stay open.. BLM closing over 300 miles of trails in MOAB is probably an indication of what's coming as a result of a section of the offroad community making a nuisance of themselves.
Well this was your Best video ever . SXS really do suck and the 2 guys that I know that has them has to fix them every ride .I have modified my Sportsman XP 1000 so much with longer wheelbase ,big tires and weights that I can out climbing most SXS and been trying to get someone to make a bet with me but so far no luck and my son in law messed up one bet I had going because he didn't know and spoke up and said he goes up all of them hills.
You nailed it at the beginning when you said it's always better to ride than to drive but I'm glad you didn't stop there! I hate side by sides more every day and would be embarrassed to drive one at this point. I have two Grizzlies ('19 and '21) and a 2020 YZ450F and will soon be adding a '22 Raptor and a '22 YZ250 (2-stroke).
@@DirtObseXXion I've had Hondas, Kawasakis, Suzukis (including the MX bikes of each brand) and even a few Arctic Cats (two 4-wheelers and a sled) but Yamaha beats them all for quality/reliability and, very often, innovation and engineering too. 👊😎🍻

Hilarious…..I’m new to the SxS world. Coming from a ATV, I’ll use this video on what not to do. I did find myself asking “why would I need a cooler”….I’m definitely not with drinking and trail riding. It’s not a social hang out for me.
This video is about bad riders…. I’ve always had ATV’s but after selling mine year ago I’m thinking a SXS may be the way to go now…. Just not sure if that are fun like my ATV or motorcycles are… it is nice to bring a friend too being that none of my current friends have ATV’s anymore…

Dude you can't explain anything to this kid he just hates sxs and there no talking him out of it or they get mad from the truth
Finally someone calling it like it is. So much truth here. I love my outty, and my raptor. More fun to ride than the rzr I used to have.

Yes sir!! Absolutely right! Thanks Viking, see ya Wednesday brother! 😘
That's what we're afraid of too..
I love playing my music load
They should have atv only trails for folks who just wanna ride
I remember similar things were said about ATVs, when they were pulling sales away from dirt bikes back in the 80s.

Gotta say I saw it coming with the 2 up atvs as well though. The 4 wheel drive guys started turning puddles into mud holes in my area years ago.
Definitely true!
UK) they blanket ban access to most trails
to all motorised/internal combustion engine vehicles with the excuse that they damage the trails, noise, pollution, etc.

Thanks!
Thanks! Entertainment is all I was really going for..
Because I can’t stand trying to ride down a nice trail and hearing either someone’s pipes or their sound system and then I ride on down the trail having to dodge holes dugout so big that monster trucks aren’t even able to go through them
So even SXS guys get annoyed with bigger SXSs? 😊 Thanks Stacy!!

Thanks brother!
True. ATV won’t crush you back like this probably will…
Couldn't agree more. Especially about all the boozing and riding around on the trails, being trashed and trashing everything. Not sure what your region is, but I'm in Michigan and it's the same thing. SXS are basically just rolling beer coolers.
Kentucky.. Pretty much h everywhere here, WV, IN, TN all the same...
LOL
I added the Tennessee part.
Thanks KC!! That cinnamon whiskey will getcha!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤘
Lol
I have a sxs and an atv myself. My sxs is only 60" wide and is more like an atv than those crazy massive sxs's they produce. Honestly, I don't see the practicality behind a sxs that can even fit down 75% of the trails out there. I agree with some of what was said here, other than the fact that I've seen trash thrown out from atv riders more than I have anyone in a sxs. I liked the commentary though lol.
Thanks for comment! This video is a rant but it's really just for entertainment purposes
Sounds very similar to what the dirt bike community was saying about the ATV community back in the 1990’s.
Couldn't have said it better myself..
Maybe the big companies should make a trail sized bulldozer, and market it as a SxS so a few of those ruts get filled in on the trails.
That's some outside the box thinking! I like it!
Riding is more fun than driving! PERIOD!
😍🤘
@@DirtObseXXion i’ve told you my story. I’ve been into three wheelers and quads since the 1980s. When I turned 45 years old I bought a Yamaha YXZ but I became bored of driving and really missed riding. Now I’m 48 years old and absolutely love riding my raptor 700R!
@@theviking4525 The Viking! Cheers 🍻 Bro!
Totally spot on! Only reason for a sxs is you can't ride a atv for a physical reason.
True!
Glad to have you back in the ATV community! We know it's not everyone who does these things, but we see it a lot

@@gbaileyo7 We drop some money in our sport quads but it's no where near as much and they're so much easier to work on.. Ive probably got 12k in my Raptor total but we like them because you can have on 20acres.. SXSs and even utility quads require a little more space to have fun
@@DirtObseXXion Your exactly right there. When I had my 400ex I could have fun for hours on a playground jumping and climbing
Fuck SxS.
This video make you respect those trails that don't allow sxs or 30in tires on them, great video
Definitely!
Lol! Good luck!
Thanks brother! Definitely miss the simple life.. That's why we love our sport quads
You just made it all worth it brother thanks!!
The same thing could be said about ATV's from a dirtbike rider.
😐

You know it Mikey!!
That's a great point!!! Thanks for watching and commenting, Happy Trails to you and the kiddos!!!

WOW, don't pull any punches there buddy - lol - but nice recap/summarization at to the end. I agree with everything you said. It's not the responsible SxS guys ripping up the trails. It's the guys in groups like the ones shown in this video. Thanx for doing this video.
I definitely understand taking the kiddo along!! You're right about the wheeler tho, feeling the ride is where it's at!
Damn that was a great video!!! What made me laugh so much is it is all true...That is your best work to date Chad..

Very cool! We've had all kinds of stuff too but never the kfx700.. Im jealous
Exactly! I'm glad you appreciated it brother!!
Entertainment purposes only.. Fully acknowledge that there's good folks everywhere

Glad to hear someone say it.....some of my friends trying to get me to dump my Sportsman 1000 for a SXS as I'm not a fan of them. This is exactly some of my thoughts on the whole SXS thing.
I've been the only dude on an atv in many a group... Wouldn't have it any other way..
Thank you!!! It does suck.. But you're right, there's no end in sight..
The one thing I don’t understand about having a side by side is how is that fun for the passenger(s). The whole fun of off road driving is the actual driving. My wife and I both have our own ATV’s and we have a blast.
That's the way to do it!
I grew up riding sport quads and recently purchased a SxS because of all the hype that surrounded it. I sold that piece of junk because it just wasn’t fun to ride. I can't agree with you more. At times I am ashamed to be part of the sxs culture. There are many sxs owners that care but they are over shadowed by the ones that don't. I think this is the way with many sports though. I have ran across my fair share of dirt bike and atv riders that act the same way.

I own a sxs and totally agree. I went with a small sxs and will not drink and drive. Good video and truth.
We've seen the opposite.. More areas closing because of the damage and environmental impacts

Enjoy that Yamaha it's a great machine and that transmission is alot of fun!
