- Mustang. It's a word that provokes a sense of performance. Most of us have owned or know somebody who has owned a @ford #mustang. Today, we take a collection tour with Gary Thomas, owner of one of the, if not the, best Shelby car collection in the world. Gary's collection includes, Mustangs, hot rods, ford hypercar and supercars, and other Ford performance cars.

The #Ford Mustang has been in continuous production since 1964, the Mustang is currently the longest-produced Ford car nameplate. Currently in its sixth generation, it is the fifth-best selling Ford car nameplate. The namesake of the "pony car" automobile segment, the Mustang was developed as a highly styled line of sporty coupes and convertibles derived from existing model lines.
Originally predicted to sell 100,000 vehicles yearly, the 1965 Mustang became the most successful vehicle launch since the 1927 Model A. Introduced on April 17, 1964 (16 days after the Plymouth Barracuda), over 400,000 units in its first year; the one-millionth Mustang was sold within two years of its launch.
The success of the Mustang launch led to multiple competitors from other American manufacturers, including the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird (1967), AMC Javelin (1968), and Dodge Challenger[9](1970). The Mustang also had an effect on designs of coupés worldwide, leading to the marketing of the Toyota Celica and Ford Capri in the United States.
Through its production, multiple nameplates have been associated with the Ford Mustang series, including GT, Mach 1, Boss 302/429, Cobra (separate from Shelby Cobra), and Bullitt, along with "5.0" fender badging (denoting 4.9 L OHV or 5.0 L DOHC V8 engines).

Mr. Thomas should call his garage "The Snake Pit" -- now we know where all the Cobra's are hibernating. I am not sure what is more stunning, the collection or Mr. Thomas' F-O-C-U-S! Very nice.
I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this collection in person. Something I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. So glad to have the opportunity to meet Mr. Thomas and see some of his prized possessions.
I was very fortunate to see this collection of fine cars. One of the best car collections that I have ever seen. Gary is also one of the nicest person anyone can meet !!
Growing up in San Diego in the 60s to 80s, my grandmother lived in Tijuana MX and we'd visit her frequently. I totally remember seeing this strange roofed, unique looking '69 Mustang thinking, "What's that?". This was in the early 70s when I was in elementary school and was getting into cars. I saw this Shelby De Mexico Mustang more than a few times(it was silver with a black vinyl roof) and upon realizing what it was, I was bitten by the Shelby bug and starting keeping a scrap book filled with pics out of magazines of anything Shelby(Cobras, Mustangs even little Sunbeam Tigers). The Shelby De Mexico started my appreciation for Shelby produced vehicles :-)

I was always a huge fan of the 65-66 Shelby GT350s and always wanted one. But that Chicken Coupe 67 in that red just peaked my interest in those later Shelby 350/500s. All beautiful cars, keep on collecting, great vid!
All I've got to say is WOW
I have ONE, unrestored, non-driving 1969 GT-500 Convertible. It has taken me a very long time just to be able to acquire this ONE. Been trading up for a long time. I cannot imagine how in the world someone is able to acquire such a large and beautiful collection. But the saying goes, "When a foot measures itself against a yard, it always comes up short." I am satisfied, baffled but satisfied. Just got back from seeing the Segerstrom collection in person. Also a very nice collection of Shelbys.

Thanks to the owner and one more or lots of good reasons to become an engineer.
This guy knows his stuff, but he's incorrect about the Tiger. Rootes Group contracted with Shelby to build a prototype but he was taking too long so Rootes Group hired Ken to build one as well. Ken got his Tiger done first and at a cheaper price, but it wasn't very refined and handled poorly due to the motor placement. Carroll Shelby got HIS prototype done and it was ultimately the winner. The Tiger name is originally from Sunbeam back in the 30's when they named their land speed record breaking car the Tiger and paid tribute to that car. Both Carroll's and Ken's prototype Tigers (known as Alpine V8) still exist. I'm a huge Shelby fan and a Sunbeam was my first taste of the Shelby world. Also got a Cobra replica parked beside it.

When I was a teenager back in the late '60's/70's I was looking for a Shelby, they where hard to find where I was. So I ended up "settling" for a 429 Mach 1. Wish I would have kept it, but I really regret never getting a Shelby!!

Many years ago I had a Mustang restoration shop in Palm Beach and restored one of the first 67 GT500 had a 427 with 2 fours. Very quick and most unusual.
My dream retirement gig. Collecting Shelby's and showing them off. Not to mention driving a different one every day.

@@jamesbishop6873 the company Gary Thomas worked for was a different division/entity that had nothing to do with Ken Lay and the others at Enron. GT worked at EOG Resources
@@blue72nova EOG bought themselves from Enron before Enron tanked. Best E&P out there and have been since inception. Mr. Gary was instrumental in this.

@@gurnblanston3210 I am a Brit and am very familiar with the history of Aston Martin, their 1950s racing programme and Shelby's role as a driver and nothing more. I am also very familiar with the Lola that became the GT40 and I would recommend Alan Mann's autobiography to anyone interested in further reading on the subject of this cars development. Shelby was a competent driver, not in the Moss/Fangio class by any means, but competent nevertheless. I dont know why anyone would believe that Shelby "engineered" Astons 1959 win or designed the GT40, no serious student of the era could believe such a thing, did Shelby ever claim this credit for himself?
@@gurnblanston3210 The story of the AC Cobra is well documented and I am aware that AC had already put a V8 into an Ace, but they ran out of money and couldn't get engines. Shelby stepped in as a sharpster go between and businessman and put the operation together. Obviously he put his name on it and built a brand, I dont think that is a "scam" just artistic licence and sharp business!
@@gurnblanston3210 Now that is naughty, and does not surprise me. The motor trade has always been full of sharp characters, here in the UK more than one race and rally team manager has ended up in jail for various frauds. That doesn't make it right though.
