GFRIEND PROTOCOL QUEENS
Gfriend are the revolution for Girl groups choreos. They were the very first girl group to add more complexity into footwork for girlgroups tho before them, girls usually focused more on arm movements and girl groups were under qualified as dancer tho companies didn't let them do more energetic dances.
Gfriend created their own concept of power innocence that combine a girly and innocent image with fierce and powerful vocal and dance skills.
Gfriend opened the gate to other groups to try harder dances and challenger choreos and of course, they are the standard for synchronization.
Also in girl groups back then (and even some today), members were forced to stay under 50kg and many of them were pretty tall so they had to starve themselves to make the weight cut basically, that means low energy for dancing AND the impossibility to build muscle mass necessary to do powerful dances (muscles are heavier than fat for the same volume), not to mention the risk of getting sick after exhausting themselves from dance practice and one of the worse sleeping schedule imaginable (basically I'm saying they were doing almost everything in an unhealthy way).
Now girl groups with powerful dances mostly have short members (ITZY, LOONA, EVERGLOW, etc), so it's easier for them to stay under the weight limit while packing a bit of muscles and staying healthy.
I wholeheartedly agree with your statement. GFriend certainly shifted the focus to powerful movements and strong energy in choreography, AAAND they didn't have to go down the "girl crush concept to do it which was very refreshing at the time. They showed girl group choreography can be powerful but stay feminine. A lot of the 3rd Gen groups followed suit.....even groups like Twice reluctantly have to step up their game. Now when you watch any of the 4th Gen groups, they are all so in sync and good vocally too.
Charred I remember when crayon pop said they practiced with more than 1-3kg of sandbags on their legs. It's sad :(

And that fact that they actually tried to debut with soft and cute concept but they couldn't do it (their power are too much). Eventually it becomes power innocent concept. Glad they couldn't do the cute concept, if not I wouldn't know them.

Yesssss.... I was going to comment about this. They are the best and so much fun to watch doing 2x speed versions. But the blindfolded one where SinB is SO aware of what is going on (by just sensing the movement around her) that she even pulls Eunha into the right position when she gets off track. Brilliant awareness through her other senses. Fun to watch these girls.

Honestly, Gfriend is definitely at the top for me in terms of girl group choreos (they're even better than a lot of boy groups in my eyes too). There's just something about them that's so pleasing to the eye and that something is so hard to imitate. That's why I can never watch any dance covers of their songs.

If you was amazed for this you will react to their dance x2 or the line dance, that show how amazing are they, their angles in hands, arms and legs are the same in each member without matter the height difference, they are the queens and every kpoper now this.
Gfriend well known for their Sharp Choreography that made them look cool and grateful. They dont have the Title QUEEN OF SYNCHRONIZATION for nothing.

Indeed! since debut (2015) they have a really nice discography and aside from their title songs, most of their b-side tracks also have choreos, which they prepared a lot for their korean and international tour concerts. They created over the time their own sound, a GFriend sound, when you listen to their tracks every new release you say, "ahh this is GFriend indeed", they have cute concepts like in debut era, emotional ones like Rough, melancholic ones like Time For The Moon Night, Sunrise, Crossroads. And Apple is probably their most different one, maybe? cause it has this "sassiness" added (I mean a dance practice has, let's say, regular clothes, a music show performance has this added element: outfits), but in general all their songs have these in common: synchronization and power

When you were asked "why this is no in hardest choreo..." Yess that's always bcome to gfriend. Ppl nowadays sleep on them bcs of they're not come from big company, Gfriend music is not their types (gf known for ballad and contemporary concept), gf has no 100million views on utube. And Gfriend seems flop to them. But fun fact that Gfriend has conquered any talent. They're top vocal girlgroup, monster performance, ppl called them God-Friend, Synchronization' Queen, monster of 2x speed dance. So yeah...they just sleep on TALENTED GROUP
That and the fact that people tend to put higher expectations on gfriend choreos cuz hard is normal for them and people just think its normal choreo when gfriend does something hard. Thats why gfriend had to make their choreos harder and harder almost every comeback. They started with the glass bead kick, then go to mgt vaulting, to rough's super well timed line choreo on the dance break then navillera's dancebreak. They toned down on the difficulty a bit for fingertip but then went full on s tier difficulty love whisper with the choreo that was made specifically for water esthetics, injury risks were so high. Summer rain was a bit easier since the song was slower but after that tftmn and sunrise both really exhausting choreos. I didnt include sunny summer because that choreo was specifically made for buddies to have a song that we actually dance to without it being too difficult. Then they promoted crossroads and labyrinth (they didnt introduce labyrinth as a second title track but they basically treated it like one) and those formations are like for other groups, they would put those formations to their choreos once in a while but for gfriend, they do it every comeback. Thats why the expectations for gfriend is higher and the hard choreos seems easy just because its gfriend. Then apple is basically very difficult because they need to dance differently because of the different concept from what they usually do.

Bang PD, The owner of BigHit bought Gfriend's company Source Music and he said that He will make a BigHit universe that connects Gfriend, TxT, and Bts's storyline). Gfriend story is getting darker. If you watch their mv's according to date releases, you can see the growth of their concepts (They make their own concept by the way). Gfriend didn't immediately change their concept to dark. They sticked with their storyline which makes their music videos and lyrics really interesting cause it doesn't just showcase a song but also showcases their story.

What i love about queen gfriend dances is that they are synchronized and their transitions from different formations.
*Gfriend Queen of Synchronization* and the best thing about them is that there transition are so clean , there synchronization despite having 6 members only, their clean execution of the dance moves, always on beat and their light feet hitting the floor packed with their amazing song and vocals and most importantly their harmony with eachother 💙😍.

Gfriend's is indeed crispy clean! The formations are insane.
They are one of the best groups in creating tableaus and imageries with their formations and handwork. I personally would love to see you check out their dance pieces for Time for the Moon Night, Sunrise and Crossroads. Those songs have more focus on emotions and lyrics and the dances show their storytelling ability. Fingertip is also a great song that shows their funkier, more powerful side.
Gfriend is the "QUEEN OF SYNCHRONIZATION" 💗
Where does "Rough" sit in ranking of Gfriend songs for me: Song wise, its my favorite title track song of theirs. Choreography wise it's between Rough and Love Whisper as my favorite. Music Video wise, I do really like the MV but it's not their best because at the time the company didn't have a lot of money so it's not anything fancy though it was #3 for the most viewed Kpop MV in January 2016. Gfriend really blew up with "Rough" and its one of the longest charting and best selling songs in Kpop in 2016 and has the 2nd most kpop music show wins by a single girl group song.
Rough MV was actually very good for a small budget mv. You wont think of it as such when you watch it.

I'm late but also a Buddy (Gfriend fan) so I enjoyed your reactions. When asked "What is the hardest Gfriend choreo" do I think, there are ways to answer too. Gfriend's choreo are either considered easier than most boy groups' choreo, but harder when it comes to synchronicity, lines, and formations. This is why some people think Rough is not that hard because you can actually dance to it alone. But it will become a hard choreo to pull if you dance it with a group.
Some Gfriend's choreos are actually easy to remember and execute alone. But dancing it with 5 more people, then it will become hard. Gfriend moves like a programmed machine, they have same lengths, lines and execution all throughout their dances. And this also makes their performances look easy to some viewers.
For me the hardest choreo is either Rough and Love Whisper. Love Whisper requires stamina and rhythmic/timing accuracy. The foot work is endless and one wrong move you'll look a lot different with others. As for Rough, there's a fair balance of gracefulness and power. You dance too graceful, you'll lose the strong image. You dance too powerful, it wouldn't look innocent. The contemporary dance of it makes it harder to pull. And to dance it with 5 other people? Man, it's a work!
I'm not even that big of a GFRIEND fan, but I always stop to watch their MVs and dance practices. They're amazing and I feel like I owe them my time lol

The queens of synchronization that opened the door of complexity for arms and footworks in dance. Their transitions are always crazy. I love their choreography but their transitions always leave my mouth open. It’s smooth, unnoticeable and when you noticed it, they’re on new formation. I just love it!

i think the best way to witness the complexity of gfriend's choreos is watching a cover group afterwards. never looks as effortless and elegant as gfriend themselves

DC isn't that underrated, yet u say the most underrated. There are many more underrated groups in kpop if u know. They're just underappreciated, just like GF.

Gfriend were revolutionary back then with their synchronized dancing and sharp moves since girl groups had a bad reputation of having easier choreos! They changed up the game for girl groups!

The beauty and intricacy of gfriend choreos come from how each member execute each movement with each other while acting out the emotions. Complexity is one thing but, like other people would say, a complex choreo doesn't mean a beautiful performance. Gfriend's dances are more focused on the overall performance. Even with the simplest of moves, every little detail matter. from their facial expressions to the precision to their group chemistry. A lot of people may find it easy to learn gfriend dances on their own but there are rarely any GROUP of people who can completely encapture the essence of Gfriend performances. Dancers can learn the steps but a lot of times, I still notice those cover videos of gfriend choreos lacking small details that finishes off the beauty of their performances. The lack of these details often affect how the song is portrayed emotionally. Sure, gfriend have some complicated choreos but a lot of people take that complexity at surface level.
An example of this is when a group of trainees covered love whisper. they misinterpreted it as a cutesy song which it's not so when i watched the performance, i could immediately tell that they haven't mastered it the way gfriend did. this is also a common mistake a lot of cover groups commit when covering gfriend songs.
Even though I'm not the biggest fan of most of Gfriend's songs, I can ALWAYS appreciate and respect their choreography!

Something I always appreciated with GFRIEND is that they almost always put whoever is singing somewhere that ISN'T in the middle. They move! Or they're off to the side or moving from the back to the front. It has always interested me.
