I have Worker's Playtime and Talking with the Taxman About Poetry on cd. Would love to have that 3 LP deluxe vinyl set!
Did the NME dub Billy Bragg "The Bard Of Barking"? And I am sure I remember Billy's rewrite/own version of "Route 66" extolling the virtues of "The A13" - which I believe passes through Barking.
Between the wars was my first single and Levi Stubbs tears is still today a fantastic song .Cheers Phil love your channel.

Great video, as always. Never heard of Billy Bragg before. I've listened to a couple of songs now. Not sure yet if it's for me. Though I do think that I hear a hint of Dylan in it. I might give it some more trys. The big box reminds me of the one Judas Priest did. Have you ever seen this one?
Yes I have, it was a lot more expensive than this one!
@@NowSpinningMagazine Yeah, quite pricey. Had to have because of all that Live-Stuff, though. Still had to keep my other Box with the Remasters from around 2001 or 02 because of the Bonustracks. And they sounded better, which was a bit of a bummer.
I promised myself that I would treat myself to this box set if I passed a big exam today - and I passed the exam! So I have just purchased it.
I know so few of his songs but those I have heard I very much like and without getting sidetracked into a different discussion, I very much empathise with his political views anyway - plus one of my best mates has kept raving on about him for years.
So "what the hell", I've taken the plunge and I am sure I am going to enjoy it.

It's a cyber-security certification, it's the field I work in - keeping bad people out of the business telecoms systems my employer sells.
Yes, I am REALLY looking forward to getting it tomorrow and the missus is out with her friends on Friday evening so I shall chill out with the box set then with hot cups of strong tea. (No beer unfortunately as I have to pick the ladies up and get them home before they turn into pumpkins at midnight.)
But it's so "lovingly curated" that I just want to explore what's in the box from a completely fresh and "newbie" perspective and just see what I find.

It is now Phil not opened mine yet. I think it was the shock of Amazon spiking it up to £138 but it dropped back. I am so glad he did this box . I had the previous two box sets from years ago but can only find one at moment .
The dealbreaker on this is not the price but the fact that the spine is blank. I am not sure why artists / labels think this is a good idea - makes the sets look very bare on the shelf.
That is an interesting viewpoint but this really is a labour of love with Billy being involved all the way through the process.
I like Billy as a person, or what I know of him as a person. However I never could stand his music. Also he is very political - something which I can't abide in music. Having said that, it's a sumptuous set. I remember seeing him on the Tube ( music show ) and switching over promptly. Just a question of taste - which will often divide us. Nice piece as usual Phil, take care.
