Yes! I'm going for bronze! I've been almost exclusively reading library books so this challenge will give me some steam to start prioritizing my owned books.
One year I did a variation of this. Allowed myself to purchase a max of 10 books in that year and everything else had to be owned or borrowed. Exception for audible credits already purchased.
Before there was ever such a thing as BookTube (or YT, for that matter), I thought I was the only one who was so OD with my lists, what I "needed" to read, what I wanted to read, what I was actually reading, etc. I had no idea there were others who had the same mania. Counting pages instead of books actually makes a lot more sense, as simple, standard metric.
This is such a great idea in theory. I just know I could never do this. I would have to start with a much smaller number to start. Five sounds about right for me! 😂
If you want to join, pick a number that’s right for you. I aim for twenty weeks which is like a marathon. Tough but doable. For you, maybe five or six weeks, or something .
@@anotherbibliophilereads I'm thinking about it. I just know myself....Maybe if I started VERY small and was successful, I could add onto it/extend it. Thinking about it....
It seems like you were pretty quick last year. Point of clarification on the page count challenge: must you complete the book? Good luck! I like your vintage book caveat.
Yes, I want to join!! I think 100 will be about right for me (I have 5 bookcases that are now over flowing onto the floor and this MUST be remedied!!!) I take the books I have finished to the Friends of the Library unless they are too good to give away. I NEED floor space!!! Am going to have a couple of problems to solve because the next books I have chosen to read are all over 1000 pages, and about 5 Chunkers. Plus I am joining you and Allen reading Against the Day by Pynchon, 10087 pages all ready set for January. I am going to have to think about this, how to have it count and not slow everything to a crawl. Any idea when we shall start this monster of a Challenge ??? I may have to mix and match some of your suggestions.
@@LeeKempter You can always to the page count version. I wanted this variant especially because of Against the Day, The Brothers Karamazov, and Proust. I’m going for 25k pages but you need to pick what is right for you. I aiming for 20 weeks .
Enjoyed hearing the history and details of Read Your Own Books Challenge. I've seen it all over Booktube. I've done a TBR challenge in the book blogging world for over a decade, and I always try to read from my own shelves first ... but then, there are the books that my book group chooses (which I usually get through the library), books for Booktopia each year, and though I don't normally buy books for myself (though I buy a lot as gifts!), when we visit an indie bookstore, I do like to support the store with a small purchase :) I liked hearing your personal caveats and the flexibility in the challenge.
Ha ha ha doing it to yourself again- yeah- I sort of do this this year - I will go for low buy and get my physical tbr on my shelves under 100 unread. Will see how it goes. Best wishes on your challenge!! 😊
Okay, okay 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ I just cataloged my library and got book mail today that has to be added to the catalog list. I am in. I will go in bronze “cycles”. Read 25, I can buy a book. I do also have a few handful of indie press subscriptions I want to keep, but won’t count those in the challenge. Also, what I started doing in the past month is after reading one of my books, if I don’t think it warrants a re read, I list it in my Pangobookshop, so I allow myself to buy a book if I sell a book on Pango, so I may keep doing that. All of the caveats I have added to my challenge, but I am in, yeah. I am 🫣
Let’s do this! So stoked to have you all on board again
Maybe I’ll try this again. I’ve failed twice 😆

I love the page count idea and it’s convinced me to give this challenge another try!

I would say no you don’t have to complete the book. If you DNF, just count how many you finished.

We are all out of our minds for doing this again - BUT I CANNOT WAIT! 😂👏🏻👏🏻
He got dubbed the evil mastermind in the first year of 100 Book Challenge.
@@anotherbibliophilereads and it still sticks! 😄
You have options.
For self-imposed complicated reasons I am going to have to read 120 books this year. Totally my own fault 😂😂 but I’m looking forward to it
