it's the only perfect game I've ever played. Definitely go for NG+ and give back the charm, it feels like that is how the game was meant to be played, but they toned it down because otherwise it wouldn't sell.
For me, Vampire Survivors was the game that really reignited my love of gaming. I played it while recovering from surgery this year and the "just moving around" gameplay combined with the absolute wealth of stuff to unlock and discover kept me hooked.
Damnit, I heard the codec sound and immediately checked my phone to see if I was being called… then I realized that you too have it as your ringtone. Well played sir, well played!
The more I think about it Lies of P stands out as my personal game of the year. It really replicated the feeling of playing through a souls game for the first time.
My favorite new game of the year was Dread Templar! The aesthetic, weapon upgrades, and platforming elements made this one of the better boomer shooters I've played in awhile!
My Steam top 3 2023: 1. modded Skyrim SE, 2. modded Oblivion. 3, Modded Fallout. I also finished Jedi Fallen Order, God of War, Quake 1 and 2 remasters, Brutal Doom 1 and 2. All on the Steam Deck. ...But my home is Skyrim. Edit: ...And I just like tinkering with the Steam Deck. Testing and breaking stuff.
I have been playing mostly tactical shooters; Ready or Not, ARMA 3, Ground Branch; and turn-based strategy games; X-Com 2 and Civilization. It’s such an awesome experience to be able to play them on a handheld.
Wow ARMA on deck, thats not for everybody :) ... Aiming is pain on console but I was able to play some lighter FPS games like Ghost Recon or Mass Effect.
@@JanHavel that's for sure. It took me awhile to get used to using the right touch pad as the mouse. I did play Ghost Recon Wildlands with friends. It was a blast.
Dont know if it was my GOTY but the Dead Space remake was terrific. I am a huge fan of the original and had a great time seeing all the ways the setting was modernized. Also it is like 60% off on steam right now.
I prefer handleheld gaming. I normally use my TV for background noise. My series x gets used for Hogwarts Legacy these days. If i could cross save, I'd play it on Deck instead. I'm not starting over.
I played a total of 37 games from start to finish this year, but the only one I played that actually came out this year was Hi-Fi Rush because I played it with a month game pass ultimate key I got on G2A for 2 bucks, I'll get to all of these in a few years when I can get them for 5 bucks
LOL for me too. Especially because I was sick. I didn't have my editor this time and I didn't want to shoehorn in music so I just went without it this time. Should be more like normal next time 🤞
Warframe. I am loving playing Warframe on my Steam Deck. And since they have started adding cross save it is even better because now I can play my merged account on Steam Deck, my desk top, Xbox, Switch. It's brilliant 😺
my fav games on the Steam Deck this year were by far Sea of Stars, Cassette Beasts, Potionomics, Potion Permit and Melatonin. absolutely amazing experiences
I really enjoyed playing Rachet and Clank: Rift Apart on the Deck. It was really smooth and that game feels perfect on a handheld. I also love BG3, and I've been playing Life is Strange True Colors
I just ordered one of these babies for my wife (512GB LCD version with a good discount) - we're hyped! Valve did everything right this time, well done!
My favorite game recently on the steam deck has been Darkwood. A few days ago they updated the game with an improved controller scheme and I have been loving the game. Its probably one of my favorite steam deck games along with vampire survivors.
nice but none of these games are for me sadly any other tips? atm i mainly use my deck for emulation of older games like ps1/ps2/xbox/xbox360 im kind of a retro player
If you play retro games, I highly recommend exploring indie games that are inspired by retro games. I know you said this list isn't for you but El Paso Elsewhere is very much a PS1 style game and Armored Core 6 and Robocop feel like modern PS2 games. Have you tried Evil West?
I love running vs Fighting games on my deck especially those from Arcsys (guilty gear, DBZ, blazblue etc...) those are marvels of japan animations and looks so gorgeous on this new oled screen. Those games are also amazing for quick round between few subway stations 😅 I also finished Phantom Liberty on my deck with Geforce Now. I was able to run at ultra specs with RTX overdrive with a 4W tdp and max battery life. Was seriously amazed by its production quality and story, definitely a GoTY contenders for me.
Just ordered a new oled 512 (I was on the fence since launch of original) Also new sub to your channel to help me get to know the system better 😁 Hoping to buy Alan Wake 2 and that it’ll play well on the Deck
Both killing floor games have no right looking as amazing and running as flawlessly (especially KF2) as they play on the Steamdeck. Also Cult of the Lamb is a game I absolutely fell in love with on the steamdeck.
my GotY contenders are definitely more obscure than most people's, but here we go (they all play great on Steam Deck, of course): probably the most mainstream, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective was the remake i've been waiting over a decade for, i'm so glad more people will finally get a chance to play one of the best stories in gaming, and meet the best dog in any fictional media ever. JETT: The Far Shore + Given Time was a long awaited next game from Superbrothers, maker of one of my favourite indie games of all time. JETT originally launched on EGS and PS5 (it was even featured in one of the earliest showcases of the latter before the console's launch), but i'm glad i waited for the Steam release early this year, as with it came, well, the full game, prior versions being incomplete, and bringing a lot of fixes and optimizations for PC in general and also specifically Steam Deck that were absent in the EGS version. it's a game that i've simultaneously felt super chill and super stressed playing, in very much a good way, and is a full audiovisual experiance much like the studio's prior game. Firmament was, while not Cyan's best game, still a really nice puzzle adventure set in fantastical worlds. played it during a vacation trip and had a lot of fun. Furquest is basically Undertale meets WarioWare, what more can i say, it's perfect! Steam Input was really useful to map the joystick to D-Pad for movement, too. and finally, The Expanse: The Telltale Series brings me back into the world of The Expanse, probably the greatest Sci-Fi world of the past decade, and is also Telltale's return to making games, so i thoroughly enjoyed that when it came to Steam.
For me the deck was for the games I probably wouldn't have played on my PC: Toem The Descendant Yesterday Origins Steamworld (Heist + Dig) Pilgrims Gien Home Games I was surpised to play on it were : GTA:IV Boltgun and also OpenMW (Morrowind open source engine) runs really nicely which is very dangerous as I can easily drop 200+hrs into a playthrough It's a great backlog clearer, and a compliment to my main rig. Thanks for all the content this year, I have enjoyed every video.
Ordered my deck today! I've wanted a deck since it first released and was going to get a 64gb LCD but I kept waiting until The Deck 2 released. All I wanted was an OLED screen and lo and behold Valve delivered. I finally saved enough after giving up shortly before oled was announced.
There's a lot of games I loved playing this year like Blasphemous 2, Quake 2, Sonic Triple Trouble 16-bit, En Garde!, Mcpixel 3, The Big Con, Sonic Superstars, Mario Wonder, Half Life, Severed Steel, Orbo's Odyssey, and Spider-Man 2. But the one game that I enjoyed the most in 2023 is Turbo Overkill. To me the game feels like a true successor to one of my favorite fps titles, Doom Eternal while having a fair bit of movement options and encouraging weapon switching through weapons being on a cooldown after using their alts. There's so much I love about the game, but I really don't want to make a really long comment. I will add that I didn't play one of my most anticipated game of October El Paso Elseware because the mouse acted like a joystick and I assume it's applies stick settings if a controller is detected and it always detects the steam deck as a controller (at least through steam). I don't like using gyro mapped to something that feels like a joystick so this was a problem for me especially since this wasn't a problem in the next fest demo.
My favorite game that i feel like has alot of enjoyment is ganna be cyberpunk. I love how the game runs on it (No dlc included) I like driving down pecifica and around the badlands, even tho i also own a big pc, i enjoy the steam deck cyberpunk more beceus then i try the least importend thing! and it makes not only the deck but also the game itself such more life!
RESIDENT EVIL 5 is marked as unsupported, but you can max out settings and runs perfect 90 fps on Steam Deck OLED. I believe DEVIL MAY CRY 4 is the same. RE series + DMC series + Ninja Gaiden series are my go to on my Steam Deck :)
I know you need the views, but it is very frustrating having to rewind the video to figure out the name of a game you are reviewing since I cannot seem to see a displayed title anywhere.

I rly think RE5 and Code Veronica can both wait for later, the next game that needs a remake is the original Resident Evil, I know it got the gamecube remake but come on those camera angles make it unplayable for people used to modern games and it def prevents me from getting into a series if I can't play the original game
I felt the same for a while but gave 1 a shot anyways and I would really recommend trying it out as it was honestly a lot of fun and the original remake on steam removed the tank controls with full analogue movement so after max 30 minutes to 1 hour of adjusting to fixed camera angles it plays very smoothly I promise!
@emiliosanchez4610 I have it on steam I have tried many times but it is just unplayable for me. I really think if they did a proper modern Remake of it, it would boost the sales of every other RE game because there are a lot of people like me who don't like to get into a series unless it's with the first title
@@johnsducks9816 I am the same in that I have to start with the original and even though I was sceptical and having had no previous experience quickly adapted to RE1’s Remake fixed angles. But I get it, sorry to hear you couldn’t get into it. It’s a very fun series and I am gonna be honest and say you can fairly safely start the Resident Evil series at 2. Cause 1’s story is from the perspective of two characters that do the same thing and in canon they kinda did it at the same time? But in gameplay it makes 1’s story a mess and requires ignoring what happened in the game anyways for the overall story of the series to make sense by reading a recap of what actually happened in 1. So by reading the plot synopsis you arguably get the whole picture of 1 more than playing the game. Sorry for the long comment, I just could identify as I was in your shoes like 2 years ago having never played RE and today I have played up to 6 and have enjoyed every game (including 1) a whole lot!
Favorite games on the steamy Deck is Hotwheels unleashed , Nioh 2 the complete Edition , Ninja gaiden master collection , Devil may cry 5 and soul Calibur 6
If you told me last new year that I'd get a key for Fallout 76 in a humble choice then spend 900 hours completing all of the content in it, I'd have smacked the DMT pipe out of your hand...but that's what happened 🤷. Also spent a lot of time in Baldur's Gate 3, and got in to Diablo 4 while it had a free steam weekend last month. Played a lot of OlliOlli World again, even tho I wrang that game dry last year it's just nice to turn my brain off and melt into the flow state of a perfect run... fucking love that game.
Robocop is definitely my game of the year. Hogwarts is number 2, mainly because it's a stuttery, unplayable mess on my PC, but runs great on the Deck. All the other games I was looking forward to this year were massive disappointments (Forza being the biggest).
I am playing and loving the rhythm game Melatonin - beautiful aesthetics, intuitive gameplay, and lovely lofi tunes. The Deck has good sound quality through my headphones.
I managed to get back a lot of the handhelds I had and sold off / broke when I was younger this year. Psp, 3ds and vita so between those and the switch lite almost all of my gaming this year was handheld and a lot of it was ps1 stuff. I think one of my Favorite gaming experiences this year was the megaman legends series (played on psp) I really enjoyed all the early 3d stuff I played this year and am currently looking into a good handheld for playing n64 stuff (really wanna play the n64 bomberman games, goemon, Chameleon Twist and castlevania 64) outside of retro stuff I also want to get more into action rpgs this year trials of mana being up next on my to play list
Lovely list with some promising games i didnt even knew they were made. Back in 2009 i played ff13 on the ps3 and hated it. I never made in to the end. In my mind it was a complete fail. Last month i got the steam deck oled and bought it on steam on sale to give it a try. 14 years later i absolutely love the game. The Oled screen makes it stunning and it runs smooth on highest resolution what gives the impression this game is only a couple of years old. Plus Persona 4 Golden is amazing on the steam deck. Will try Baldurs Gate, sea of stars and Octopath 1 and 2 next.
So I thought I was gonna play 20 minutes and put it down go back to rdr2 or Diablo 4. But no Dave the diver the randomly generated each time you dive into the water hunting for fish and picking up loot. All to provide for your sushi restaurant where you make money. Upgrade your diver so you can dive deeper in the water and uncover mysteries of the depths. But then there are mini games, farming simulator, story I think is pretty interesting. Each character you meet is unique and quirky. I can’t put the game down it so easy to hope on steam deck go through 10 min and then come back later for a 2 hour session.
Hey Hollis! Here's Sonic: Sonic Adventure 2 N7GDA-095KC-HYM29 Sonic Adventure 2 DLC WETA2-FLPWE-PAMAG Enjoy! Maybe consider using my affiliate link next time you pick up something on Humble or Amazon. Thanks! 😅

I have not regreted it one bit, has been so fun to have
Bruh baldurgate 3 looks better on my deck than on my pc. It's optimized for deck really really well. And also i can DOCK IT to my TV. Some people are nuts.
I have only actually finished two games on my Steam Deck so far, and they are The Last Campfire and The Last of Us Part 1. Both games I started and finished on the SD. I have played a lot of other games on my SD, but I have not finished any of the others, and most I have not even got all that far into them. Other games I have been playing on my SD include: Hogwarts Legacy, Dark Souls 1 & 3, Forza Horizon 5, Hades, Untitled Goose Game, Vampire Survivors, and Subnautica.
Yeah, BG3 is great on steamdeck :) ... surprisingly enough Mass Effect Andromeda is also good on steamdeck, I wish they fixed DA:I :/ ... also SWTOR works nicely for me if you play with input a bit - probably only MMO that somehow make sense to play mostly because it has that story based SP content Bioware is so famous for. I wish Secret World worked - with that limited skillbar it would be great but its pain to setup, hopefully Valve will eventually make this compatible too one day. Worms W.M.D were also nice, Subnauticas are decent too. Also adventures like "Polda 2 remástr" from our country are great because there arent much controls involved and its easy to run those :)
This has always been my go to channel from the moment I preordered the deck, and you said something that really struck a chord on what confirmed my decision to get an OLED, despite my current steam deck already being perfect. It’s one of the only things I’ve bought without a smidgen of buyers remorse. Being at university and going to and from my family’s house and rented accommodation has meant I can bring everything with me, without lugging a tower PC around. Same with spending around half the week at my girlfriends, having this little portable PC in my pocket allowed me to play so many things this year I just wouldn’t have had the time to otherwise! Even the form factor and the ‘instant restart’ from sleep has been monumental, as I’m normally so busy I don’t have the time or energy to sit down at the desk, but 20 minutes before bed, or with a bit of trash tv in the background (or a lecture 😬) it’s reignited my love for a hobby I’d been falling out of touch with. So Mr. Deck, thank you for 2023! The guides, reviews, recommendations have been a staple of my previous year, and I wish you all the best with what’s planned for 2024. You’ve made this one tired, overworked, stressed final year medical student’s year substantially better with your videos. Big love my friend. 👊
Currently in the middle of my good playthru #3 w/ Minthara at my side - BG3 was the GOTY for me on all platforms. So happy it won and still enjoying it for hours on end!
For my favorite game of the year, I will choose Sanabi (which I also played on the Steam Deck!). It's both sad and funny, and does both extremely well. Goes to the short list of games that actually made me cry (the other recent one being SIGNALIS). Fun and (mostly) smooth gameplay also.
lmao it took me a lot of time too to beat that helicopter in ac6 before i found out using melee is better and after that i just need only one try but i had to find the answer through google
My favorite this year was The Talos Principle 2. Great, challenging but but (almost) always fair puzzles, great story (my favorite since Disco Elysium). Have played it on a desktop PC, but it is Deck verified.
I played an obscene amount of indies this year to the point that outside of Holocure and Karryn's prison no one game seemed to be my most played Steam Deck game. Maybe Dave the Diver but i played a lot of that on my TV just because those graphics for the water environment was just amazing in 4k
I beat Sekiro on steam deck 💯 and it was my most celebrated game of the year. Such a great experience 60 FPS on Low settings and even 45 FPS on high🙌

What a list. I need to play more Hot Wheels
@FanTheDeck broci love hotwheels and hopefully u get it also try the other games they are phenomenal but they eat battery tho
@@FanTheDeck wild take what u mean? Did I do something?
@@zenyi1459No! That was meant to be a reply to the person that said Sea of Stars is bland haha. Deleted it. My bad!
@@FanTheDeck All good big homie
Cool Upload but ridiculous amount of adds, chill with that
Wait don't you work from home? How do you not have time? lol
I was playing gears 5 but went onto gta online 😂 can’t get off it 😅
If you told me last new year that I'd get a key for Fallout 76 in a humble choice then spend 900 hours completing all of the content in it, I'd have smacked the DMT pipe out of your hand...but that's what happened 🤷.
And I'm currently revisiting FFVII with duck station after last playing 20+ years ago on original console 😅
Robocop is definitely my game of the year. Hogwarts is number 2, mainly because it's a stuttery, unplayable mess on my PC, but runs great on the Deck.
All the other games I was looking forward to this year were massive disappointments (Forza being the biggest).
Apex legends
F the scammers and stop the ads!
Baldurs gate is wild 😂
Thanks Steam Deck. :). Happy New Year!!!
I am playing and loving the rhythm game Melatonin - beautiful aesthetics, intuitive gameplay, and lovely lofi tunes. The Deck has good sound quality through my headphones.
My favourite games were Witcher 3, blasphemous, Hallow Knight, Inscryption, and Onimusha.
Dave the diver. suprised me
How do? Its still on sale and thinking about picking it up now or waiting for a better sale. Sell me on it please!
I still haven't had a chance to try this in earnest 🤦♂️. I'm going to right that wrong this week.
@@MaximusOD12 sounds like a great addition to my collection. Thanks for the recommendation!
I got my steam deck in Sep of '23 and honestly I played mostly emulated games, gotta love the 3DS. Otherwise my next one would be spiderman or Hades
Hey Hollis! Here's Sonic:
Sonic Adventure 2 N7GDA-095KC-HYM29
Sonic Adventure 2 DLC WETA2-FLPWE-PAMAG
Enjoy! Maybe consider using my affiliate link next time you pick up something on Humble or Amazon. Thanks! 😅
@@FanTheDeck thank you so much. I almost always look at Humble through your links, next time I buy from them I will make sure to use your link.
Also thank you for all the wonderful Deck videos, your videos helped convince me to buy the Deck, I have been watching your channel since value released the Steam Deck. I have not regreted it one bit, has been so fun to have
@@hollis1223That makes me so happy! I'm glad I didn't lead you astray 😊
Bruh baldurgate 3 looks better on my deck than on my pc. It's optimized for deck really really well. And also i can DOCK IT to my TV. Some people are nuts.
Like A Dragon Gaiden I think might have been my game of the year. Short compared to mainline entries but still fun and works SO well on the Deck!
I beat days gone, sleeping dogs ,mafia definitive edition 123, bioshock 1 & 2, spiderman remastered
My game of the year was cyberpunk 2077 including the phantom liberty expansion
I have only actually finished two games on my Steam Deck so far, and they are The Last Campfire and The Last of Us Part 1. Both games I started and finished on the SD. I have played a lot of other games on my SD, but I have not finished any of the others, and most I have not even got all that far into them. Other games I have been playing on my SD include: Hogwarts Legacy, Dark Souls 1 & 3, Forza Horizon 5, Hades, Untitled Goose Game, Vampire Survivors, and Subnautica.
I've been rocking Octopath Traveler, Rocket League, and many Game Boy (Color) games on my Steam Deck this year
Yeah, BG3 is great on steamdeck :) ... surprisingly enough Mass Effect Andromeda is also good on steamdeck, I wish they fixed DA:I :/ ... also SWTOR works nicely for me if you play with input a bit - probably only MMO that somehow make sense to play mostly because it has that story based SP content Bioware is so famous for.
I played 100+ and finished 40+ games this year. It's fair to say the Steam Deck played a roll in that.
I’m playing Titanfall 2 and Mass Effect Legendary Edition.
Honestly BG3 has enough content to justify what I paid for just Act I alone. I see everything after that as a bonus.
Baldur’s Gate 3 almost feels like a completely different game when you play it on Steam Deck. Not in a bad way, it just feels very different.
Currently in the middle of my good playthru #3 w/ Minthara at my side - BG3 was the GOTY for me on all platforms. So happy it won and still enjoying it for hours on end!
9:26 yay hdr recording.... ughhh cant tell ya the number of times that's caused me some annoyance
Aside from RoboCop, I don’t like any of the games you mentioned.
I played Half-Life for the first time in 2023, and i have to say it's a masterpiece and easily in my top 5
One of my top games on the steam deck was Slime Rancher 2. It’s a lot of fun and relaxing for when I want to play before bed
can you please include stats like fps that would be very helpful
great vid tho and solid games!
You've got some great recommendations that I will for sure check out!
lmao it took me a lot of time too to beat that helicopter in ac6 before i found out using melee is better and after that i just need only one try but i had to find the answer through google
Blasphemous 2 was AMAZING on deck!
Hi, im commenting for a chance to win a steam key, i'd like anything.
Noice. Here's Borderlands 2 GOTY: 2BWN8-CWMT0-FR5AY
Enjoy! Maybe consider using my affiliate next time you pick something up from Humble or Amazon 😅
Thank you so much @@FanTheDeck, I wasn't expecting to win.
My favorite this year was The Talos Principle 2. Great, challenging but but (almost) always fair puzzles, great story (my favorite since Disco Elysium). Have played it on a desktop PC, but it is Deck verified.
I’ve been enjoying final fantasy 10 on the deck.
I played an obscene amount of indies this year to the point that outside of Holocure and Karryn's prison no one game seemed to be my most played Steam Deck game. Maybe Dave the Diver but i played a lot of that on my TV just because those graphics for the water environment was just amazing in 4k
Thank you for not using annoying background music.
I strongly recommend Moonstone Island!!!
Sea of Stars was the second best game of the year
