  • Ice Fishing Lake Trout still is likely my favorite species to chase through the ice, although they can be the most challenging at times they can also be the most rewarding. Often times you can think you have them figured out and with the snap of a finger they do something completely different. It's a species that keeps you guessing and guessing!

    I agree about letting someone know where you are, and if possible, fishing with a partner. Having gone through the ice three times(twice playing pond hockey, once fishing) its super important to be prepared for the worst.

    What type of braid do you use on your spinning setups for ice fishing Lake Trout? I can only find ice braid in about 50-yard spools here in Minnesota. I would usually be in a pop up with a heater, so could I use a summer type braid that come in larger capacity spools for Laker through the ice? Always enjoy your videos.

    Clayton, would love to see some footage on your process of switching baits, you mentioned it was slow so you worked through a number of baits. Do you have a sort of order you work through, or is it more dependent on current conditions? I find I usually have a set order I go through, but try and take into account any tips from local bait shops, etc.

    I’d really like to hear some discussion on reels. I’m getting into jigging, and looking at reels just gets me confused

    I’m amazed that first one popped off with that massive hook set! Got some hard mouths apparently!

      When they bite down hard on just the bait sometimes it's hard to get it to slip a little in their lips so you can set the hook.

    Interference on your flasher, is that from a scratched up transducer. Talk more structures.

      Not sure what was going on to be honest. Something with the water, was a brand new transducer.

    No need to apologize for a lack of fish. As a musky fisherman I know all about slow days 😂 I'm glad to see you back on the Lakers though Clay! MN season starts in 12 days and I'm super excited!

    What is the cause of that water under the snow

    • @ClaytonSchickOutdoors
      @ClaytonSchickOutdoors  2 роки тому +1

      Yup! Not enough ice and too much snow weighs the ice down and the water comes up the holes and cracks in the ice.

    First fish of the day you claim was that big boy but it looks like there's one laying on the ice next to your heater?? LOL trying to pull one over on us.
    Either way was a hell of a video and hell of a fish. I know alot of guys that say they will not eat lake trout. I personally love the taste.
