    Bring carter back. Love seeing an educated angler share knowledge and information with young guys that will keep the sport alive. People like you are why the sport will continue on. Would love to see more videos of you getting younger guys and women out. Us who enjoy the sport and fisheries love to see you keep the tradition alive. The younger generation and women are NEEDED to generate income to keep these fisheries alive.

      Thanks for the kind words.... I was running a Mr.Big Frostbite rod and a 2500 stradic reel with 30lb Powerpro super slick and 20lb fluoro leader :) Cheers!!

      Yes, usually 20-30lb for lakers through the ice :)

    This video got me fired up! I will complete my task of taking someone laker fishing in exactly one week! Lake Granby in Colorado. Not as epic as those Manitoba lakes, but one of the better lakes in Colorado. Mostly pups, but there are a few 36-42 inchers in there.

    You know, on a slow day if you want to make some content on you set up for cameras, lighting, power, etc.. I would bet money, you would get a TON of views on that vid. As a newbie trying to figure out my setup and make my first upload, I know I would save it, and study it over, and over!!!

    Love the videos great tips! I’m curious if you set up in 70ft cause that’s the depth you like on the shelf or was that the bottom of the shelf? You mentioned in goes into deeper water, 100 ft so! Did you mean the shelf your fishing goes one big drop all the way down to 100 ft and you picked 70ft to fish?

      I meant that there was some deeper water behind me... It was a very slow incline. but I was on a steeper break of the structure... I really like that 65-75 feet

    Hey Clayton, I’m setting up a new laker rod now, are there pro’s to spinning reels over bait caster style or were they just what you had handy?

      I prefer a spinning rod when I fish outside for sure... But I still like the spinning rods in the winter in general, less chances to freeze up. Sorry for the late reply :)

    Hey Clayton! Josh from Weyburn here. Love the channel you've been building. Your lake trout vids have encouraged me to go give it a try. Once this cold weather breaks I'm planning on go up to Caribou or Bakers. Are the lakes up there "truck accessible" or do I have to take a sled?

    Tip 4: have a sonar/flasher. It is maddening to try to cover 70+ feet of water blind. Question: do you fish barbed hooks in Saskatchewan? I have always been happy to go barbless here in Manitoba, even if it means losing the odd fish... especially when you get a treble hook deep down a pike’s gullet. Awesome video!

      You are right, and I fish barb-less a lot, all depends on what the fish are doing that day. Of course I fish barb-less wherever it's the law.
