Added the Black Slide to my TBR! I love adult horror, but there’s something about middle grade horror that reminds me why I fell in love with the genre in the first place as a kid
I feel like your channel should be getting 1 million plus views on every video. You are my favorite and so awesome. My boyfriend and I both love to read... He loves nonfiction and I love fiction. We are watching your horror vids to find a book we can read together.
@TheShadesofOrange I think YOU have it. I enjoy the look of the vids. You as a person and youtuber comes very natural. You don't come off as fake or over the top. It's like we are hearing a friend talk about books. Also your books you discuss aren't really discussed elsewhere on UA-cam. I prefer weird people or outcasts or people that are different. That last sentence is a huge compliment because I care less about being around people as I get older unless they are different. I feel like your soul is unique and it comes out in your vids. Based on this long and rambling comment I am weird too. My boyfriend and I will hopefully start a fiction book soon after we finish reading Wicca by Scott Cunningham. Most likely the book we pick will come from one of the books on this channel. Thank you for being an awesome person and having interesting tastes in books.
I think Black Mouth has been my biggest let down this year so far. I was SO hyped for it, I love Malfi. It just fell so flat for me and I didn’t connect with the characters really at all. I almost DNF’ed it but pushed through. It just didn’t hit for me. :/
Absolutely love your reviews, im currently reading Black Mouth, it's my first Malfi novel. On page 179 and waiting for more to happen, i do like it so far but it's slow paced.
Ive been getting more into graphic novels recently so ive taken a little hiatus from horror novels, but that book “anybody home” is a must buy for me. I dont scare easily at all and whenever someone says a book is genuinely uncomfortably scary, i need to read it. Would Love to hear your final thoughts on it after youve sat on it
I am looking forward to Black Mouth and The Black Slide. I haven't read anything by Hillier yet but I got her new release in my BOTM box so I will read it at some point. The Butcher sounds so good! I have had my eye on it for awhile.
I just read Black Mouth a few days ago. Felt the same as you. I enjoyed it but it didn’t match December Park which I’d read a few days previous, so I felt a bit let down. I’d still recommend it though. Think I’ll try Bone White next. Neil Stephenson is that author for me that never quite hits the mark even when he gets the ending done well.
I wanted to give Black Mouth a try, but I saw a content warning about animal abuse. How bad is it exactly? Could you give a rating, on a scale of 1-5, with 1 being not too bad and 5 being extremely bad? Lol this is LITERALLY the only thing I just can't stomach when it comes to horror books 😂
There is one scene in particular that I found very upsetting, it’s only like a page out of the whole book but I hated it. Animal abuse is a trigger for me too.
I’m not sure if you like doing this but… can you do more if you like this you could like this other book. Doesn’t matter if they are classic books, any genre, or new releases. I just find that interesting to combine new reads with books people may have forgotten about.
You Will Know Me was a DNF for me, mostly because it became painfully obvious that she didn't know much about gymnastics and hadn't done much research to fill in her knowledge. I won't bore everyone with the technical details since this is a writing/reading video and not a gymnastics video, but she described skills incorrectly and I didn't find her portrayal of the coach and his gym believable at all. Since I picked it up for the gymnastics, when that wasn't written well, I put it down.
I enjoyed Black Mouth. Especially the ending, it confirmed an element to the story that I was hoping was there... or at least it highly suggested said element? I haven't read enough Malfi to compare this with his other works. I loved Come With Me and Bone White, so for me this was on par.
I enjoyed “Black Mouth”. It was my first book by Ronald Malfi so that could be why I wasn’t disappointed. I gave it four stars because the animal cruelty was completely unnecessary to the story. It was also a bit too long. What book by Malfi would anyone suggest that I try next?
As far as loving an author but not having any of their books your favorite, this is Megan Miranda for me. I love her writing, I connect with it so much, how she explains people and feelings. Her book The Girl from Widow Hills was such an excellent commentary on what we expect from people whose tragedies we’ve seen play out in the media. It makes me sad when someone explains that book as just a girl who went sleepwalking as a kid and later as an adult and found a body, it’s SOOO much more than that. However, I’ve only been satisfied with one of her conclusions (currently reading Last to Vanish so hopefully that’ll make the two, I’m enjoying it so far). I really disliked Widow Hills answer, I also cannot connect to an idea like that at all. She does give you the pieces, she doesn’t come out of left field like some authors do, but it’s just never the loud conclusion like Jennifer Hillier has been so good at. I love Hilliers writing too, but if Megan Miranda had Hilliers plot twists and answers to the mystery I’d have so many favorite books by her! But if I had to choose, great writing or great twist, I’d pick great writing. I still always enjoy the journey of Megan Miranda’s books, I never feel like I’ve wasted my time.
I was like oh yea I just finished a Meghan Abbott book, went and looked and I just finished a Rachel Abbott book🤣 all these authors with similar names lol
You doing a really good job with the constant contents. Keep up the good work. I love your videos 😄💜
Oh thank you! I definitely takes so focus and planning to not skip weeks
@@TheShadesofOrange ayee it's okay to take breaks. We can always wait. Always take care of your health. 😄✨
Every one of your vids I manage to pick up a new book for my TBR list. It's growing to an alarming size lol
Thanks as always for the recommendations!
Haha sorry about that!
Added the Black Slide to my TBR! I love adult horror, but there’s something about middle grade horror that reminds me why I fell in love with the genre in the first place as a kid
I feel the exact same way
I always look forward to your videos!!! ☺️ You keep presenting books that seem to be interesting 🤔🧐 Titles that I didn't know were out. Thank you!!!
Thank you!
I love the premise of The Black Slide!
I know... so amazing!
I feel like your channel should be getting 1 million plus views on every video. You are my favorite and so awesome. My boyfriend and I both love to read... He loves nonfiction and I love fiction. We are watching your horror vids to find a book we can read together.
Aw thanks. I certainly don't have the video quality to warrant that matter subs
@TheShadesofOrange I think YOU have it. I enjoy the look of the vids. You as a person and youtuber comes very natural. You don't come off as fake or over the top. Oh I'm definitely getting The Black Slide! And I'm very interested in Anybody Home! ❤
I think I’ll put “anybody home?” on my TBR list. Thanks 😊
I fall asleep to your horror book reviews. haha! love the content!!
Haha happy to lull you to sleep 😴
Thanks for your recommendations, love your videos.😊
"Boys life" ❤ I loved that book.
I'm so looking forward to The Black Slide. JW Ocker is a favourite of mine as well, he's fantastic.
You too!?! Yes he's so awesome
Ahhh so happy that I found your account! This is the horror content that I need in my life 👻
Oh thanks! So happy we have similar tastes in creepy books
I think Black Mouth has been my biggest let down this year so far. I was SO hyped for it, I love Malfi. It just fell so flat for me and I didn’t connect with the characters really at all. I almost DNF’ed it but pushed through. It just didn’t hit for me. :/
Ugh thanks for validating my experience with it. I was let down for sure
You would love "Shadowdays" by Polly Schattel. Such a mindtrip.
Thanks for the recs
Great video.
Absolutely love your reviews, im currently reading Black Mouth, it's my first Malfi novel. On page 179 and waiting for more to happen, i do like it so far but it's slow paced.
Thank you... I hope Black Mouth works for you
@@TheShadesofOrange ordered more of his books
Love your channel even though our taste are not always perfectly aligned. You made me discover Malfi and I like you for it. 🎯
Oh thank you! Glad you enjoy my channel even when I have some unpopular opinions
Ive been getting more into graphic novels recently so ive taken a little hiatus from horror novels, but that book “anybody home” is a must buy for me. I dont scare easily at all and whenever someone says a book is genuinely uncomfortably scary, i need to read it. Would Love to hear your final thoughts on it after youve sat on it
Yeah I'm like you. I tend to be most terrified of "realistic horror" so this one was up my alley
I definitely want to read “The Black Slide” thanks for the recommendation!
I hope you love it
I am looking forward to Black Mouth and The Black Slide. I haven't read anything by Hillier yet but I got her new release in my BOTM box so I will read it at some point. The Butcher sounds so good! I have had my eye on it for awhile.
I hope you enjoy all of those!
The Black Slide is going on my tbr. I'm also in my 30s and a lot of my favorite books are middle grade, from Coraline to Artemis Fowl.
Artemis Fowl books are great.
Coraline & Artemis Fowl were SO good
Picked this up today on Audible
Anybody Home? sounds very interesting. Great recommendations once again!!
I hope you enjoy it!
Ahh yes it lacked the special sauce that made me love December Park... and I would actually agree with you about Neal Stephenson
I love Megan Abbott's books. I read DARE ME and THE END OF EVERYTHING, and thought they were both marvelous!
Loved Dare Me!
Bought The Last Storm last week. I've never read any Tim Lebbon so I'm interested to see how I find his stuff.
I hope you enjoy it!
Love your channel! You really inspire me to read more.
Side question: Did you ever work with Richard from are you into horror?
Thanks. And I don't think so. I don't do much collaboration
The Black Slide sounds so fun!
I would like to see a middle grade horror recommendation video
Working on it!

@@sh4577 Ok I'll probably just skip this one then! Thank you 😊
Yeah I was just gonna say you might want to skip this one. It's pretty intense
Great shirt. So pretty!
Thanks!
I think based on your recommendation I'm going to check out Jennifer Hillier's older book "Creep."
Oh yes that one is my favorite!
I'm adding The Black Slide and Anybody Home? to my TBR, they sound intriguing.
I hope you enjoy them
I’m not sure if you like doing this but… can you do more if you like this you could like this other book. Doesn’t matter if they are classic books, any genre, or new releases. I just find that interesting to combine new reads with books people may have forgotten about.
Oh yes I have some more horror ones coming this fall

Oh that's too bad! I know very little about the sport but I thought she had experience or at least did her research
Your description makes me want to read Black Mouth despite your own experience with the book. An evil kids' slide.🙂
I hope you love it!
I enjoyed Black Mouth. Especially the ending, it confirmed an element to the story that I was hoping was there... or at least it highly suggested said element?
I haven't read enough Malfi to compare this with his other works. I loved Come With Me and Bone White, so for me this was on par.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Home invasion is my number one non supernatural fear. You sold me on Anybody Home? I just have to get the courage soon. lol
Yeah it's intense!
My two favourites are December Park & Come With Me
I always wanted to read ronald malfi, what is the best book to start with rachel?
My personal favourites are December Park & Come With Me
Yes my favorite! If I’m not horrified, the book didn’t do it for me haha
Haha yes!
Ironically, the author that almost writes perfect horror for me, but so far has been just shy of the mark, is Ronald Malfi.
I love Malfi, but I could also see what he might be that for you
Great reviews.
Love your reviews
I know we both loved Twelve Nights at Rotter House so I definitely need to check out The Black Slide! Sounds like fun! 🗝
I hope you enjoy it!
Great video Im iffy with Black Mouth and I love author have you tried Hide and Seeker? Its middle grade I haven't yet
Oh I haven't heard of that MG horror novel
@@TheShadesofOrange you might like it its by Daka Harmon I think
Can I ask what did you think of In The Miso Soup? I'm just trying to gauge whether I can value your opinion or not lol
It's really messed up, so big content warnings. But as a story? Honestly I was a letdown... I think I only gave it 2.5 Stars
Will try "Black Mouth" . Always a fan of coming of age story.
I hope you enjoy it

Black Mouth is now totally on the list. You look lovely btw 🌸 will this do for home invasion? Lol🔪🔪🔪
Love the emojis
Jennifer Hillier is hit or miss for me. I wanna check out Ronald Malfi
Yeah I love her backlist but no always her new books
I was like oh yea I just finished a Meghan Abbott book, went and looked and I just finished a Rachel Abbott book🤣 all these authors with similar names lol
Oh yes I always confuse those two!
I'm actually really excited about The Black Slide, and I just turned 40. 😆🕳️ And I'm really intrigued about Anybody Home? 🏡👀👤
I hope you enjoy them!

Ooo love it!
More free books.
Have you read anything of Pierre Lemaitre?. He is a french thriller author.🥰
