I have never worked with beads. My daughter & i are making custom "faux" Victorian lampshades & i needed fancy tassels & found this video. You have a great gift at being an instructor/teacher because you love what you do. It's your craft & everyone can hear it makes you happy!! Thank you so much for the inspiration!! It's perfect to get us inspired & back on track!!! I'm gonna subscribe though. Now that I've found you, I wouldn't want to loose track of you! I think I'm gonna get the beads back out & give it another try!

Wow ! Beautiful tassels ! And what a nice aunt to generously give you her supplies. You generously took the time to make this tutorial and share your knowledge and I appreciate it. But, I am appalled at the people who criticize your nails ! It is beyond rude and in very poor taste ! Of all the nerve ! I just don't understand how or why some people are so judgemental and hateful to someone who is trying to do something helpful and generous ! I am so sad that there are so many rude and hateful people in the world and I hope you don't pay them any attention. I am grateful for you sharing your skills and talent with us.And your beautiful hands make beautiful things !

I came across your video as I was attempting to learn to make bookmark tassels using embroidery thread. I wanted to know how to add a charm and a wood bead. Your video is amazing and you are are gifted teacher. Your instructions were were real, not scripted. While I will adapt what I have learned from you to use my floss instead of wire, I want to tell you that the tassel you made was stunning and the colors perfect. All your work gorgeous. Thank you for sharing your time and talent. I will be using these techniques to make tassels on handmade pressed flower bookmarks.

I would suggest that you tie the bottom like you did the top so the bottom of the tassel is gathered so it's easier to work with, especially at the end when you're trimming the tassel!

  • @dawsie

To help the first tie off, wind the thread around twice and pull tight this has the affect of locking the thread so that you can then do the second tie off with just one wind around as normal and there you have a very tight tie off without the struggle of needing a second persons finger holding down the thread to do the 2nd tie off. I find this trick handy for many many things even when I do my shoe laces 😹😹😹
I hope this helps, ever since I learned this trick 10 years ago I have never had a problem again with any projects including my bead weaving 😸

Great video, you have an eye for design along with your ability to execute it. Well done.
If your thread has fold marks, you could always steam it, to straighten it. Just try not to allow it to get too wet. If your tassel machine is stainless steel I would do it while still on the machine. Otherwise, if all else fails. Unwind he amount of thread you are going to use and run it through steam from a boiling kettle. Just watch you don't burn your fingers. Another thought would be to pass it under a warm iron. A travel iron is perfect for that type of thing. I hope these suggestions help you in future.
Passing yarn through your wound thread. Double to thread, pass the two ends through the middle of your wound thread, then pass the two ends through the loop of the tying thread and knot it.
