The design of the arms/shoulders wasn't really thought out, they probably can't find a way to make it well articulated, look good, and not be too heavy to move the arms.
I will have to disagree a little bit with your final thoughts. yes, there are issues, but the kit is solid on the stand, and, being a zaku, it would make sense they would use the existing zaku frame, since it is still one of the best mg frames ever made. No real.point in making a new frame for what is essencially a zaku variation. Even so, it only uses about half the zaku 2.0 frame parts, not the whole thing. my main gripe with the kit is actually the hands, which I find simply horrendous. anyway, good review nonetheless
While Bandai does recognize the growing demand for Gunpla in the west, one of the primary reasons for the additional English in their manuals is more for the Asian market, as English is now the second most spoken language in Asia. There are also other notable kit lines that have English in their boxes and manuals, such as Iron-Blooded Orphans, Star Wars, and Dragonball Z.
@@ChrisTian-sd5yq that's just how the world works.. clear version cost double the price . anything just alittle different cost double the price . why you ask I don't know why maybe s0me people just have the loot for it
I found it to be a perfectly good kit but pretty underwhelming when compared to it's counterpart, the Full Armor Gundam Thunderbolt Ver Ka. I feel like the gate placement on all of the newly molded parts on the MS itself are better than the 2.0, but the backpack has some pretty gnarly nubs. The vinyl covers worked fine for me but they're so much less precise and interesting than on the full armor. At the end of the day it's still pretty awesome because the 2.0 is awesome. The arms on the backpack can hold the weapons better than the MS itself and look good while posing. In the anime the arms did fire the weapons by the way.
All kits have english now, it's a good fun thing. I don't mind the fact they used the 2.0 zaku frame _at all_. It's one of the best frames out there so i'm more than fine with it.
Sad to hear about the no-thumbs-up for this kit. Im still halfway through, but im actually enjoying it. I can foresee that this will be more of a brick than other recent MGs, but so far no issues for me. I crumpled the small vinyls on skewers and it worked perfectly. I just thought crumpling it up on the "cable frames" is a bad idea considering the irregular curved nature. The arm vinyls i also crumpled on a gundam marker and i have more control on how much crumple lines i put into it. The Zaku II 2.0 frame was a great frame, so despite making another one it didnt really bother me that much. I gotaa admit though, i was expecting a 3.0 frame for this when it was announced, so maybe we'll get that on a Master Grade Char Zaku The Origin? I love the proportions on the HG Char Zaku The Origin version and the swivel on the sides of the torso, so hopefully that gets a 3.0 treatment. If anything, i really was really excited as i built this one's frame to see what was different. That said, im really looking forward to your MG of the year video. Freedom 2.0 and Full Armor Gundam Thunderbolt are fantastic kits. Just a little sad that the Psycho Zaku cant make the decision more difficult for you. Hahahaha! Cheers Jabman! 2017 looks like a win for us 100-scale collectors, only a few weeks into this year and we already have a bunch of 100-scale kits to look forward to! :)
I have this kit, painted the red parts with Rustoleum Gloss Colonial Red and it's amazing... The rest of the model I painted using Tamiya spray paints (don't prime any parts of the model) and the kit came out fantastic.
Thanks for actually being honest. I thought the kit was way over the top in a bad way. I still have to make the full armor Gundam MG. The zaku hg was enough of a pain.
the best way I found to do the sleeves is (just like the thunderbolt) use something cylindrical to put the sleeves on then wrinkle. For the small ones I used a detail brush, for the big ones it was a sharpie. So long as it is the right size and you do it slowly it is less likely to rip
I think we could make do with those sleeves if we replace them with the paper container for straws. Just color them brown and use them. If they get ripped, replace them with another paper straw.
yeah English instructions gives me hope that bandai might be warming up to us. then they pull some shit like releasing a pbandai MG Endless Waltz Heavyarms :/

Pablo944T Wing wasn't popular at the time of airing in Japan. Bandai doesn't really care how well certain series do outside of Japan. So I think we should be lucky with what we have and that we're at least getting Premium Bandai releases for some of them. xxnike629xx we are lucky that we are getting premium releases? Dude most wing gundam ew kits have not been p-bandai until recently and the ones we got are retools of already existant kits wing is popular MG wing wise cause why else would it have so many MG's out?
Great review as always Jabman. Such a shame for suit that you root for in the anime, it's quality doesn't match up to the rival full armor gundam thunderbolt. Anyways will you eventually do another favorite top 5 kits? Looking forward to see your kit of the year and episode 3 of the live stream.
6:28 If they stopped there this would be some what realistic, but this thing fully loaded would be about as nimble as a cargo ship. This and the deep striker are might as well have been star ships. To me it always looked like someone shoved a space shuttle up its ass.
ghostofzeon has a really good tutorial on how to do the thunderbolt style cables. another alternative is to wrap them in wire and dip them in plasti-dip. available at most hardware stores.
Correction to your statement about it being 90% zaku 2.0 while the parts are similar they aren't quite the same a lot of the joints for the arms legs are skeletonized and less detailed due to the plastic coverings that go over it. But yeah it's very similar to 2.0
So sad you couldn't give it a thumbs up. But, since I don't have a Zaku and this one looks insane I'll still buy one. And maybe an FA to keep it company.
Couple problems I had were getting the legs to attach into the waist and getting the middle tank to stay on also did anyone manage to get the cockpit to reopen cause mine is jammed shut
I have a 1/144 Hg of this. Based on this review, I will plan on strengthening the right arm to hold up the beam bazooka. I don't know how to do it yet....but its the plan. Otherwise, I'll have to glue that arm. Thanks jabab025! Pre-warned is pre-armed.
Did you ever try to tighten up the shoulders and elbows and wrists for maybe being able to hold the giant bazooka? I find that on any kit with giant weapons that the joints all need to be tightened. Some joints more or less than others. But it’s the only way if you want it to hold it’s weapons or poses.
I love most mobile suite designs, reguardless if they are gundam, grunt, or zeon. All three are awesome....the only exception when it comes to the design of a mobile suite is when it has a lot of crap off its back like the thunderbolt line seems to have a fetish for. I doubt anyone can have it on an action base one with the connection to the lower waist because the peg/ball joint connecting the torso and the waist would BREAK. Hell, it needs all those thrusters to make it go forward instead of spinning since all of the mass of the kit is in the backpack. Is it wrong that I LOVE the 2.0 gundam and zaku(J type) because they look so amazing yet don't complicate everything?
Jabman, have you changed your opinion on the psycho zaku? I have seen other reviews saying that it is great, so I don’t know whether to get this or not. And compared to the FA Gundam Thunderbolt Ver. Ka, which one is better? Some people say the Full armor is better while others say the zaku is better.
Love the review. I just bought this kit and have read the manual book to familiarizing me before I start to build it. Seems I can't find the position for decal (marking) number one (1) in the book. The lowest decal number I can find is number two (2). Can you help me? Thank you
just looked at the manual, I don't see a 1 either, it has been a while since I built this one but I'm going to guess that it is just a bonus add on which is not unheard of. They look to be just standard warning labels.
When I first heard "Zaku Ver. Ka", I did a double take and almost sprained my wrist grabbing for my wallet. Having now seen that they just took a Johnny Ridden custom 2.0 and added a wonky backpack, I'm glad I couldn't bring myself to part with the cash for it. I was seriously hoping for a totally new kit that really pushed the envelope of what Gunpla could be :/
Nice review. I expected this to be more of a looker kit than a poser. Surprised there were so many issues with the vinyl covers. Were they just not staying in place or they split down their seams? Looking forward to the best MG of 2016. Not many contenders to choose from.
wow I was going to buy this cause I wanted to buy a "3.0" Zaku High mobility type but to think that its just 2.0 with a little difference apart from the back pack stuff is sad to hear.
Jabman I like your videos a lot but in the last few videos it seems your lighting is coming from behind and is making it really hard to see details for the kits.
I'd like to have the Beam Bazooka for my customized High Mobility Zaku, but it's not worth buying a kit I don't want for it. I think my Zaku could hold it. I use the cellophane from the parts trees to stiffen up the joints and make them more sturdy. But again, not worth buying the whole kit just for one weapon.
I was thinking of getting this kit further down the road but I'll probably pass now because I thought prior to watching this that the Zaku was mostly new not a 2.0 rehash. Oh well, there's always the ZZ ver.ka to look forward to :)
You don't need to put anything on them if you don't want to. Seelers/Softers/Setters help but they're optional. Most of this stuff is just to make sure that they don't accidentally rub/scratch off while handling the kit.
Sushiyoda you should.apply top coat to your decals so they are protected, especially.if you're not gonna paint your kit. in fact, you should apply topcoat before the decal,.because they adhere really bad to bare plastic, apply the decals then give it another topcoat for protection
matte spray, glosse spray, satin spray, too coats help if you dont want to add all the extra bs that most require you to put. ive had my nu gundam ver ka displayed for 4 years now and none of the waterslide decals have flaked off and all i added was a few coats of matte spray.
This kit cost the same as the Sazabi ver ka and I still prefer the sazabi because it has a lot of gimmicks build in the kit not like the psycho zaku. Like you said it just another 2.0 HM zaku.....it might looks rediculous but for me it just meh...
I still bought it knowing it was gonna be a brick kit. Gundam Thunderbolt was just that good. Also that gold looks like shit so I'll be painting that. I'll figure out a way to get that beam bazooka to hold up. XD
You mean to tell me after Bandai built a brand new kit with the Full Armor Gundam that they cheaped out when building this thing? That's horrible. I was considering buying this but now I think I'll keep my money for something else
Thankfully the redonkulously oversized middle thruster/full tank does not have to be used. It's the one thing I hate about the animation version of the Psycho Zaku. It looks so much better with the two thrusters like the manga has.
jabman025 I've only built 8 mg models. Would you recommend me this? My favorite is the hyaku shiki mg. it was complicated not hard and nothing is loose and quite sturdy unlike RX-93 gundam and Unicorn gundam.
I feel like I called it a while back. Bandai focused on the backpack primarily and the actual mobile suit was a afterthought. Seriously, a 2.0 Zaku as the base? And lord and behold it's the one I despise the most. I'm glad I have no plans on picking this up. By the way Jabman, got any plans of picking up the MG GM Sniper II?
Dang.. How would you even display this on your shelf? If you face it forward you cant appreciate the massive backpack with all the extra crap put into it, it would be such a waste and if you display it with it sides facing forward you cant see the zaku. i dont even think there are shelves deep enough to house this thing. :O
i never appreciated the psyco zaku backpack from the anime... thought it was all propellant tanks... never knew it carried a shit ton of weapons as well...
They really botched the pipes. The original model they were showing off looked like you were going to get then molded but what we got was a disaster for the piping covers.
I hate how the white looks on this kit. Doesnt really go well with the color scheme I think. As for the Master Grade of the year I guess its going to be an easy video to make since there were only like what 3 MGs this year?
I had no issues with the tubing on my kit. I love the look to be honest
Given all the plastic here I gotta ask, why cant' we have a MG Kshatriya?
El Blaise how big would that be? maybe half the size of the neo zeog
the binders would be to heavy,
The design of the arms/shoulders wasn't really thought out, they probably can't find a way to make it well articulated, look good, and not be too heavy to move the arms.
they probably make it re/100 like the nightingale
They could design the binders like the oo raiser. The shoulder gn drives lock so they can hold still

If ur not impressed can I buy the pre-built kit off you?
Try positioning that Beam Bazooka into firing position maybe it will stay.
just build the gundam thunderbolt, didn't like those damn sleeves......so I think i will pass on the zaku!!!!
nice review though!!!!
...pity.....now about that GM sniper 2 MG
Ditto!!!
i never appreciated the psyco zaku backpack from the anime... thought it was all propellant tanks... never knew it carried a shit ton of weapons as well...
Did you see that episode of gunpla tv where Syd offered a solution for threading the thinner vinyl sleeves?
122 master grades!?!? that's like 24x5+2
I would get this if it doesn't have the giant middle thruster and giant beam bazooka
Thanks for honest review.
I agree with you
They really botched the pipes. The original model they were showing off looked like you were going to get then molded but what we got was a disaster for the piping covers.
Instant like
I hate how the white looks on this kit. Doesnt really go well with the color scheme I think.
As for the Master Grade of the year I guess its going to be an easy video to make since there were only like what 3 MGs this year?
How the fuck does it reach back there to grab those weapons stored on the propellant tank. I'm getting images of a dog chasing it's tail.
+Monsterist76 those Arms Reach a fair distance I don't think it would be a problem
