    Ive got a matt finish Scott--there is a lot of matt finished bikes now and putting traditional car wax on it was a terrible idea--ive used chemical guys matt cleaner which left a ton of streaks..then went to muckoff which works with no streaks but is just a cleaner--would love to see followup video with spray wax on matt finish to protect instead of just cleaning--matt finishes are not smooth and i dont know if your wax would leave streaks like car waxes..thanks

    How does the detox cleaner interact with wet lubes in general and Synergetic in specific?

    • @SILCAVelo
      @SILCAVelo  Рік тому +2

      It will lift and remove oils including synergetic, but it rinses totally cleanly so that there is no contamination of the remaining lube, and it will not creep down into chain rollers or behind bearing seals like many degreasers will. The goal with this product is to clean off the drivetrain and brakes, eliminate brake squeal, and then leave the drivetrain clean enough that you can apply lube right after cleaning. If you chain is really in bad shape and you want to deep clean it, you would want to start the process with a true degreaser, and the safest way to do that is to remove the chain entirely and soak.

      @@SILCAVeloDoes spraying the detox product over the derailleurs do anything unwanted? If yes, can it be counteracted? I just finished my first bike bath and never had an easier time with everything. Just worrying about it get into where it is not supposed to…

    Which of these would be best to shed mud during a cross race? Curious after the latest podcast.

    • @SILCAVelo
      @SILCAVelo  Рік тому

      Ideally you want to use both... I put down 3-4 layers of the graphene wax as a base coat and protectant, and then a wipe with the ceramic cleaner after each ride, but for CX you could do the wipe before the race.. you will feel the difference in slipperiness of the painted surface in your cloth after applying the ceramic cleaner/wax.. it leaves an incredibly slick surface that sheds mud very nicely.

  • @ProffessorSeen1

    Sounds like a great product. Interested to see what Adam at friction facts has to say first about the efficacy. Sounds similar to ceramic speed ufo clean.

    • @SILCAVelo
      @SILCAVelo  Рік тому +4

      No, the closest thing we have to UFO clean is our bio-degreaser, which is a super safe, and neutral degreaser, much moreso than UFO, but also doesn't clean quite as aggressively as UFO. The brake/drivetrain cleaner is optimized for spraying onto the bicycle, so it's targeted as brake dust and surface oils, but it quite thick and will not wick or penetrate into hubs or even into the inside of your chain. The idea here is to clean your drivetrain without risk to bearings or other components and without any risk to wax.

    Do you think you will one day release a ceramic coating for bicycles?

    • @SILCAVelo
      @SILCAVelo  Рік тому +2

      3-4 coats of our Graphene infused spray wax will rival the best ceramic coatings, but is much easier to apply. We actually developed a true ceramic coating for this product line with one of the finest producers worldwide, but in testing found that it was extremely frustrating for people to apply properly. These coatings can be difficult even on simple surfaces such as auto body due to the short time available for the haze and buff step of the application. As a result, many of our testers, including pro mechanics were routinely struggling with application on bare frames and were just incredibly frustrated in trying to apply to built bicycle frames where there are just so many areas that are so hard to buff properly. Our Graphene wax will achieve 9H hardness in 3-4 coats, which rivals the top ceramic top coat products, but does so in a very simple wipe and buff process which is far faster and more forgiving than a heavy solvent based ceramic wax coat. Using the SiO2 infused waterless wash and wax over top of the graphene wax will also leave an 8H coating over top of the 9H coating plus adds surface lubricity that reduces dust and dirt buildup and makes cleaning faster and easier.

    • @longstretch
      @longstretch Рік тому

      @@SILCAVelo that's great! I am familiar with the tediousness of coatings as I have done it a few times. What's the longevity like with 3 to 4 layers?

    • @longstretch
      @longstretch Рік тому

      I know typical spray on coatings last 6-12 months are you guys seeing similar results?

    • @SILCAVelo
      @SILCAVelo  Рік тому +1

      Yes, 6-12 months is reasonable depending on conditions. Using wax friendly soaps and degreasers will help as will using a product like our Step4 waterless wash with ceramic, that product leaves an 8H hardness coating of SiO2 on top of the graphene coating that is quickly and easily replenished

    You mention 3 oz in 5 gallons for the bike wash, I would never have to use that much water . Is there a ratio you recommend for a smaller bucket of water?

    • @SILCAVelo
      @SILCAVelo  Рік тому +2

      I'd just do an ounce in 2 gallons or something like that.. if you use warm water you can get it to mix at really high concentrations, but if you use cold water it just won't fully mix and you'll find some residue in your bucket.. after a time or two you'll get the feel for how much to use for your amount of water and water temperature.

    Are these products biodegradable / environment friendly?

    • @SILCAVelo
      @SILCAVelo  Рік тому +1

      Yes, the only one that isn't completely environmentally friendly is the brake/drivetrain cleaner. It's orders of magnitude better than any other brake cleaner you can find out there, but for the job at hand it just can't be made any safer. On the upside, after it reacts fully, it is neutralized and safe to wash down the drain.

    Can I use the bio-degreaser to clean my chain before rewaxing
    Bio-degreaser then 99% isopropyl alcohol then rewax?

    • @SILCAVelo
      @SILCAVelo  Рік тому +4

      I would use bio-degreaser to remove factory grease. Once you are converted to wax you want to use Brake/Drivetrain cleaner when you are cleaning the chain on the bicycle.. and then if you are hot waxing or deep cleaning the chain, you can just throw it in boiling water to completely strip it back to clean. This is one of the biggest advantages of the wax system.. after the initial deep clean, you won't need solvents to clean anything in the future!
