Say what you want about eTrailer. No matter what I ordered, they never shipped me anything that disappointed me. So far, from them, I've gotten two trailer hitches, two light controllers, one receiver-mount cargo rack. All top quality and great customer service!
I'm still trying to wrap my mind around using used motor oil for the deck. Sure does eliminate using the trailer for hauling anything like furniture. Should have coated all sides of that wood before bolting down. The bare wood on sides and bottom will absorb water and finally rot. Most of us don't have a sawmill worth ten or more times what the trailer would brand new. Nice mill! Love the idea of using the bed-liner for paint. Better than powdercoating
Buy treated lumber. That way the wood lasts you 5 years plus no matter if you only put oil on the top part. I use rustoleom paint to help keep rusting to a minimum.
Adding my 2 sense worth, I would replace the toe boards. On the front and back with 1/4 inch x 2" strap. It will be a lot tougher and probably outlast the trailer. Also it would have a slimmer profile.
Better the overspray gets on the driveway than the house or car (don't ask). I see a lot of people use a skinny board in the middle of trailer decks, but if you have the lumber, better to saw 2-3 of the other boards slightly narrower so a wide board can fit in the middle. Those skinny boards are always the first to break or rot out.
It sure turned out nice. Everyone buying online anymore. I remember there used to be a store here in Mesa, near 'downtown', that used to sell all sorts of trailer parts and supplies. I went there once to get a trailer hitch lock, so no one can hitch to your trailer and steal it while your back is turned.
I use something similar. Its 25% oil and 75% diesel. I call it snake-oil and i use new oil. I'm not a fan of the dark look. And i do all sides of the hard maple even the ends.
Explain to Kelly that this is an opportunity for her to learn how to use a pressure washer and then run quickly away. Lol. Trailer looks great by the way.
You need an extra wheel hub stored in that box (greased real well and covered), always hated when a bearing went out and the hub was frozen, needed too be replaced along side the road..
Could you please link me to that front box you used? I found those new ez latch couplers you used on new trailers....can't wait to fit my older trailer with one.
LOL At the overspray on the driveway. My wife tells people I am a great painter, every thing within reach is the same colour or at least has some splatter. Great coverage is my game.
You do most things yourself, I try do the same. Pulled 300 ft 1in blk pipe out of well... By hand, the last 15 ft was as heavy as the first 298. My repair was better job than the wellman.
Everything looks good except the used Rotela. I think that messed it up. White oak is naturally weather resistant. I'd have just left it alone or added something more natural. Other than those minor points and the over spray on Kelly's driveway everything looks good bud. Lol
Used oil is great as a preservative. I've got 20+ year old trailer decks that look great with once a year oiling. What's more natural than dinosaur juice?
G'day from downunder Troy. Another great video mate keep up the good work. Did you spray the underside of the trailer? You could have lifted the hitch with your bucket (obviously chained together) and had plenty of room to spray underneath
I love your channel. The problem that I had with this video was, that by the time that I read the printed explanation at the bottom of the screen, the scene was over and I didn't get to watch the action. Could be that a voice-over might be more user-friendly to watch, rather than printed captions. IMO... Or maybe this old grandma from Ohio just missed hearing your voice and sense of humor!
Well, a ten-minute video... haha. Here I somehow thought it this would be some kind of fantastical rebuild speed run. Not sure how I thought that'd be possible. Ha. Nice video. I need to rebuild parts of my trailer after both exposure and an apparent accident.
@@RedToolHouse my oversight & ignorance. I assumed it would be the color of my grease. The RED stuff. When I took my recently purchased hubs the grease was dark. I just thought it was super dirty never being changed for 20 years!! Thanks, I can rest more comfortably now knowing you are spinningsmooth
@@RedToolHouse brilliant addition. So it can sit out in the rain with more piece of mind? Nice hack. Glad you used old oil, too. Cost saving & effective!
Why didn't you make the front and side rails higher to the height of 3 feet? With higher trailer sides, you can haul high profile stuff like furniture, bed mattresses and box springs, refrigerators, freezers, and other stuff securing them to the sides during travel. You had a welding machine, it wouldn't take you long to extend the rail height. That way, the trailer becomes a much more utilized trailer. Your trailer is very limited in carry design the way it stands.
I can do that easily with wooden rails and not have to alter the trailer frame. Having a utility trailer with tall side rails would be problematic for other uses.
Well, that is a tough question as it was several years ago and I worked on it when I had the chance. As for the products, they didn’t cost me anything as it was a partnership with the producers of the products in exchange for exposure on the channel.
Looks like you had a good project to work on and did a great job, however, I gave this video a thumbs down due to not enough information for anyone wanting to refinish their own trailer. Like what kind of paint and what we’re in those cans that you added and was that sand or something else? I’m glad everyone enjoyed the video but I feel like I just wasted 10 minutes.
That video summarized a 9 video playlist that details every step we took. I can never give you your 10 minutes back but I can waste more of your time watching the details Utility Trailer Rebuild ua-cam.com/play/PLFy2Uo6h0p7pDCDZ8Qva2OCDo7EVbdj0M.html
Only thing I would have done differently is painted the entire driveway
🤣🤣🤣
Lmao
Or apply the sealant to the bottom of the boards as well
No worries……..The neighbors were on vacation.

So far, from them, I've gotten two trailer hitches, two light controllers, one receiver-mount cargo rack. All top quality and great customer service!
Kelly wasn't mad she was just disappointed. LOL. Good news is you can paint the rest of the driveway and just say you resurfaced it.
I'm still trying to wrap my mind around using used motor oil for the deck. Sure does eliminate using the trailer for hauling anything like furniture. Should have coated all sides of that wood before bolting down. The bare wood on sides and bottom will absorb water and finally rot.

The oil is an old school thing, works very well and you have to do something with burnt oil anyway.
Im no pro, but I’ve seen this technique used many times. And I’ve only seen the top coated on most of them.
Oil is great thing to use, I’ve used it for everything from fence post to tr decking for 45 yrs
Buy treated lumber. That way the wood lasts you 5 years plus no matter if you only put oil on the top part. I use rustoleom paint to help keep rusting to a minimum.
Great video. I’m restoring an old trailer right now and have never done anything like this before so was looking for tips 👍
Adding my 2 sense worth, I would replace the toe boards. On the front and back with 1/4 inch x 2" strap. It will be a lot tougher and probably outlast the trailer. Also it would have a slimmer profile.
That was one of my favorite videos, when you primed the driveway and watching Kelly see your masterpiece. Lol 😆
Happy to report there is no evidence of primer now on the driveway. Told her she overreacted!
@@RedToolHouse lol
@@RedToolHouse I'm sure she appreciated your saying that. 😳

Might just be your best video ever... Decent background audio... Great photography... All was terrific except the video was missing Kelly.
That was a real welder right there he had the blue pearl snap on I would trust him
fine looking trailer
Nice grey driveway Troy. lol. Don't worry, you do just like me. I always forget about those things. Keep the good work.
Love the concrete and tires great primer job

I went there once to get a trailer hitch lock, so no one can hitch to your trailer and steal it while your back is turned.
Nonetheless, nice job on painting the concrete. Real talent and skills right there let me tell ya.
I mix my motor oil with diesel 50/50 , it seems to penetrate the wood better and not too dark. I call it my HWP ( Hillbilly wood preservative)
I use something similar. Its 25% oil and 75% diesel. I call it snake-oil and i use new oil. I'm not a fan of the dark look. And i do all sides of the hard maple even the ends.

may i ask what's that powder you add .. thanks
Did you take the tires off and paint the inside of the wheel wells? Nice looking paint job...
The only thing i would have done differently is paint underneath and in the wheel wells, otherwise great job
I'd of carriage bolted the end of the deck boards one run up and stitch welded angle iron over the tail end.
You need an extra wheel hub stored in that box (greased real well and covered), always hated when a bearing went out and the hub was frozen, needed too be replaced along side the road..
Very nice job on the trailer.
I used Rustoleum and a foam roller on my trailer. Less paint on the concrete and more paint on the trailer.
Painting the driveway that’s funny!
Don't worry about the gray driveway....My hair is gray and I like it!
Could you please link me to that front box you used? I found those new ez latch couplers you used on new trailers....can't wait to fit my older trailer with one.

You left me speechless!
LOL At the overspray on the driveway. My wife tells people I am a great painter, every thing within reach is the same colour or at least has some splatter. Great coverage is my game.
Nice job. I have a trailer needing some overhauling and a hickory tree that needs to come down…hmmm. Darlington, SC
milling ur own lumber... damn! that's cool AF!
what was your bed liner mixture? I know it was Line X, and then paint thinner, but what was the bag of stuff at the end you put in?
What was the name of that tune, kind of jazz? It was playing while you were mixing the red paint and adding grit.
It is open source music from UA-cam.
You do really good work!
Congratulations!
Where did you get that jack that you used at 8:55 in the video? Looks like a motorcycle jack. Thanks.
That is my craftsman motorcycle jack from the days when I had a street bike

Another great video mate keep up the good work. Did you spray the underside of the trailer? You could have lifted the hitch with your bucket (obviously chained together) and had plenty of room to spray underneath
Yes. Any horizontal surfaces I sprayed underneath but there aren’t many as the orientation of the angle iron makes mostly verticals.

Actually debated both option for a while. Probably would have been better with voice

Should of treated the wood before installation, would of done all 4 sides , and ends … looks really good now though
👍👍👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Curious, why not bed liner on the boards?
Was concerned the expansion and contraction of the wood would cause the coating to come off.
What brand of sprayer is that?
Earlex HVLP. Don’t make this one anymore. It is about 15 years old
Good video
My driveway is metallic blue, just like my Chevy II.
Beautiful overspray 😂
How was the cost compared to buying a new one?
Retail price on all the items from etrailer were less than $500. Hate to think what it would cost to put a new wood deck on a 13foot trailer now.
So, it would be well worthwhile . .
@@johnjones4643 you are right about that
Out of curiosity, why was the rust painted over?
Unless that primer serves more than one purpose….
Dang, it'd take me a lot longed than 10 mins to do all that.
Knew this was gonna be some serious sh!t when I saw him w/ the chainsaw in the woods… like, “oh, it’s like that?” 😳
No cleaning/inspecting wheel bearings/races and spindle with freshly packed grease??

Yeah, I have a creek crossing to get to my farm so I figured each time I come and go I am putting water in the hubs. They were only $20 more I rhink

How much money and time do you got into this wreck?
Wreck?!? She’s a beauty! What is time when you are building a masterpiece? Did da Vinci keep looking at the sundial when he painted the Mona Lisa?
It's a beauty but how much time and money do you have for the outcome?

Man after all that you gotta ahoq it off a little more than just a single shot.
You missed a spot on the axle
i noticed that, too, though once the bed boards were installed you never see that part of axle again.... but water off of wet roads, etc, sure will.
the entire trailer will be dust before that axle rusts in two.
How many babies resulted from this project? Neighbor wives included of course.

disagree with the used motor oil on the wood otherwise nice job

Are you for real , how would rebuild a trailer in 10 minitues, give the throught
The video lasted 10 minutes. Not the build itself. Surprised I would need to point that out.
