Abby needs to get a life and be thankful she can afford to go on a cruise. I spent 31 days in an inside cabin and used the tv for my outside view and was happy and grateful.
No kidding.. I am grateful to just be on vacation...I try not to look for things to make me upset. But, perhaps being indignant makes her happy? 🤷

Have to say we usually book an inside and love our cruise - we are sailing 47 days on several cruises all in interior cabins (thus able to cruise so much).
23+ years in the Navy and always had an 'inside' cabin on deployments of 8 or 9 months duration. Great sleeping during daylight hours.

Please please please STOP saying people are "LEFT BEHIND" when they miss the ship. It implies the fault lies with the cruise ship/Captain. The ship/captain has a responsibility to the thousands of passengers who managed to get back to the ship on time. Obviously the couple were in the wrong..but they were NOT LEFT BEHIND. They missed the boat. Period.

I am 76 years old. I have taken 31 cruises. I don't feel the ship should wait for me more than for anyone else.

Tony - don't feel sorry for them! They are the SAME people who got left behind LAST MONTH in Africa on an Island. They are from UTAH, and "Let's Go Travel Tips" recognized their names. They are making a habit of blaming someone else. Allison on Let's Go Travel Tips said something to the effect of "Those people should ONLY take shore excursions from the ship!"

On QM2 a couple of years ago during a medical evacuation off the south coast of England the helicopter was approaching and as is normal all the exits are secured and no one is allowed on the outside decks.
One lady [maybe it was her] was loudly complaining that blackout curtains had been lowered, because she couldn't see anything, my wife reminded her it was night time but she insisted it was the curtains.
Just one of those moments I guess.

On our first cruise in 2004, the captain came on the PA just before we docked in Nassau and stated that we would be able to disembark within the hour. THEN he reiterated the cruise line policy of leaving on time and state EMPHATICALLY that you would be left behind if you were not on the ship at the published time for all aboard. As we pulled away from the dock that afternoon, my husband and I saw about 10 “pier runners” frantically charging down the pier. They were left behind. It ABSOLUTELY made an impression on us and we have never even come close to being late getting back after 32 cruises.
Her balcony is not obstructed.
My dad used biofuel in his diesel truck, and it smelled like French fries, but it worked great. Congratulations, Holland America, for attempting this.

No she does not have a leg to stand on. That is not an obstruction. It sounds like she feels if she yells loud enough she will get her trip for free or highly discounted. Tony as always thank you for what you do. I’m over here in Trinity and am readily awaiting my Bermuda trip in July on Celebrity.

Why is it that nobody expects an airplane to wait for latecomers, but they think a crew ship will wait?
Abby reminds me of the story of the passenger who went to guest services right after boarding to complain that they booked an ocean view cabin and all they could see from their window was the parking lot.
Some people actively seek out things to complain about - usually in hopes of getting a refund or some other consideration they are not entitled to. That is NOT an obstructed view.
There's NO obstruction what-so-ever. My wife and I have been in balcony rooms, we look "out" when on the balcony, NOT down.
While I agree that that's NOT an obstructed balcony, I do like to look down when we are facing the port side (think pier runners.... that's a lot of fun), but as I said, that's not considered obstructed.

Wow! There is no way I would consider that to be an obstructed view. By that measure, the wooden rail at the top of the balcony plexiglass would be an obstruction.
A cruise ship leaves when it's time to leave? Shocker. Just because it might've left late the day before does not mean that this is their norm.
You either show up on time or you're left behind. I don't really see the confusion of these people. They've cruised before, they know the rules.
The day before there may have been a ship-sponsored guaranteed excursion that they had to wait for.
Ships wait as long as planes and trains will wait for passengers. They don't.

I’m 74 and taking my first cruise ever next March. I’ve signed up for cruise ship sponsored excursions only. The one port I’m not taking an excursion I plan on just checking the beach and town out. No way would I want to be left behind! And the ship should only wait for excursion buses if they are late, not private excursions.
Enjoy your cruise!!! Make sure you have a watch that is set to Ship Time. People do sometimes get tripped up if they have smartwatches - if you take your phone off airplane mode, it will synch to local time, and then so will your smart watch. Local time and ship time are not always the same! If you're careful about that kind of thing, you should be absolutely fine. I hope you have a wonderful trip!

@@halpen When going ashore, I determine how many hours before the ship will leave, then set a timer on my phone as a back up. Timer set to get me back to ship with an hour to spare.

We are longtime cruisers and I just can't think of a better way. You always need your cruise card on you but I'm not carrying around a wallet or purse. Simple equation for me. 🤷♀️

All aboard time means "be back ON BOARD by" ... seasoned cruises know this. Sad, but that is reality of cruising
Seasoned cruisers should also know that calling a friend is for a game show, not for a cruise! They could have called the number provided by the ship for such purposes, but even that is no guarantee the ship will wait.

That lady is nuts! That is not an obstructive balcony! That is magnificent view. If it was a solid balcony without glass, I could understand. But that’s usually explained by your travel agency before you purchase the balcony. And her case, she’s full of it. That is a perfectly great balcony view.

I have been cruising for more than 30 years and about 500 sea days and my biggest gripe is the late pier runners. If they are late but still able to get on the ship, give them a fine!

We were one of the first group to do a Cave tubing adventure in Belize, there was about 50 of us with no one from Carnival with us and we were over 1 1/2 hours late, we said they are going to have 50 people missing and will not leave without us, but we were not sure because we had no way of contacting the ship, they waited, You should try the cave tubing, it was great.

Just an FYI as I found this statistic unbelievable. On our Carnival Cruise this past week we were at the diamond Platinum party. They recognized an elderly man who has cruised 1575 days. All I can say is wow!!!

I worked for a TV station that owned a complete set of Gilligan's Island episodes on film. Why? Whenever there was a programming schedule problem of any kind at all, one of those old Gilligan reels got dusted off.
We have stayed in a Jr. Suite and a Cloud 9 Suite. According to this lady, all the Suites have an obstructed view.
We were lucky, we got an inside suite with ocean view. The only problem was, we had to know when to keep our curtains closed and leave them open. There was a walking path in front of our room. Beyond the path was the ocean. I guess our obstruction there were the people.

We are currently on a cruise and our balcony is so obstructed that we were lucky enought to get moved after 4 nights. Much better now! RC ovation of the seas.. also we wear our lanyards ON the ship!

Easy solution for the McNugget dilemma... Buy two 10 piece McNuggets to get the 4 sauces. By the way, getting back to the ship late but before it leaves doesn't guarantee you will be allowed to board. I observed the Norwegian Joy kick off two people who were late in Cozumel. NCL had already turned over their paperwork to the port agent when the couple drove up in a taxi. They argued for 15-20 minutes until the NCL staff brought their luggage out to the dock. Apparently once they turn over the paperwork, there is no reversing that process.
