dude, whats so hard to understand? 30 years on the road, you missed moments in your daughters life that can never returned, you don't come home, you want to spend some time with your teenage daughter, you missed a of memories because of work...Let him be human. I could be way off, but in all these months since his leave, one of my theories is that Richie could have been depressed. I don't mean like sad sad depression, but the kind that's more "everything is too hectic and I don't know why I can't deal with it but I need calm or else I'll be low",maybe one day he felt it was better to be home and be with Ava. Home is safe, and Ava is the number one thing in his life. All the other guys have wives and kids but Richie only has his daughter. Maybe he needed a break from being in the public eye to just sort himself out and spend time with his kid.
we can't judge him, we don't know what it feels like to be in one of the biggest bands in the world. He is a man, not a machine. I still love him with all my heart, and i know he'll be back for the next Bon Jovi record.

All I can think of watching this is when Jon and Richie hosted MTV Australia in the 80's and Richie had the time of his life saying "We're in Australia" over and over in a rather horrid accent, which was then followed by Jon telling "Michael Jackson" that he hadn't stolen "Michael's" jacket. Those boys. They're so silly together, there's no way they're not going to get back together.

I wonder if Richie had a "wakeup call" after Stephanie had the OD at college and with his own history with alcohol, become concerned more about Ava. Jon is able to maintain his family life along with everything else and I know Tico has little Hector but I can't remember if David has kids. I thought he had 2 but not sure. It's nice to hear Richie finally say something about why he chose to break away for however long he plans. Phil X has proven that Richie, like everyone in life can be replaced. Granted, after 30 years, we as fans don't like to see the boat get rocked but after listening to many concerts from this year, Phil has done a great job. I'm happy that Richie has remained sober for so long if he truly has. It's a daily battle for anyone who's fought alcoholism.

Also, I freakin' loved his first solo album Stranger In This Town ("Father Time" especially) and was surprised that didn't chart all that well. Could be a nice idea to have longer breaks for the musicians and their music. The nowadays stuff are not as good as the ones in the 80's and the band has a tendancy to repeat themselves again and again: same theme, same lyrics. We can see that in the setlists; it's almost the same in every show so maybe yer its time to take a longer break. It would be good for everyone of them and prevent the situation we are today.
They should have asked him why didn't he show up to a concert with just hours notice and foreced the band to play without a guitar player in Calgary? Or why did he said that it was a family drama and he hoped it to be over by september? Or that he couldn't wait to get back to the tour? The nowadays stuff are not as good as the ones in the 80's and the band has a tendancy to repeat themselves again and again: same theme, same lyrics. We can see that in the setlists; it's almost the same in every show so maybe yer its time to take a longer break. It would be good for everyone of them and prevent the situation we are today.
They should have asked him why didn't he show up to a concert with just hours notice and foreced the band to play without a guitar player in Calgary? Or why did he said that it was a family drama and he hoped it to be over by september? Or that he couldn't wait to get back to the tour? Sorry, or this guy's bipolar or he's just a liar that wants to get some of his image back.

The band should really take long breaks between cycles (album/tour) because the material is not that good. Somehow I understand Richie for dropping the ball, but he shouldn't have done it mid-tour.
Sober for 8 years??? I guess the alcohol/drug has erased some memories for him there. Last public announcement of him going into rehab was in 2010. You do the math! LOL

I think he's made the right choice. Bon Jovi's last few records have steadily sucked in original content since the last best album 'These Days'. Anyone who thinks this isn't about Jon is truly naive. Richies new stuff has more heart and soul than anything Jon's done over the last decade easily. How many times can you re-write livin' on a prayer anyway? Richie is just being diplomatic - lest we forget what happened to Alec John Such when he spoke out to press about Jon's 'dictatorship'? If this truly is about Ava then good for you Richie, Jon could learn a lot from you, or are the millions more important than his family?!?

simply don't understand how Bon Jovi can go on and tour without him. It would be like Aerosmith without Joe Perry. It simply doesn't make sense. Can't see how Richie is replaceable...I've always thought he was a bigger piece of Bon Jovi than Bon Jovi himself.

If this is the real reason to stop a world tour then I didnt understand anything about you man..your daugher would be there for you even after the tour..you could have 2-3 off after that! you decided to be on the road last year with your solo album...why dont you just say that you're tired of Bon Jovi and cut the crap!!
