I live near the city where the factory is located :) It's called Magna Steyr and they produce engines and cars with over 1000000 hp every day. Also Mercedes produces their cars here and the G-Class, which was invented by Puch back in the day, was and still is produced in Graz, Austria ;) the factory has sich a crazy long history and great building quality!

Can they live up to the German standard? (I was reading that Airbus/Boeing could not assemble their planes in China bc there was no supply of metal rivets of required quality). These basic things can make or break a car. This is why you see often important reliability differences for same model built in different locations.
You know, it's about how germans produce cars not that germans produce cars. If the chinese workers can work as precise and tidy as germans do and the Machines and Material are the same quality, why should it be worse? Greetings from munich.
Well luckily right now, Chinese built German cars are just for the domestic Chinese market, but I would massively begrudge spending thousands of my hard earn pound sterling on a product where labour is a 3rd the cost to what it is in Germany with the manufacturers exploiting that for even bigger profit margins. Also, I live in the UK. Germany is a few hundred miles from me. Its time consuming and bad for the environment to ship cars half way around the world. There is really no excuse for any German car to be made anywhere else, when you're paying premium prices for them. It is greed, plain and simple.

Why these cars are so expensive regarding they are manufactured in China for handful of rise? If I pay a huge amount of money for such car I expect it to be made in Europe by european workers.
You do realise that BMWs for asian market are made in china, and BMWs for european market are made in germany? Why would they make BMWs in germany and then send them to asia, that would be fucking expensive and not profitable at all. Anyway german engineering and technology is used, chinese workers do minor stuff as you can see, robots do everything that requires precision so Im sure asians do drive quality built BMWs.

It is probably for the electric-Hybrid models, The 3 cylinder engines are usually used to recharge the batteries.
Not 100% sure in this case though.
