My dad actually e-biked my Chopper back in the late 70s! Powered by a car battery strapped to the parcel shelf and a pair of windscreen wiper motors friction driving the back wheel! It was a *beast*, but it worked! Wouldn't balance on the kickstand though....😃

Hand throttles being illegal is the stupidest thing. Pedal assist can be downright dangerous if you're going 5mph behind pedestrians and the motor suddenly pulls you forwards.
It funny cuz here in America you can have a mid motor that goes 50mph with pedal assist lol.throttle bikes no problem as long as they don't go 28mph then you don't have to register it, but they don't have laws for the mid motors yet America gots freedom baby that's right lol

I knew a couple of guys with these growing up in the 70's. One had a steering wheel instead of bars. Another had cool tiger hand grips. Now you need to do a Krate or Pea Picker with the springer front and slick tire and the gear shifter on the bar.

It's one of the rare ones that fits older bicycles with 100mm front fork axles, put it on my Schwinn. Wouldn't want anything more powerful with v-brakes, you know? (Not all bike use disk brakes)
@@esk8jaimes 1000w without disk brakes is fine. 1000w get about 25mph. Just peddling you can get you to 32mph, down a hill must people have gone about 40mph on a mtb. It’s fine. The more power the better as you don’t have to use what you don’t need. But if you got a hill or need to merge the power is their. Just like driving a 1.2L car. It’s harder because when you need to merge or pullout it’s slow so you can’t adapt as well. Same with a more power ebike kit you will have more adaptability.
0:51 you saying you don't think you could pedal it isn't necessarily down to your height, evan as a kid I struggled although my Grandads tinkering may have contributed, but those bikes were evil, mine had the pedal backwards to brake, which sounds fine but even if I thought about stopping pedaling it would brake, I couldn't freewheel from fear of going into a slide or going over the handlebars. I always wanted one but when I got it I wished it was still a dream and not reality.

A Chopper e-bike for adults is a cool idea -- but the original frames are just a bit too small for adults. Someone needs to reproduce the design about 1.2x bigger.

Its and electric bicycle (eBike) not an electric motor bike. Youre allowed up to 1000w aslong as its not over 15mph on a peddle assist bike. Its got pedals so legally allowed on the road as a bicycle with no tox, no MOT, no CBT, no insurance. He wasnt riding on the footpaths (not allowed to with a bicycle) so shouldnt be ploughing anyone over = no fines.

Look into the 250w ebike conversion kit from Elecycles, only uses two cables and has gyroscopic pedal sensor.
250 is too slow. 2000w plus.

Personally idk if I should get a 1500w kit or 3000w kit next. Not sure if you can have a 3000w motor with a normal battery.

It is now technically a moped. To ride it legally one requires CBT, a licence, full face helmet, insurance, number plates etc.
