Aaron Scarpa that's why I don't consider David Carr a draft bust like most people cause he put up some decent stats dispite not have a good offensive line or much of anything to work with. He did his best with what he had one man can only do so much.
Boselli never played a snap for the Texans due to back injury. Young was a beneficiary of playing with Mawae and Randy Thomas with the Jets. He was out of football 2 years after this.
That protection that Jaws was jizzing his pants over let David Carr get sacked 76 times... There was only ONE season (2003, a season he only played in 12 games during) where he was sacked under 40 times.
It was. I watched it live and as a Jets fan I was having a stroke, losing both starting CBs and Ryan Young who was good with the Jets but fell off the radar in 2 years flat.
Jacksonville made a deal with the Texans: If the Texans would select Boselli, they would leave Seth Payne, Zach Wiegert and Gary Walker on the unprotected list. The Texans agreed and all but Boselli had fantastic careers in Houston. You have to understand all of the variables to recognize why Boselli was taken considering his minimal chances of ever playng football again. That being said, Boselli rehabed nonstop and never quit on his attempt to make a comeback.
@@Bull1908 No sir. He was attempting to repair his injury in California during camp and apparently it wasn’t working out. He made more personal appearances around the city promoting the new team than he did on the actual field…literally. He retired and was instantly given a high paying job in California. Now that the dust settled, he was never going to play here, The Walker/Payne to eat Tony’s contract with a 5% chance that he’d recover was the deal the Texans took.
I often wonder what would have happened if they took Rob Johnson and started him year 1 while allowing Carr to sit and develop. He could have got some regular season snaps if there were any blowouts. Would have been interesting to see it unfold that way. Regardless, one of my favorite things about being a Texans fan is knowing I literally watched the team come to life, from the expansion announcement, to the NFL selecting Houston, the logo and uniform unveiling, expansion draft etc. It’s been a wild ride with more downs than ups so far, but I wouldn’t choose any other team simply because I watched this one be born.
The Texans agreed to pick up Boselli because they also wanted Payne and Walker (two very good DTs at the time). Jacksonville wouldn't offer all of them unless they selected Boselli too. The Jags were in cap hell, and they desperately needed them to pick up the injured/expensive Boselli. Boselli was the best LT in the NFL before his shoulder injury. Ogden was stronger but Boselli had better feet and fundamentals. The man was the prototype at LT and there will be very few LTs as good as he was.
This was the second-to-last expansion draft in the big 4 major league sports that took place between 1991 and 2004. The NHL's 2017 expansion draft took place 15 years after the last NFL expansion draft.
I don't think its fair to call someone a "BUST" because of injuries! Injuries are apart of the game! Plus its not fare to call David Carr a bust, because he played for an expansion team!
David Carr had sensational talent...his "downfall" was that horrendous offensive line which failed to provide protection....young dude could only withstand soo many beatings...by his third season, he was so banged up, guy could hardly move out of the pocket...watch the old videos....you just hope and pray his brother Derek doesn't meet the same fate in Oakland.
@Jason Random For clarification, they couldn't SELECT free agents at this stage. They had to wait until free agency began. Former Colt Steve McKinney was their first UFA signing in the first week of March that same year. Later on, they'd go on to sign 6 undrafted FAs following the 2002 draft.
Funny thing is the Texans had the best opportunity to succeed right away with this expansion draft BUT they wouldnt make the playoffs until 2011 9 years after birth. But the reborn Browns only took 4 years since coming back to go to the playoffs and they were talking about how Browns didnt have the same opportunity of players as the Texans did lol
I've been watching NFL football extensively since 1995....Tony Bosseli is the best left tackle i've seen in that time. He was like a robot.Very technical & cerebral.Like the Peyton Manning of OT's
The only thing more stunning than the Patriots leaving Willie McGinest and Ted Johnson unprotected is that the Texans didn't select either since no one removed players from the unprotected list. The Texans shouldn't have rushed to pick Boselli seeing as Jacksonville was desperate to be rid of his health problems and high salary.
I wonder what the pats d would have been like if they took Willie Mcginest and Ted Johnson in this expansion draft since they were big parts for the pats next 2 super bowl wins

What sux about inogrial seasons is your team can't sign free agents. You have to create a team through the expansion draft. Not just in the NFL but with the MLB, the NBA, and the NHL. All expansion teams every major sport has expansion drafts for expansion teams who are all complete amateur players who are all either failed college athletes, high school dropouts or recent high school graduates, convicts who are currently on parole, and bums who are out on the street. What a joke the expansion draft is for all 4 of the major sports if you ask me.
Jaws thought that offensive line would be tough. Lol they almost let David Carr get killed and ruined his career.

Boselli never played a snap for the Texans due to back injury. Young was a beneficiary of playing with Mawae and Randy Thomas with the Jets. He was out of football 2 years after this.
Aaron Scarpa no matter how you look at it David Car was a bust no matter.
He's a bust for the pick he was taken of he was a 3rd rounder no one would be saying anything cause he had a long career

That protection that Jaws was jizzing his pants over let David Carr get sacked 76 times... There was only ONE season (2003, a season he only played in 12 games during) where he was sacked under 40 times.
How much would you pay to see Jaws and Dan Fouts play spin the bottle?
Thats cause Boselli never played a down for Houston and Young was a product of the system with the Jets haha
I didnt know that this was actually televised lol. That would have been sweet to watch this live.

Golden Knights were an expansion team last year , Texas were just built like shit.

why does the video look like its from the early 90's?
Because this was in 2002?
It was probably recorded on an old tape that had been used over and over. And set on 8 hour instead of two hour. Made a huge difference.
0:05 scared the crap out of me!!!
I was born im 2002 started watching football around 8-9yrs old and im just now leaning this about the texans lol
Damn they could have had Willie Mcginest
I imagine the team that played last in 2001 was very pissed when this happened.
That would be Carolina, and while they didn't get the #1 pick, they did #2 and they did fine with that pick, Julius Peppers

I wonder what the pats d would have been like if they took Willie Mcginest and Ted Johnson in this expansion draft since they were big parts for the pats next 2 super bowl wins
So why didn't Boselli ever play for the Texans?
Injuries prevented him from playing, and he was forced to retire after the Texans' inaugural season.
@@jayr5277 Was he injured before or after the expansion draft? Otherwise it was pointless they drafted him!
@@Bull1908 before. However the jags mad a deal with the Texans they had to pick Boselli if the Texans got the Jags start DT. So they did it.
