Гибралтар расположен в южной части Пиренейского полуострова, в месте, где Европа «соприкосается» с Африкой и является одним из признанных центров парусного спорта, в бухте которого создан специально оборудованный современный яхтенный центр. Гибралтар - это удивительная природа, пещеры, пальм, сосны, кипарисы, огромное количество разновидностей цветов. Туристы приезжают на этот полуостров, чтобы полюбоваться с вершины скалы на противоположный берег Африки и заняться шопингом, так как цены на все товары значительно ниже, чем в большинстве стран Европы.
Столица Гибралтара - город Гибралтар (Gibraltar), расположенный на юге Пиренейского полуострова, на западном склоне скалы. Неоднократно город переходил под контроль то к англичанам, то к испанцам. Во время второй мировой войны на Гибралтаре располагалась стратегическая военная морская база. Сегодня - это крупный туристический центр, с живописными пейзажами, развлекательными центрами и множеством ресторанов.
Официальная валюта Гибралтара - гибралтарский фунт (Gibraltar pound), (знак: £; код: GIP), равный 100 пенсам. Кроме местной валюты, на территории Гибралтара в качестве параллельной валюты используется фунт стерлингов. В обращении находятся монеты достоинством в 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 пенсов и 1, 2 фунта, а также банкноты номиналом в 5, 10, 20 и 50 фунтов. Гибралтарский фунт равен фунту стерлингов.
