Welcome back to another 2D to 3D video. I am Follygon and in this video, I am going to show you my entire digital character sculpting process from beginning to end. This time around I am Casual Girl in a Winter Jacket inspired by the artwork of Lydia Elaine, @lotusbubble on Instagram.
Normally, I would be sculpting the early stages of this character from scratch, but I thought this would be a great way to show off ModMesh. You can check it out here: follygon.gumro...
I'll be talking about the complete process of this character as well as giving advice for sculpting in general. As always I am turning this 2D concept into 3D using my software of choice ZBrush. Created on my 27 QHD Cintiq Graphics Tablet, which lets me use a pen to control my digital clay.
Check out some of my favorite 2D to 3D videos below!

Hey all, thanks for checking out the vid! :D All of those cool sounding courses and such can be found here: gumroad.com/follygon
sculpt boys!
i like watching you btw :D
who made the 2d art? link please!!!
I have been religiously watching your videos every night before I sleep, ended up not sleeping. Will I continue to do so? Most probably yes. Your videos are so entertaining and educational at the same time. And I’m not even an artist 😭 let alone a sculptor
"What is the point of being a sculptor if you're not going to sculpt a butt?" - Follygon, 2022
That part played just as my dad walked into the room💀💀
Rodin would be proud
ayy u took my comment😂
That's what I've been saying!
These videos actually help me learn about shapes as a beginner 2D artist
Wow, that's awesome!
I always struggle with placing eyeballs and making a perfect eye shape......but your videos always helped me learning more techniques
That's great to hear!
I love that you brought one of Lotus's work to a 3D space, she turned out so lovely! 3D artwork is so fun to watch being made and as soon as I have actual time, I want to really learn 3D sculpting and character creating too, it just is on a different level. Lovely; well done!
every time i think you’re about to say there’s a thing to complain about with this medium, you’re like “and that’s what i love about my work :D” it’s so cool, i love your art.
i dont understand who would click on a sculpting video and ONLY watch the end results, like the SCULPTING PROCESS is the most satisfying part to me--the way the shapes are bent, molded and manipulated to form bigger and more complicated shapes
She's so gorgeous 😭 I've never tried to do 3D sculpting but I feel like I could never in 100 years make something this good lol
it's just about learning the program as you go
everyone starts as a beginner
You should try it! Even if you don't know a lot of what you are doing, it's always fun!
Your entire process is entertaining to watch, especially because it's so well narrated. Great work!
Caught me lacking now i had to Watch the video after you pointed skipping the video out at the end 😂😂 great work!
First time watching someone do a digital 3D sculpt in a loong time. You might have just got me back into this art form again! 👀
She turned out amazing ❤💖💗
Oof, busted!! I fast-forwarded until the end! Your video popped up in my feed and I thought this was a 3D sculpt, like a physical one, not computer 3D. Still really pretty though, and I did go back to watch the rest. I didn’t understand most of it, but it’s a neat process.
Thank you!
This gives me so much inspiration as an artist myself, I don’t 3D sculpt but a lot of places I’m trying to apply to for work ask for it and watching your videos helps me feel much more comfortable with the subject so thank you ❤️
am i the only one who can't watch the whole video at once because it's so satisfying and it makes me sleepy
Hey very Nice final render, what an amazing progress since you started. 👍🏻I love it
People might skip to the end, like I do, to see what the end will be then see how you got there. You make beautiful work thanks for the video.
Just found your channel!! I love how you go through your process and explain it so clearly. I don’t know anything about 3D art, but this makes me want to learn! Can’t wait for more videos :D
23:53 @Follygon Not only i didn't skip the video but i paused and went back many many times to catch new techniques! Keep up this valuable work! 💫
this is my favorite series right now 😍where are you getting your 2D concept? Do you accept being given a 2D picture to try and make into a 3D? And how do you guys get in touch? And do you accept freelance work right now on any platform or are you focusing currently on content creating only? Thank you for the video!
I’m gonna sit here and watch every single one of these videos until I understand zbrush more lol
I love the content!! Thank you for the information so much appreciate it.
Glad you like them!
incredible you are so talented so patient and so good at what you do!
This is great, thank you!
Loved this character the hair and the jacket part was really nice....❤️

How to custom your Zbrush user interface? I love your color's UI. Thank you!!
Him calling me out in the emd omg
24:58 me: watches the hole video past my bedtime. him: hello skipping viewers. Me: 😢💔
it to multi-track record. I would play with an effect or two on my recordings, but I never touched the soft role or the step sequencer.
I skipped and didn't think I'd get called out for it
just seeing tNice tutorials tutorial so glad I did, I was about to go back to jogging in the creek, but now there is hope and inspiration will definitely
why you do suzanne dirty like that
great sculpt as always
2D > 3D! 2D girls will never betray you...

lo why do u not like blender? 0:28
I like how you appreciate the butt without disrespecting the butt. 10/10 quality content 😌
New sub here master I will try to learn all I can from you
Awesome piece as always, man! I wanted to ask you, what tablet do you use? I'm thinking about getting a Huion Kamvas 24 Pro 4K myself, any suggestions? I'd really appreciate your opinion here 😊
Nice modelling. Could you tell what is the software use for this model. Can this software use in the iPad Pro?
Could you make a 3D image look like a 2D image a sort of trick to the eye
how'd' you know
I've always been curious about this folly where did you learn your skills in sculpting? Did you go to school? or did you learn on your own? I watch alot of ur vids but dont think i ever heard you say
Self taught. I learned by doing. No art school.
@@Follygon oh wow thank you for answering me. Out of curiosity can you recommend any of the materials u used to learn books courses etc etc?
@@papasalvo I have created quite a lot of courses, tutorials, etc for that exact purpose. They didn't exist when I was learning. I continue to release new content regularly. I recommend starting here: follygon.gumroad.com
And above all else, I recommend doing. That is the greatest teacher.
do you ever have your models 3d printed?
Do you use zbrush for painting then?
How would these models be, animated? I know you better need a T pose for animation, do you ever do that? (3D Models for animations)
Do you ever animate?
What is the name of the app?r
*skipping to the end of the video*.. Hi my skipping friends!... Oh crap
got'em!
I'm a rapper who can't really afford production so I want to learn to make my own soft. I just want to say that I appreciate your teacNice tutorialng
I want to print this and paint it by hand! Make a collab and work so we can buy it!
Y'all seen Space Jam? Any chance I can just steal Follygon's talent?
👀
She looks like Maddison Beer
why you can do that but not me..?
yea i skipped. but also liked :D
0:30 That hurts. 🐵😢
👍
Gotem
How did he know I skipped?!?
Draw 3D BTS JMIN
yes I skipped, I like to know how its going to look before I watch.
Mlk, se pá que o canal foi hackeado
he keeps catching me when I skip to the end and it always scares me
Open soft soft and press F1 and you’ll never be a noob again
You disrespect Suzanne
I think less people would skip to the end if you didn't blur it in your thumbnail.
talking about the same thing over and iver again and then blaming people for skipping to the end.. classic
Hey, at 8:52 when you mention your Loish sculpt, do you have any lengthier real-time videos of sculpts with complicated hair like that on your channel here to watch or are they only on gumroad etc? The snippet of that character in this video looks real-time but the video I found is again condensed, sped up, multiple skips, and hard to learn anything from. 😭🥲 I keep getting stuck at hair when it comes to my own sculpts and I’m struggling bad to the point of not finishing any character I start as a result.
