- This is how I bend the wire harnesses that go inside my lures. I made some costume jugs and a custom wire bending tool. I also have a commercially made bender.

Enjoy your videos I spent 40 years as a tool maker and still learning the trade now time for making fun stuff
Right on
I just gotta say thanks for posting this video. I've been forming wires with just pliers by hand and it was taking forever. I tried making jigs like yours but wasn't having much success with repeatability until I saw the wire bending tool you made. After looking at the pictures you posted on Facebook it only took me about 15 minutes to make one myself and I can now make the forms for my lures in about 30 seconds. Your videos are an amazing resource of information and I really hope your channel takes off. Thanks again for sharing your work.
Thanks bro...so cool to hear you were inspired to make your own wire shaper. Cheers.
I need you to design a safety pin line tie machine
I really like the wire bending tool you made . I have the other wire bending tool you showed in the video . You have some very good skills !!!
Excellent content! I would love to see you make an instructional video on how to make your homemade haywire forming and twisting tool robust enough to bend .062 wire.
I have the same one and I use mine on a daily or the weekly use of it from other ways to use it too
Clever ideas. Check out McMaster-Carr for wire. They have it all and probably much cheaper then the AFW wire
Thanks for the tip.
@@EngineeredAngler been bending my own wire for 30+ years. Long before the Alabama rig I made a casting rig that won tons of tournaments but, no one would believe me. Where I get my wire
That bending tool just blew my mind. This is an awesome channel happy to subscribe. Thanks for the videos.

thank you so much for the positive feedback. I'll be doing more videos on innovative techniques stay tuned...
Awesome I'm glad to hear it. I just got the Twistech wire former from watching this video. I'm glad I came across what you're doing with the wire for your baits I'm going to switch over to that style as well. I don't think I'll be able to make as good of a jig as you have for bending them but I might be able to make some sort of jig with the 3D printer. Thanks again the tool is awesome and will save me tons of time.
Wow. That wire bending tool you made out of a handle was amazing! I need to make my own :)!
Keep making videos cause you got many great ideas!
Thank you so much for the feed back....
if go to the engineered angler Facebook page you will see some pictures I posted a few months ago...hope those help.
Thank you
Would love to see more detail on your “eye twist gizmo”. Amazing!
Noted!
The jig to make the front eye twist , do you have a video on how to make it or where to buy it? New Subscriber !!!
Thank you for the Sub and welcome. The little wire twister is called a TwistTech. It is still available online.
for those of you who are interested in getting a closer look at the tool I use to bend the wire, I posted some closer photos on the engineered angler Facebook page let me know what you think.
is love to see the close up pix... can't find them on you fb page. can you point to them? thanks!
It must be quite a pleasure to work with stuff made this nicely. Oh the way I make wires... :D
If it works ...it works. Cheers
Nice work
Thanks Eric, Merry Christmas
Good stuff dude. Fun to watch!!
Thanks for the visit dude...still working on better camera work. It doesn't come natural to me...
@@EngineeredAngler i visit every week brah.
Nice tools.
Thanks 👍
Amazing!!!!
Thank you
Hi mate any chance of a pic of the bottom of that handle you using on the jig to bend he wires?
I posted some photos on the Engineered Angler Facebook page, check it out. And thanks for watching.
Need this tool 😭
I make a leader that wraps around the shaft of a 4/0 or 5/0 straightbait hook maybe 6 times then through the eye. Fwd of the eye is a straight shaft with a 5/8 inch or so narrow loop at its front which is then run through an anchovie from tail end up along the spine through the mouth. This fwd loop is for swivel snap connection as well as for a sm nail with a sm rubber band to pin the bait onto this leader/hook gizmo. The nail is fed from under jaw of bait up through loop through top of bait head and secured with rubberband. Its quite simple but slow with hand tools. Ive been using jewelers tools which were very inexpensive but am looking for a faster easier and more professional looking finished product. What might you suggest. Thx in advance.
Well, I'll have to take your word for it that it is simple...from the description sounds like a bit of work. My efforts in improving wire bending systems have been focused on lure wire harnesses. Have you checked out some of the hand-held leader making devices? It sounds like they might be your best option. Look at the Du-Bro Kwk Twist or the Twistech Wire Former bench model.
Excelente máquina ! Parabéns .
Obrigada
Eu gostaria de uma máquina dessa!!!! Onde eu compro?
Could you make a lure retriever?
That's a nice idea.
I’ve been thinking about this for a while but can’t think of something I can make that’s inexpensive, easy to make and most of all compact that I will want to take it with me. I fish BFL tournaments and just can’t see bringing stuff commercially available as they are usually too bulky and heavy.
Nice video
Thank you Sherman.
I’m loving it! Did you make the eye twisting gizmo? If so, is there a video?
Thanks!
No, the twister I bought
@@EngineeredAngler Great Videos Mate! I can't find it anywhere. May I ask, where you bought it?
very clever......how do you keep air pockets out of mold?
I don't have issues with air bubbles.
dear friend, where can i buy such a machine? you can send it to Brazil
I made the tool in the video.
Was that Wire bending gadget Home made or store bought ?
You can watch how I made it here:
ua-cam.com/video/9lSYByZLKnU/v-deo.html
I’m looking for something that’s capable of bending 2.2mm 316 annealed wire for tuna stickbaits harnesses as well as forming the barrel loops for the nose. Any idea if the tools used in this video would work?
Dimensionally no, your wire would be too thick,..the techniques and tools on the video will not work. But the good thing about annealing is that it results in a material that is much easier to bend and with less "rebound memory". I mention this because it means you can do the radius bends with hand tools, don't need real industrial bending machines, and you could (theoretically) fashion a homemade machine to form the barrel raps.
Hola excelente trabajo. Podrás mostrar bien la herramienta para el doblado de alambre o algún tutorial ?
ua-cam.com/video/9lSYByZLKnU/v-deo.html
Is there any chance you can go through a tutorial on how you determine the wire length and set your bending jig for each lure? I'm trying to get a through wire to work on a lure design right now and it is driving me nuts! Every time I bend and finish it's either too long or too short and I've tried to print a template jig and everything. I need your expertise this is driving me crazy lol.
Revamped Outdoors
the most common mistake that causes you to come up short on your wire is that you bend the side of the wire that's already measured and not the tag end. here is a link to a video I made a while back on this subject. let me know if it answers your questions. if not I'll try doing something a little better.
ua-cam.com/video/cGyfRp4DLaE/v-deo.html
Great thanks for the link. That technique looks like it will work great with the hand tools. I'm just having trouble figuring out total length I need for the wire when completing two complete wraps for the back and
front eyes. I suppose I can try and just do a half wrap and let the tag end come back into the lure instead of finishing both ends.
What is eye Wire Twister tool called, looks very handy
Twistech
Hard to find A Australian seller of them@@EngineeredAngler
Sure looks easier than when I'm bending wires - Might have to up my game a bit

Thanks a lot man.
On the tool you made , how did you do the black handle knob end that bends the wire ? Did you slot it ?
Del, Thanks for the positive feedback. That black knob is a generic knob I had laying around. It's threaded in the center so I took a long bolt that fit, drilled an 1/8th inch hole in the center (of the bolt) at one end about 1/4 deep, ground down the end to a narrow tip, then filed the tip flat then filed a step in the tip so it would grab the wire. Then I jest super glued a short peace of nail in the hole and, voila! Let me know if you would like to see some better photos. I can post them on the facebook page also called Engineered Angler.
Thank you , I just liked your FB page . I would like to see a picture if the end of the black knob how you filed it . Thank you very much . I make fishing lures also . Del Smith Fishing !!
Posted some photos of the tool on the Engineered Angler Facebook page...hope it helps.
Does anyone know if I can substitute wire from Home Depot?
Sure...I use some in this video and it turns out to be much stronger than labeled.
ua-cam.com/video/ReNvnSB7vMk/v-deo.html
Hi can I ask where did you get that tool
ua-cam.com/video/9lSYByZLKnU/v-deo.html
Owesome as always! I came across your channel yesterday, I'm watching all your videos, starving to learn, could you please provide Amazon link to this wire branding, I couldn't find it, really appreciated!
It's called Twistech Wire Former ...I think the best price is on ebay...thanks for watching. I just designed a new wire tool to form a wire snell. Video soon.
thanks so much for your sharing! Your channel is a mine of knowledge and I'm studying!
Hello
I would like to buy a wire bending tool just like yours!!!
can you tell me where to buy it please? Im from Brasil!!! Thanks!!!!
The tool is hand made. Not for sale. Sorry.
@@EngineeredAngler ok thanks!!!!
Did you buy this wire bender or made it yourself?
Djordje Maksimovic
I made the wire Bender myself it's actually pretty simple. if you go on the engineered angler Facebook page there are some close up photographs. Cheers thanks for watching
Engineered Angler you made the whole set, and there are photos of it?
I only made the part with the forming plate and pins and the knob that bends the wire. Only the part with photos I posted on the facebook page....
nice machine. what do you call that machine.
Thank you. ..I'm not sure it has a real name, I just call it my wire bender.
You are another magyver like me.
what size of wire you'r using on that video sir?
Ranillo Maligaya
the wire is 174 lb strength stainless steel leader wire diameter is about .044 inches
Thanks for the info sir..
