Recently went to Coconut beach on a day out on a moped and a dip in the sea, i find it hard to comprehend the heat of the water in the sea, its bath hot !!! Loved it there though.
You had all restaurants, shops and smoothies (30 baths) close to your guesthouse (900m) on Poseidon beach...For sure you wasn't on the best market for food; Bang Niang market is a tourist trap. Prefer Factory market, or the other one near PTT gas station. Even better the real local fresh market at the morning (bus station) or at Lam Kaen. Don't forget the Thai people share food so they don't order 1 simple dish or 1 portion; anyway you can ask a larger size of fried rice for 1$ extra!! South Thailand like=spicy food and papaya salad (som tam)as the mango salad wis made with green unripe fruits.The best food is where the locals eat, not at a tourist restaurant. Don't miss Surin,Similan, Koh Koh Khao&Koh Phra Thong islands, national park atKhao Sok and the turtle sanctuary/protection at Marine base.
