just remeber don't touch the glass bulb with your hands or fingers, it is best to use rubber gloves. Your natural body oil on your skin will get on the light and burn it out quicker
It’s easier to put only the bulb and collar on first then plug them in on installation. Fit the bulb in first, put the collar on and turn it to close then plug the harness in. Plus if you have the 2001 and a half model the bulbs are different than the regular 2001 model. 2001 1/2 model has the speakers on the support arms for the roof by the dash. Hope this helps.
At least on a 1998 model truck, this is *much* easier if you disconnect the cable first, *then* twist off the mounting collar. Particularly on the driver's side. I attempted to change one this morning using this video as a guide and it was horrible. I eventually gave up and followed the owners' manual, which says cable *then* collar, and it took less than two minutes to do it.
SWEET!!!!!! alot of the other videos out there are taking the grill off to change the light bulb.... great video but a bit "shaky" guess working one handed is a problem...
The passenger side on this model is easy due to the extra room. The driver's side is horrible, you can barely fit one hand back in there unless you yank your battery. Having trouble getting the collar back on mine as well. But so far it has stayed even over a 600 mile trip because of the grooves on the bulb holding it in.
@jameskubik4929 I had the same problem and I ended up just taking the whole headlight assembly out because I got new LED headlights with extended wires, made the driver side a piece of cake
I've found that everything I've done or assisted doing on my Dad's 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 is a pain inn the rear. My hands are small, so it's easier for me to get into right places. Replacing the ac/heater fan was a witch. I think I provided entertainment, since my guy couldn't help but laugh. I think I may of created a few cuss words. I don't know how a man with normally size hands would be able to get to that back screw. The charcoal canister was mounted in the worst location on a truck that is going to be used as a work truck. My Dad and my brother both took it out. Then a year or so ago, I joined the club. Changing the windshield wipers was and the wiper motor was hateful. I was the assistant on those last two though. What makes someone design stuff that is just a pain to work on? There mechanics have to despise doing some of the repairs on them. I admit changing the bulb for my tag light on my Lexus was absurd, again my small hands came in handy. Having to remove the plastics and work behind metal plates was crazy. Thankfully, a friend of ours is auto body mechanic and was able to give us a heads up.
you can see that he didn't have the collar on deep enough, yet was trying to turn it. that won't work. make sure to visually SEE that the collar is on deep enough before trying to twist it on. a little grease on connector (a LITTLE grease) will facilitate things. put it on and then wipe the excess off.
Been dealing with this crappy design on my 1997, and now 2000. Worst design ever. Thanks Dodge! Changing the low beam on the drivers side behind the battery is the worst.
I've got a 2002 Ram 1500, Why TF are they so different? If the damn thing didn't run so good, I'd put a brick on the gas pedal aimed for the lake. I can find a BUTT load of info on every other year besides the `02. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but GEEZ LOWEEZE.
Worst video ever! This is a video on how not to change the bulbs 😂 take the wire connector before removing bulb, at least that’s how it’s done on my 2nd gen

i was just about to say that

Thank you. Simple enough process. Changing out a blown bulb today!

Is there two sizes of plugs for the high and low beam on a 2000 dodge ram 1500
Thank you. I was struggling and didn’t want to break anything.

Yeah, I need driver side as well. Was wondering if I have to remove the battery tray.
Now try the left side (driver side blub) it harder to get too cause of design, metal in the way.
very good, looks simple enough, bought a bulb today gonna install tomorrow
so thank you for having a little trouble getting that ring seated right when you put it back in there--ugh

Would be nice if you mentioned the PART #
Secret put Vaseline on o ring makes it much easier ,my truck is diesel with two batteries no room to work. You can't even see what you are doing.
I’m having a beast of a time on the driver’s side. This was a terrible design.
How did you do it ? I cannot get mine off

How do you clean the slimy housing? Housings are the worst
cannot put the collar back on, I suck
I cant remove the collars from my Rams headlights, both are stuck on there tight.
Is it ok to try a channel locks?
40intrepid no.channel locks might break off plastics given the vehicles age. try normal pliers but be gentle.
worked great , thanks for posting.
Ok so I changed the bulbs and now the high beam indicator on the dash won’t turn off. What does that mean?
THX
Thank you!!
fyi dont touch the bulb, due too wont last..we have oil on our skin that not work well with the bulbs ask around youll see.
