    Once again a fine piece of work, Birka!
    Although as a Christian I regard this to be just mythology and therefore 'ancient fiction' I always enjoyed reading (and nowadays: telling) some of the stories of our 'ancestral germanic/nordic religion' to others.
    At home I also once had a very big (abt. 10 kilos!) cat that I named Sleipnir; because to me he made the noise of the eight-legged horse of Wodan/Odin when running over my then wooden floor boards!
    Greetings from your Dutch mate!

      Honestly? Nothing if you're trying to educate the leyman. This is probably the most enjoyable I've seen. But, if you're trying to elaborate for more hardcore Norse fans (which this doesn't seem like it's going for, anyways), it's way too...not sure the word. Basically, the use of pop-culture semi-references (Thor movies, the Lord of the Rings, RPG-style dark elves, etc.) detracts from it....But, again only detracts (to me) if you're not trying to go for what I think you are, which is a crash-course introduction for the average leyman who ksn't familiar with Norse mythology.
      Either way, it's still well-made, especially for a fan thing on UA-cam.

    the sacred tree of the universe.....in "the good old days" people in our area worshiped a holy oak...the Donar Eiche(Thor's oak, in the local dialect) until the Holy Winfried(aka St. Bonifacius) came and knocked it down, to "free" the people of their superstitions. on the way home he was attacked by warriors, armed with spears and swords....he defended himself with his gynormous bible, but was eventually cut down...the bible,with the big slash across it, is still in the Hamburg museum, i saw it myself......the Hindus have a similar view of the universe, as a giant tree with endless variety....and even in a science program, the universe was shown like a giant tree...something to think about......

    • @shadoweater9111
      @shadoweater9111 10 років тому +2

      Yeah I fully respect christians if they actually follow the bible, there's some amazing ideas for life in there even if you don't believe in god, but like Ghandi said "I love Christ, but so few Christians act Christlike" (or somthin like that)
      Every religion has some bullying, but the roman catholics back then were CRAZY.

      Balthasar
      You, sir, are not alone in your opinion. Seriously, they even got Thor's hammer, one of the most iconic objects in Norse Mythology, completely wrong. How hard can it be to depict a HAMMER??

    • @jasonroberts271
      @jasonroberts271 10 років тому +5

      Jace Roberts
      Just to clarify that, Mjolnir was a medium-sized hammer, with a handle that was so short it couldn't be gripped with two hands because the dwarves who made it messed up whilst forging it. Also, it was so powerful that Thor had to wear iron gloves or it scorched his hands, and so heavy that not only was Thor the only one who could wield it, he had to wear the Girdle of Might that doubled his strength and the beforementioned gloves which doubled it again. There was nothing in there about being "worthy" it was just that heavy that only Thor at FOUR TIMES his natural strength could use it.
      Take that, Marvel.

    Yeah I have seen the maps of I1 and it doesnt seems to peak in the south.
    But while R1B and R1A peaks in the south Sweden.
    Anyway the Germanic culture can first be found in north Germany and Scandinavia.
    And it seems like it spread first from those areas also.

  • @joonte1010
    @joonte1010 11 років тому

    What i want to see is a detailed map over Scandinavia that shows the haplogroups and where they are most common. I know for example that the people in the south western coast of Norway have a majority of the R1b haplogroup.

  • @alarik36
    @alarik36 11 років тому

    About the nine worlds of Yggdrasil. It is very probable that Snorri the author of the Edda collected myths in Västergötland 1219-21 as a guest with Ragnvald jarl before releasing the Edda in 1223.. Vaner I think means "gods much worshipped around Väner lake" or "gods from Väner lake"..

  • @joonte1010
    @joonte1010 11 років тому

    I have also seen some hasty made maps over Scandinavia with haplogroups but they always differ from eachother,What i want to see is a detailed and well made map. Accourding to genetic research the I1a haplogroup is strongest in souther Sweden and probably central Sweden too.
    The early Germanic culture/mythology was probably a mix between the new faith and the old one but grew apart from each further away they came. Look at the Anglo-Saxon mythology for example and compare it with the Norse one.

    Whats the song name?

  • @joonte1010
    @joonte1010 11 років тому

    I agree, Its a very interesting subject. There is alot more to learn from this, Did you know that the I1 haplogroup is a different brach of the genetics we have in Europe? Not closely related with R1b/R1a but closely related with the ancient Greek haplogroups which is quite fascinating.. The very reason why the Nordic bronze age first started might be because of the connectien the ancient Scandinavians had with the mediterrean, Ever heard about the sea people for example?

  • @joonte1010
    @joonte1010 11 років тому

    R1a and R1b is about 19% and 22% compared to I1a that is around 40%. And scientists often use the I1a haplogroup to point out were Vikings settled as the I1a haplogroup is often associated with Scandinavia. The I1a haplogroup is actually largest in southern Sweden, Well, West geatland (Götaland). Gotland too have alot of that haplogroup and Dalarna or Värmland (Quite unsure which one it was).

  • @joonte1010
    @joonte1010 11 років тому

    Before Asatro arrived the pre-Germanic people had their own mythology, You can find traces about this in the sagas. Some Gods belong to the old faith, They are called Vanir, While the newcomers are called Aesir. It is possible that Asatro was created when Indoeuropeans first arrived and mixed with the pre germanic people of Scandinavia, And by pre germanic people i refer to the men and women of I1 haplogroup.

    There is a physical Valhall, just as a physical Olymp, borrowed by Snorri for hi´s mythologic Edda. Snorri Sturluson travelled here 1219-1221 as a guest to Ragnvald jarl. When in 1223 hi´s Edda came out. Much of he wrote, he is the only one with this material. Probably because he gathered stuff, myths and legends here in 'Gautland' BEFORE writing hi´s mythology(Verner Lindblom). Veitzt þú nu eða hvat?

  • @joonte1010
    @joonte1010 11 років тому

    I would say that Västra Götaland is in southern Sweden but in the study they placed it in central part of Sweden, Anyway. It shows that the I1a haplogroup is spread out all over Sweden and is in a majority. What the indoeuropeans did was to introduce new ideas and technologies that lead to the Nordic Bronze age.

    I think that sounds strange since naturallty the R1B and R1A should be strongest in the south Sweden becuase it would be there the first of these 2 groups arrived first. And the Nordic bronze age started more or less around the Kings grave according to the historians in the documentary stenristarna.

    Its just a theory that the Germanic group of people originated from Scandinavia, If i remember correctly it was when the Corded ware culture (R1a) and the Nordic culture (I1a) mixed that resulted in the Germanic group of people. But that many old tribes originated from Scandinavia is true however, Goths, Winnili and so on.

  • @joonte1010

Also almost everything we know about norse Mythology is written Down buy those Christians that i am talking about.

      +Ozzkar Silz Helheim is a place for the dishonorable.
      It is a place of torment.
      You are right almost everything was tainted by the second-comers.
      But know, striking a man down who wishes not too fight is dishonorable.
      Stabbing a man in the back, instead of enganging in open battle. Is dishonorable.
      Helheim is not a nice place, it is ruled by the Principality of Darkness.

    Odin and Thor is gods you can find in ancient Germany,England aswell.. Places the Indoeuropeans settled in,Wotan,Donar and so on. But im certain there is gods in Asatro that you couldnt find in Germany,England. The gods of Vanir origin, From the old faith. The Indoeuropeans influenced the culture and mythology of the Scandinavians, They brought in new ideas and so on, Thats how the Nordic bronze age started.

    " The I1a haplogroup displays a very clear frequency gradient, with a peak of approximately 40 percent among the populations of western Finland and more than 50 percent in the province of Satakunta, and around 38 percent in Sweden as a whole, with a peak of 52 percent in Västra Götaland County in central Sweden."

    " If whole tribes migrated earlier how can we know todays that those tribes dident had mostly R1B?"
    hard to say, it happened so long ago. These people is probably watered down but i suspect that a very large part of them had the I1a haplogroup, The goths especially. Denmark is the only Scandinavian country with R1b dominating, But they are also connected to mainland Europe and have had waves of immigrations (Especially from Germany during the medieval era).

    Well I think the Vanir in the Norse mythology are the I1 people and the Æsir are the R1B and R1A people. And they fought a war the " Æsir-Vanir War" but they finaly made a truce.
