No need for apologies considering the quality of the tape. I'm just grateful that you have an old, original performance by undoubtedly one of the most popular bands in the world. Thank you for sharing this rare gem. Cheers
I love this so much. This brings back memories. I used to have this album on cassette tape. I used to dance to this while blaring it on my boom box or walkman in the 80's. Thank you.
It doesn,t matter is charming with old consert, like some sittting in the earley 80,s and look on tv on this consert. Before internet, youtube .Very unicue consert.I am glad that you share this consert.
It was good for him and Depeche Mode, and all of us, as well. Maybe somehow, even unconsciously, he knew this. Because of what Vince did, we got this DM, a different DM, Yazoo, and Erasure to enjoy. What an amazing legacy!
@@rbrtck I’ve always thought everything happened the way it was meant to. I hated the first album except Tora Tora Tora written by Martin and that Vince needed to leave. I also feel Alan had to leave to get a less industrial sound and more of a mature synth rock sound. Especially with the stalled career of Alan. Sometimes things have away of working themselves out.

Cool original sounds like this deserves massive reeespect..! ;-o ! It's nice to hear this being played because as with you it has had a profound influence on my life, very inspirational stuff! thanks for the upload! It's nice to connect :)
Lord have mercy they were adorable. Even if it's really immature they are so good and just precious. Vince kinda scares me, but other than that..lol. I have never seen ANY of this pre 1985 vids. We didn't know who they were in the States unil People are People. But they looked like a completely different band back then.artin and David...sooo sweet and cute!! Mind blown because I mainly associate them with Violator and SOFAD and later. So this is quite shocking 😛 Totally love the Tora Tora.
I get how Vince could be a little unnerving at times, by appearances, but even back then he was a nice bloke in interviews, always quick to compliment others (when they deserved it, not as an empty gesture) while being modest about his own work. He was asked how he thought DM would do without him, and he said that Martin was a genius and that they'd do great. These days, in his old age, he has evolved into quite the impish jokester--very funny and just a lovely person. If you want a good sample of the real Vince Clarke, look up and watch the interview with him and Martin about their somewhat "recent" collaboration VCMG. 😂 Vince is hilarious in such a quiet, understated way, and poor Martin, who is somewhat shy and reserved, got to play the "straight man".
Never keen on the songs boys say go and what’s your name. They should have used television set and big muff. However, this line up of the composition of sound was the best. Alan wilder wrote some good songs.. two minute warning and if you want to but I’ll always prefer the line up with Vincent Clarke.
I am hearing mainly monophonic synth lines, but when they show their fingers, it looks like they are playing polyphonic. The video isn't good enough from me to see what they are playing.
I think you're looking at Andy Fletcher on the left (our left, stage right). He's just pretending to play, so it doesn't matter what his fingers do. :) The other two guys on synths, Vince and Martin, can actually play the songs.
@@WarthDader74 The wilder years where the best in my opinion and whilst Vince ofc was a legend, i think the last true dp lineup was the one with wilder, when wilder left, dm became a lot like kraftwerk playing macintosh computers instead of the analogue synths, thats not to say they don't sound great today but without vince or alan it never sounded quite the same...
ALan wilder was an accomplished musician but you cant replace Vince Clark. He was like 4 musicians in one. nothing can replace that. its a miracle they even survived w/o him.
Nintendo entertainment system and depeche MODE of this era suffered something quite similar: NES console used only 5 audio channels for generating sound, so that's why almost all videogames for that console sounded like the same. depeche MODE was limited by the not large range of sounds available on those synthesisers they had in the early days, so, at least their first album is quite the same song all the time, with different tempo and arrangements.
yes, it's normal, i haven't got the video master from the recording just after the cameras, and in 1981 the resolution of vhs tape at home was 240 lines
Vince Clarke -- man, I loved this era of DM.
He is the best hey , Synth genius
Always felt bad for Vince. He.was shooting golden bullets. Glad he found his way to Andy Bell. It's win-win for me. Love Depeche Mode. Love Erasure
@@joydivisionisnotdead67 Yazoo too
Its the perfect synth pop album - just awesome - and the bugger did it again with Upstairs at Erics....
Yeah. I'm not too fond of Depeche Mode post-Speak & Spell.
still outstanding 40 Years later amazing
This was the Depeche I loved!
That's the way "I like it". For 1981 the Quality is great!

great upload ! video quality is ok (from a 1981 VHS) and the audio is great :-)

Video rarissimo e stupendo!
Vince is the best
great concert! and it was only their first album!
Klasse🥰💃🥰
So cool Atari music

Perfect! !!!!
awesome! had this on vhs myself. thought i'd never see it again. it also had that "strictly off the record" intro. that's how i found you!

Очень интересно послушать. Особенно заметна разница как было до прихода Алана и как стало уже с ним в 1982 году.
I like back then if they hit a wrong note they just pitch bend it and it sounds awesome like an intergalactic explosion.
Chichester, England - December 3, 1981.
Very cool! THX!!!
quality is great. Thanks.
.... and what a great drummer 😉

Vince is my fave in DM , lovely man and quite a synth genius :) Nothing scary about him, he is just a quiet and humble man . I love him

OMG! Dave was only a 19 "boy" at that time.😊😍
"such a pretty boy"
"P - R - E - dobbelt T - Y" 😏😃
Wow!
Man, Dave's pants were were pulled up so high. They were up to his armpits and he also had no chin back then.
No problem with the video quality, besides, the audio is great!

Muito bom 👌
If this doesn’t exemplify the rewards of perseverance, nothing will.
Thanks for uploading, hexasonic - is this a rip from your own VHS tape or something you found online?
found online before youtube in 2004
Too bad we did not have just a bit better HF on this, but video tapes have that problem. Better than not having this performance :)

What synthesizers are out there. I see a juno 6. What else...?
Not a Juno 6 but a Jupiter 4 a Yamaha cs15 and a Moog Source
