These motors are alot of work, I have just done a 4jj1 cylinderhead rebuild and am having trouble getting it to fireup, i have drained the fuel lines of oxigen to get more pressure have tried start it once but battery getting flat so have to charge again, do you know what could be stopping it from starting? have i missed something or is there something else i need to do after completing the rebuild for it to start?
Timing might be off, crank could be 180 out. I had an absolute nightmare getting the 4jj1 to start once, it had fuel but turned out the pump had got weak, it requires 25-30 PSI coming from the low pressure pump to fire up. If you took the hose off and turned the key it was shooting out like a hose pipe, but wasn't enough to start it. I spent around £2000 before I managed to determine the cause of the no start.
found it was injector failer, 1 of the nozzles in the injectors siezed so cleaned all injectors and starts first pop, i also ajusted valve timing as i took the first measurement with the feeler gauge between the rollers and now believe its more correct doing it under the rocker screw, when all reassembiled i now have another issue the engine light is on and the valves or rockers can be heard and going above 2500 revs sounds too ticky and seem to lack power, im now going to recheck the timing again as i think it may not be top dead centre@@Dpfdoctor
redone cams they were both 1 tooth out and redone valve clearance, ute runs how its men't to now, light is on and i think i know why, the copper washers need replacing and could be causing blowby, will replace washers and see if light turns off, if not then i will do comp diagnosis for code, thanks for your feedback, it doe's help.@@Dpfdoctor
need to update you, i took battery cables off for 10mins+ to reset computer and the Engine light is now off, so that's good, but i must add the injectors have not been serviced for 13 years so i cleaned the injectors and saw the copper washers were worn out and should be replaced so once those are done im going to have a very reliable machine. :)
