I’ve been rock 15 inch Comp VR’s for years now. My first set of subs were 10 inch Comps back in 1992. I remember working my tail off at Hardees while I was in high school to buy those. I remember I paid $76 each for them and my buddy built me a box to put them in my 1981 Datsun 200sx. I will always be a loyal fan and customer. No one builds a better sounding or durable sub than Kicker.
It is refreshing to see a man of character, not afraid to stand for his beliefs. Long time kicker customer but this makes me even more loyal to the brand
I used to sell Kicker speakers in the 90's at my 1st car audio shop. I have worked at many shops and seen Stillwater Designs elevate Car Audio gear every year. SPL Competitions and CES trade shows, the industry taught me a lot. Congrats on 50 Years of Excellence
I’ve always liked and used “Kicker” gear. Im not into anything huge like competitions, I just like high volume & hard hitting bass in my vehicle. I started with CVR 12s in my car when I was in my 20s. Now Im in my 40s, I still use Kicker. All my subs, door and dash speakers (aka highs and mids) along with my amps are all Kicker. Keep on bringing the gear for our ear, so we can pump the sound and pound the ground. 😎 🔊. KICKER ALL THE WAY!
First system I had when I was 15 and 25 years ago still run kicker will never change they are the most reliable company and best customer support bar none
And oldschool kicker solobarics round ones are the best sq subs i heard many expencive new junk and it cannot compare to that oldschool low bass in small sealed enclosure
@@henryknox4511 yeah everything from kicker back in the day was good i just love solobarics in my opinion they are the best but i would love to have a pair of those for sure
I started to love bass when I was little. My cousin always had systems in his rides and remember he always had either mtx subs or kicker subs and fosgate amps. I remember the 12s kicker impulse in his single cab ford f-150 with a fosgate amp like a 150.2 in a sealed box behind the seat. It sounded so damn good!!! I later grew up and when I was 16 i got a pair of 10s cvrs. Those were the best subs ive ever owned that was back on like 2002-2003. I now have a pair of sundown sa8s on my crew cab silverado but best believe in waiting for the new kicker gold series to arrive on my local audio shop. Kicker is always gonna have a special place in my heart! Kicker paved the way to many new companies out right now and that deserves my respect!
The original still water gold label stitched woofers. It's been 33 years and I still own some and absolutely love them. The Kicker Separates were the bomb. Thank your Sir!!
What a great story! I was looking at Kicker products in the 80's, long before I could afford them. What a trip down memory lane. I still love Kicker to this day! Happy 50th! One year older than me!
I still have one of the original Still Water Designs boxes with the two 8" woofers and the two rectangle tweeters. I got it from my brother who blew the speakers in it, so I replaced the speakers and the tweeters and now I use it for my center channel on my home entertainment system. Love the fact this company started in the US, still operates in the US, and is a huge part of my generations history and culture.
Growing up I fell in love with car audio and kicker has always been a staple in the community. Always with good quality reliable products. Thank you to everyone at kicker
I still have my 20th anniversary jacket from Stillwater Designs 1973-1993. My friend Joe Cabela had 18 inch 15 inch 12 inch pairs of Stillwater Designs subwoofers in his 1992 Ford Bronco XLT along with all the separate speakers midbass midrange and had tweeters in the vents from Stillwater Designs his system was 8 thousand dollars. Also had P.P.I. amps and Altec Lansing 30 band trunk mount EQ with the Alpine 7909 CD player and 7385 cassette deck two Alpine 3321 11 band EQs one for left side audio one for the right side audio along with the Alpine security system. His system was 7200 watts 4000 watts bass 3200 watts midbass midrange and treble. His parents owned Cabela's the outdoor retail store in my hometown of Sidney Nebraska.
Not much talk about the east coast (specifically NYC and the surrounding areas) picking up on Kicker with a few distributors and the whole crazy Free Air Scene. It seems to me by 1987 these speakers came out of nowhere and took over where companies like Cerwin Vega, Kenwood, Lanzar, etc just fell off and local dealers were saying, try these. The next thing for my group was to pull backseats out and put in 4 10’s or 12’s and then it was more of a question of, What are we going to power these with? Very modest this man is. Great Video! I’m now out of that whole game (mostly due to alternators and batteries being so damn expensive and not easy to replace) that now my older self is listening to podcasts and the factory stereos are now at another level and extremely acceptable.
Serious question for you. All other things being equal (performance, specs, etc...) if we were to do that, how much more would the gear be worth? 10%? 20%? 50%? We all know the price of production would go up if that happens, and we have to keep on feeding 250 families that rely on Kicker to put a roof over their heads here in Stillwater. So, what do you think?
My first pair of store bought subwoofers were the Kicker Mohawk 10's. Sadly I never got to hear them and I can't remember what I did with them. Stillwater was my first favorite brand before I was introduced to Orion. Kicker still does and always will have a special place in my car audio heart. Thanks for introducing me to car audio when I was a young kid.
so it you. your the one who blowed by windows out. shaking my car till the door fell off. vibrated my bone like they was jelly. got me in trouble with johnny law. who pissed me mom off with all the boom boom boom. thank you sir. those are some dam good speakers
Met Mr Irby last yr at Slamology when I supposedly talked em into going, and he is a very nice an humble guy, was talking to em while walking to my truck to give em a demo of it!~
through the years, ive herd nice systems, strong subwoofers that shake cars, and set off alarms, but till this day i will never be as impressed as the first time i came to a stop 🛑, and ther was a 04 chevy suv just flaxing and bumping 🔊, was so impressed that i asked what he was runing, he tolld me 2 15" kicker comp r, will never forget that day.
Bring back the "K" on the speakers so iconic. I know the gold series is out but the K is when high school parking lots were battling it out after school who was bumping the loudest bass.
I always wanted to be sponsorship from kickers…..solo was slept on …. Great subs til to this day but now of days ppl don hand out products to just show yo city and state miss them days …..
@KICKER ive owned your products my self and its way better quality than fosgate and sundown a lot of people don't understand that kicker is more of a SQL brand instead of SPL like Sundown Audio I have Sundown Audio right now and it's nothing compared to kicker and if I could swap to 2 12" kicker l7s or 2 12 " comp Qs or even 2 L7 15"s I would in a heartbeat why because those subs love a lot of power don't get me wrong fellas but if you put 2,000 rms at 1ohm whether it's two 12s or 2:15 it's going to be hitting harder than heck problem is that with SPL Subs they start overheating right away and you can smell the voice coil right away that it gets hot with kicker since kickers made with SQL kicker subs do not get hot it'll take at least an hour for you to notice a weird smell as with Sundown it takes 20 minutes or less that's when you start smelling the subs that's why I don't like SPL Subs I'm going to be swapping back to you kicker because I want to be "LIVIN LOUD"
While there are some products that have parts assembled domestically, most everything is made in Asia (not just China). Now, here's the difference between us and most others: engineering. LOTS of it. All done here (Stillwater, OK). Wanna see? ua-cam.com/video/u4MJfPUKVfo/v-deo.html
I love the humility and grace of this man, Steve Irby. Go Kicker!! 🎉

I never knew the beginnings of Kicker. Very cool video. Even cooler is that glory is given to the rightful one, God.
Thanks for the comment! Its been a long, fun road to be sure.
Now knowing more of the history of this brand, I now developed a higher respect for Kicker. Glad to have their sub in my car
My Kicker Contender SS12 to my Zapco S80 to a Blaupunkt Berlin with radio gooseneck was audiophile heaven.
One of the best to ever do it, Steve is and will always be a legend.
A truly inspirational testimony. Thank you for sharing, and being a great witness of the blessings of The Most High.
Glory to God brother! Even more excited to represent Kicker now with your new L7 Solo X 15s !!
Nothing can compare to Kicker Bass I Absolutely love the kicker brand it’s really the truth in car audio L7 Subs are Monsters

The old kickers from 2012 especially the grey L7s and grey cvr's were the best made. These new models mess up easily.

@@KICKER-AUDIO my pleasure
Bring back the whole kicker gold line. From 6x9 to 6 1/2 I just ordered 4 15 kicker gold Wish they released the 18 inch
We just might. Nothing is off the table.
Bring back the Red black and white Kicker Logo.
Maybe in the future.
@KICKER-AUDIO you guys did the Gold series...Now do the Competition C series next. Then do a Solo Baric D Series. So much nostalgia in those Subs
I always heard back then that Kicker was either an off brand, or part of Rockford Fosgate. Always wanted to know, is there any truth to this? o.0
Absolutely zero truth to that. Steve Irby has always been the sole owner, and has always been based here in Stillwater, OK.
@@KICKER-AUDIO Thank you, I can put that rumor to rest..:)

Why does he talk like the Warhorse came before the Solo X? They didn't.
If it wasn't for you cat audio probably would been extinct
