Fantastic presentation! Very very helpful.
But there is something we need to keep in mind, which is that Parkinson's disease is not a disease of the muscle. Think about when your hand or leg falls asleep. It feels as if there is something wrong with the limb, but there isn't. What's happened, is the nerve contact with the brain has been disrupted. In this case, your fingers, or toes feel difficult to move, yet there is nothing wrong with these muscles. Building on this analogy, such is the case with Parkinsonianism. The breakdown is in the signals from the brain, and thus in communication in the brain itself -- a loss of sending proper signalling to the muscles while the muscles are fully intact. As a dopaminergic disorder, we can at least trace the cause to the brain itself, though unfortunately, then things become very complicated. Let's all do our best to further the funding of research of this disease since a cure is most certainly in sight.

Caring for my mother in law. She is 65 years old and has had 22 years with Parkinson’s diagnosis. Her father had it to, but much later in life. Her brother has it too now. The best way that I can describe that slowness of movements is to imagine doing everything while chest high in molasses

When my hands are in a certain position, I get tremors and it is upon relaxed state. I kept knocking things over | down. My Dr in Austin thought I had beginnings of Parkinson’s but since I have moved, I do not have a Dr who can address this. Stress has exacerbated this. I do take Pilates and most classes, I can do the work *(not the best but I am getting stronger) but sometimes, after many movements, I am super slow and then my muscles will not fire-feels like they just will not move *I noticed this last week on a certain series we did with our legs/hips then this week, did a similar series but could do the movement, although, not very fast.
54. My Dr started catching it 7 years ago when I told her it felt like I was walking through a thickness. I also was having trouble swallowing-it’s like I can’t contract my throat so pills would get stuck, despite drinking water-kept doing that choking where you drink a drink and it ‘goes down the wrong pipe’.
My head bobs too. But it does stop on it’s own at some point. Almost like a spasm.
Anyway, any advice as to what to ask for from a GP who is unreliable at best, would be helpful.

My friend was diagnosed with PD(Parkinson’s Disease) in the summer of 2012 and I was diagnosed 5 years ago. Her initial symptoms were quite noticeable so was mine. She first experienced weakness in her right arm and her speech and swallowing abilities were profoundly affected. She did so much to seek help for this disease, as she had been her brother's caregiver a few years earlier for the same disease. Not long term, but there are plenty of peer reviewed studies that show that regular, vigorous exercise can slow the progression of Parkinsons. In fact exercise is the only thing that has any significant empirical evidence of slowing the progression of Parkinson's.
