Awesome video. The use of the homemade press and pvc pipe for the gasket install were excellent ideas. Very thorough and detailed explanation of the all the gaskets and parts being replaced 👍
Thank you for the detailed video. My forks are also frame mounted and I couldn't find or enter the right search words lol. I'm Good to Go now. Much appreciated.
Good video , You made it look easier then it really is. I have done these on many makes of bikes and seen many people Fail trying it themselves and they end up calling me to help them get it back together. Floor jack and vice trick was even new to me . Thanks for all your videos you post !
Tripod Brotherman .... my uncle helped me with the forks on my 98 vstar 650 he really helped me make that motorsickle a fantastic running updated bike for my first large bike ...... you've done it enough that it definitely looks easy thanks for sharing this is gonna help
Thanks for the video. I just rebuilt mine on a 2011 fatboy Lo. I put the upper bolt in a vice, placed it on the floor, and pushed down on the shock assembly to get it back together. Less risk that way. The spring woulld hit the floor and not my face. I'm getting the lowers powder coated and they won't take them without the uppers removed.
So great video. im thinkin we both have a drawer that looks the same full of Harley specialty tools lol. Any ways right at the end you filled it with oil then went to put it on bike then this black rubber seal appeared what was that and is that for the softail models? im getting ready to rebuild mine as soon as my kit get here. looks straight forword enuff. but was just curious to that last seal coz you never mentioned it going on. its at 19:54 in the video
Great video ill definitely be referencing this video when i do mine. I was told sometimes the seal gets curled and you can reach in with a small pick and pull it back in position is this a thing that you ever run into, this is before rebuilding but noticing a little oil.
I got a question for you. I ride a ‘09 heritage. I’ve had medical issues with ankles so haven’t ridden in a bit. Checked the oil the other day….look very low. Filled up to fill line cold. Today ran the bike until hot, checked the oil. Now I’m way above fill line hot. Is it best to check when hot vs cold? I’m mechanically inclined when it comes to trucks….Harley’s are a different ball game.
Did you check the oil level before you fired it up? If so, the oil may have "sumped". If they sit for a while, oil can seep past the oil pump and collect in the engine. The oil in the tank will show low but when you start it up the oil collected in the engine will push back into the tank. I always check the oil level after running the bike for a few minutes. You can check it cold or hot as most dipsticks have both levels marked on them.
Great content. Looking to do my 04 Wide Glide with the same forks. Questioning the Drag Specialties parts. Heard the aftermarket stuff is not the same as the O.E.? Fork seals not as thick as originals etc. Did you match all the parts up? Did everything look the same? Thanks again for a great video
1 question, is there a con/bad to separating the seal while the forks are still mounted to the triple tree? I don't have a vice....yet. I removed the front tire and fender.
You can do it with the uppers still mounted in the triple trees. Not much different than having them mounted in a vice. The problem might be compressing the spring to get the top cap back on.

Great Tutorial. I especially liked the inner tube/Press Jig/PVC hacks. Great stuff for those of us who have not done this 1000 times.

Great instructional video, Bill!
Thanks. Just trying to teach people that you can do repairs yourself.
Nicely done, very thorough

Great video, I have to do the same thing to my 09 heritage Softail.
You were very detailed, and made it a lot less intimidating.
Thank you.
Great video. I was wondering how I would compress my spring on reassembly. Floor jack solution is genius. Thanks for sharing.

Great tutorial. I may be tempted to try my own when my seals go bad.
Thank you for the video. Well done!
Made it look real easy where you at I’ll bring you mine
It's really not that difficult. The first time is always the hardest.
You awesome 👏 thank you for the video

That's just the seal that I installed earlier, the lighting makes it more noticeable. I didn't add anything extra between frames.

I've never had a seal curl.
Thank you grate video
That is how to do an DYI video. Thank you sir
Great job
I like the improv. Tripod is handy

Thanks for the response. I haven't had any problems with the Drag Specialties parts. They looked good and fit just like the OEM parts.
Appreciate the info
thanks, j'ai mon écrou du haut qui s'est dévissé, vos explications vont m'aider. merci c'est cool..

I'm not sure what you are asking. Why wouldn't you remove the fork from the triple trees?
@WitchcraftCycleWorks I'm asking if it's possible to separate the fork seal while still mounted.
Prior to fork removal
You can do it with the uppers still mounted in the triple trees. Not much different than having them mounted in a vice. The problem might be compressing the spring to get the top cap back on.
@@WitchcraftCycleWorks thank you once again I appreciate you for replying, and supplying your knowledge. I just ordered a vice
What size wrench are you using for the pinch bolt? A 5/8 fits but is pretty loose. I just don't want to round the head
I'm pretty sure I used a 5/8".
Awesome, thank you sir
Lube the seal and all moving parts
