As a sports fan I miss players who stick with one team and care to take it to the top, working hard with passion and staying loyal to its colors. Here in european soccer we miss that too, new generations just care about themselves, stats and winning with the strongest team they can get. I see Magic&Bird like I see Paolo Maldini for example. Great, hardworking, focused, passionate men with a goal: taking their team to the top year after year. P.S. I don't remember the name of their documentary, but it's a must watch, it's very well done.
12:50 - A huge thing that Magic doesn't mention here, but you know is going through his mind as he tells this story, is how many of his "friends" from the NBA *_didn't_* support him. A few were openly mocking or critical, while many more said the right things in public, but joked about him and tore him down amongst themselves. So when Earvin talks about Larry being a true friend, he means it, and he knows how many were not...
I really admire both Bird and Magic. The documentary name is Magic & Bird: A Courtship of Rivals (2010 HBO). I am not sure this is the complete documentary link but I am sure you would love it. ua-cam.com/video/axbIoHqFaa8/v-deo.html
I have chills listening to this about when Magic came out with HIV.. I remember being in my early 20's.. everyone was still scared of HIV... If I'm not mistaken.. ppl didn't want to play with Magic anymore.. we didn't know back then how it was truly transmitted.. But to hear that Larry supported him.. that's amazing
Well, I have lived in New England my whole life... we have been pretty spoiled with sports up here in my lifetime. I almost walked into Bird in Boston at a Marriott hotel lobby. He's def my man, but how can you not just love Magic? These guys are special.
When I look at other sights, I rad that today's observers don't feel bird could play in today's league. I wish that they would watch your channel and hear what his peers have to say about the dominance of Larry birds play. Thanks, russell p.
I love hearing that Magic was so welcomed by Mom Bird. I'm a Mom and I would be the same way.. A good Mom will give respect as long as she's respected... and Magic was raised right and showed respect too.. I've raised 5 kids.. their friends were always welcome.. until they showed me disrespect... I didn't have to say anything.. my children would say.. you're out.. don't disrespect my Mom.
You asked about French Lick. There's a huge hotel, like a 1920's resort there. So with that you get a lot of hospitality staff, and a lot of them were young black men who played basketball all summer for recreation. There's also a pretty good outdoor court there which I played on the one time I was there. Larry Bird mentions how he learned the game on that court playing with the hotel guys. All this seems pretty unique to me, and I sort of doubt that Larry would have become the player he is in just any little Indiana town.
The game has not changed super much since those two exept for possible batter training in physic also basketboll just like other sports it has become more individual thats how i see it anyway
I LOVE how much Magic seems to genuinely love Larry, it's so cute
larry went with magic through tough times and always stayed his friend, no matter what the case was! thats a true friend!
I can see itin his eyes
These were truly big men. Giants on the court and in real life.
One of the greatest friendships in history. Easily the greatest friendship of rivals in sports history.
They recently named the eastern conference finals mvp the Larry Bird Award and the western conference finals mvp the Magic Johnson Award.

There's footage of Bird playing a game that night the Magic announced that he has HIV and you can visually see that Bird was very upset.

Crazy to think that NBA Championships weren''t prime time or even a big deal.
Excellent reaction

Making The Case For The 1986 Celtics would be great!

That is the name of his town and they used to call him the hick from French lick

Hi Shaka... French Lick, Indiana is Larry's home town.

Plus medical advances. If Larry had access to better medical treatments, he would’ve lasted more years 👍🏼
@@lynnhoffmann247 indeed he would 👍
Johnny Carson was the best talk show.
I mean, when would they have interacted with each other outside of the court when they played each other or at All-star events?
Bird better all
Around player no doubt. Love magic but Bird is the best all around player of all
I miss Dave
