Great band. Don't let these old guys fool you. They've been cutting edge innovators for over 3 decades and still sound fresh today. Wire along with Echo and the Bunnymen, another ridiculously underated band, belong in anyones Hall of Fame.
Yeah, the early 80's was a tough time for this classic/hard rock devotee. But Crocodiles smacked me in the mouth, and I've been hooked on Echo ever since. It's incredible to me that they're barely known.
Being at the same age as these wonderful guys, I have ‘grown up with them’ and have their music close to my heart. Also all their side-projects. Very happy they’re still around! Thank you WIRE!
Wire is a truly remarkable band. My entry point (and favorite "era") was Read & Burn / Send, but everything they've put out since has been consistently great; I can't think of any other band from their time whose newer music can touch Wire's. And that's not even bringing up their iconic first three albums, or the weird, wonderful artsy synthpop and sound experiments they released in between. Total legends!
First saw Wire at Club Lingerie in Hollywood some 40 years ago...great show and great band! One of my 'desert island' records is Colin Newman's 'Provisionally Titled The Singing Fish'.
_The Offer_ - I think i know what this was written about, I certainly know what it means to me. Wire is not just a great band in so many ways- they inevitably reach in a grab your soul and shake it like a dog with a toy. And we come back for more. Thanks Colin, thanks Edvard, thanks Robert, thanks Matthew, and thanks to Bruce. You taught me to interpret and appreciate poetry.
My first time hearing Wire didn't happen until the mid to late 80's. My first purchase was their Pink Flag LP. I was gut hooked from then on. To this day that LP, 154 & Chairs Missing are among my all time favs.
I remember their albums being advertised on the inner sleeves on some of the LP's I had owned around 1980 - and I'm listening to their actual Music for the very first time only 40 years later, right now! :-O
Love Wire, but it always amuses me that they were a huge influence on Ian MacKay/Minor Threat. Watching this the connection wouldn’t be obvious. The is something so angular, clinical and aloof about Wire that would seem the antithesis of MacKay’s vision. But then listen to the Pink Flag album there ii is. A musical if not ideological blue print for hardcore. I also love that Wire used to hire a tribute act as support so they wouldn’t need to bother with the old material.
NPR's Tiny concert a goode outlet for Artists now adayes during the lockdown and shutdown interesting times the world is going through. Thanks NPR. (Radio Times).
My favourite Wire song ever. Remembers me to a party in 1980 when I was so young and felt so old before the song started. It kicked my sadness in the arse and saved my day, perhaps even more. Everybody was getting on the dancefloor freaking out. Even though they didn't play the song at TD to me the concert was brillant anyway🤓👍.
Talked to Colin in 88 when he was sitting in Mute offices in L.A. and told him “The Offer” should be the single. He didn’t think so. I still think he was wrong
You’re probably already deep diving into their stuff, but you have to check out their album Pink Flag. One of the best post-punk albums ever in my opinion. And the title track is all kinds of awesomeness.
Check out Mission of Burma, Bauhaus, something a bit harder but classic "indie" diy, stuff... Fugazi. If you haven't heard Fugazi, it's a must. Steady Diet of Nothing is a great to place to start.
Real pleasure to watch Wire in 2020, in the 80's Colin Newman was still turned towards his amp... but great sound , Robert played sometime with Fad Gadget.
I only know one song by them even though I own the "The Ideal Copy" album from 1986. Unfortunately, they didn't perform it, "Ahead". I still love that song and have the MP3 on my phone.
My intro to Wire, in a SF club in '87. Immediately ran out and bought everything I could find, including the first three obviously. Favorite band since.
Wire is one of the most important bands from the punk and post-punk era. Original and always choosing unbeaten paths. So happy they're still around.

to be honest want to see Echo and the Bunnymen on tiny desk concert
Nice comment mate

Pink Flag was one of the best albums ever made. Period.
Nearly as good as 154..
@@redplanet2010 Eh, you're entitled to your opinion I suppose.
First three are easily one of the best album trilogies ever made. Chairs Missing is my favorite though
Never heard of her.
@@redplanet2010 better I think
Oh, Wire! You're my favorite band in all the world
Mein too
Being at the same age as these wonderful guys, I have ‘grown up with them’ and have their music close to my heart. Also all their side-projects. Very happy they’re still around! Thank you WIRE!
Great post-punk art-punk alternative rock band the end of the 70s, the beginning of the 80s and until today
These guys are still way ahead of their time .....what do you call that .....beyond timelessness?
You know they're good when the young guy is giving them a smiling nod all the time.

Wire and Magazine... Best two bands to take us by the hand.
I'll never forget the night I saw Magazine perform ... haven't heard anything like that since..... I think it was in Los Angeles in 1981.....

French Film Blurred is such a badass song.

It took me a minute but I’m digging this!
Of course, the Tiny Desk crew is spot on delivering a near perfect mix!

I mean it’s WIRE playing tiny desk cmon!!bravo
It’s so refreshing to hear real punk rock is still raw
Almost 50 years with most of the original members, I love Wire so much their music has inspired me greatly.
In my top 3 tiny desks of all time. Got me back into wire after all these years away.
Not mediocre, not acoustic and not depressing. And it's WIRE. Thank you! Definitely a thumb up! 👍🎶
Brilliant, timeless band. So much personality and talent

To this day that LP, 154 & Chairs Missing are among my all time favs.
yes! legendary band
Have been my favorite band since I first heard them in the mid-'80s. The (expansive/abundant) solo/offshoot material is just as essential.
I remember their albums being advertised on the inner sleeves on some of the LP's I had owned around 1980 - and I'm listening to their actual Music for the very first time only 40 years later, right now! :-O
Made my morning seeing these guys on here. Cheers!

I think you can hear their influence on Ian Mackaye a little more directly through Fugazi
@@kevbo1024 yep, though an MT did cover 12XU to pretty incendiary effect on Flex Your Head.
Brings me back to Bonnington Square ! fantastic mini set WIRE - yes Wayne is right - cutting edge. Intelligent too.
Post Punk Perfection - Totally Wired ...
Wonderful band
Fascinating. After 45 years, these guys are still true, and they still have edge.
Classic!
Love these guys. National treasures that fate keeps conspiring to keep me from seeing live.
legendary

WIRE!!!
Anyone new to this band. Mind give great album but for god sake listen to A Bell is a Cup until it is struck.
Glad we are listening to live tunes again..my life is way better
I have been listening to live tunes all along. If not recorded over internet, older performances that have been released; this was recorded in march.
I don’t mind the production on their mk.III albums but it’s always a treat to hear some of the newer songs with less studio effects.
Still think ‘Map reference’ by wire is the most radical wonderful single ever produced!
French Film Blurred as trippy as ever. Wire forever.
this is a gift!
finding this made an average Tuesday night slightly special
Here it is. Again. And its called. 1 2 X U !!!!!!
