Obviously the movie has a plot and everything, but I think first and foremost it’s about kids just being kids and enjoying discovering the world and making friends. Pixar is good at that, capturing the pure joy that comes with life.
Luca is a masterpiece. Its credits even happily show more of the characters' story in adorable illustrations but the tear-jerker is in the final dedication. “This Film is Dedicated to Alberto Surace, Patty Ann Buchholz Willrett (1974-2020) and all the friends who pulled us out of the water and helped us find our way.”😂

After two viewings, Luca became my favorite Pixar movie (I’ve now seen it over 14 times). The way the characters were written and portrayed as well as the themes and messages really spoke to me. For example, Giulia’s family situation (split family and feeling like an outsider in a different city when going to visit your other parent) and how it was treated by not making it a big deal like it is in so many pieces of media. This is something I’ve basically been dealing with for my entire life and it felt nice to have it be recognized that not all families are perfect but that just because they’re not doesn’t mean they can’t work. Luca’s curiosity and drive to learn more about the world around him also really resonated with me. And I see him in the end going to stay in the human world while balancing and accepting his differences as a loose metaphor for immigration. My mom and dad are German immigrants to the U.S and my step mom is a Colombian immigrant and they all still have lots of family in their respective countries. While I’m in the U.S and have to figure how to balance my cultural heritage and family with the ideas and culture of where I live. I was also kind of the outsider/weird kid in school too and the trio friendship setup is almost the same with the friends I had in grade school (and still friends to this day) so it was nice to remember that. The movie’s way of portraying acceptance and talking about it also helped me to do some introspection of myself and helped me to acknowledge and accept the fact that I’m asexual. Luca may be a simple movie plot wise but the profound way it has affected me and the time it’s come at the end of a major cycle of personal growth (graduating high school, starting college, reconnecting with my mom’s side of the family and restoring a line of communication that had been broken for almost 15 years, losing several friends and family members, surviving a pandemic) has solidified it as one of my favorite movies of all time.
Even tho this movie has very simple, down to earth plot and goes for making people feel wholesome feels with adorable designs, it's not done lazily in any aspect and I REALLY appreciate that. Especially in face of all the lazy, poorly made corporate garbage from Illumination studio which always aims to exploit "feel good" needs of all the normies.
This movie hit me so hard. I was the only gay kid growing up in a very homophobic small town in wisconsin. The face they make when someone finally accepts them made me bawl my eyes out.
There is going to be a Pixar movie placed in Canada, actually! The name's Red, and the writer/producer/director (I don't remember which one) made it based on things she felt growing up as a Chinese descendant.

The director doesn’t deny it. He has replied to the inquiries about the LGBT parallels in the movie and said every viewer interpretation is valid and that he loves that people can relate to it that way. So he never out right confirmed it, but he never denied it either.

Hi, here's your favorite italian to explain some easter eggs; The guy in the picture on Alberto's vespa is Marcello Mastroianni, an actor from the 50s/60s. Don't worry, non of us actually knew who he was, only our grandparents could've recognize him (maybe). I love this movie, the simplicity of the plot is really well done and just an overall really enjoyable experience. One thing that really resided with me was the whole allegory for LGBT+ people, coming out, and acceptance. There was some really telling lines/scenes in there that I liked (“some people will never accept him, but some will, and he seems to know how to find the good ones” 🥲) and the two ladies revealing their true forms in the end . Loved the reaction, can’t wait to see what’s next!
I love this movie, the plot is kinda small but it's so wholesome and still really manages to get in your feelings, I'd love for them to expand on what happens when Luca and Guillia comes back next summer

The whole movie was so wholesome and feel good. And I'm not going to lie, the ending had me in tears, especially Alberto's goodbye to Luca. I cannot wait for the short headed to Disney + featuring Alberto and Massimo.💚💜
man i cant even find the words for how much this movie left an impact on me as a queer person living in a very homophobic country. i know that its debatable if this is a metaphor for queerness or not but i think everyone projects their own experiences, and im projecting mine. this movie, man... i dont usually cry watching movies but "some people will never accept him, he just has to find the ones that do" really hit me, especially in relation to how my own family treats me now that im out of the closet. not to mention i really get the vibes of "first queer crush" out of alberto and luca, like they dont understand what theyre feeling because no one let them know that they could feel that way. its really one of the best movies ive seen in the last few years
The true magic of a good film is when it inspires the imagination in your head, and when it can bring you into the magical world it portrays. In your case, it did both! Also, that was a very good personal analysis and reflection on the movie. Thanks for the interesting read! :)
Thank you for this reaction. It make me watch the movie. I think, this movie is just amazing, so kind and positive. And it's so well drawn. And it gave me very strong Miyazaki vibes.
Thought this movie was cute when I first watched it, and a masterclass in storytelling (all this emotion for a plot that revolved around a Vespa?? Pixar you absolute mad lads x). Then when I watched it a second time with my family, I totally fell in love with it. The characters, setting and everything is done so well in such a subtle way, I feel like it just really grows on you the more you watch it. As a budding writer myself, I plan to spend a very cozy afternoon studying Luca to figure out this ✨magic✨ XD
There’s a theory that the Bruno in “SILENZIO BRUNO” is Alberto’s dad because he’s not in the picture and his dad might say non encouraging stuff to him so Alberto has to shut him out
From Pixar starring Luca, a boy sea monster who appears human when he ventures outside. He and his friend Alberto dream of owning a Vespa, which is a type of motorcycle. But first they must earn it via a competition
Seeing Red (the next Pixar movie, coming out in 2022) will be set in Toronto! Here are some of the references: -Portorosso is named after the Studio Ghibli movie Porco Rosso. It's based on Cinque Terre, the coastal area of Liguria in the north of Italy which has five cities that look like this. -The picture of the actor was of Marcello Mastroianni, in the movie Divorce, Italian Style from 1961. -The movie they were watching was Big Deal on Madonna Street from 1958. -There's a bunch of movie posters for movies like La Strada and Roman Holiday. -The character Giulia Marcovaldo is named after Marcovaldo, the series of short stories by Italo Calvino. There's also a Calvino Plaza in the town.
That scene on the beach. I was not expecting it, and it was painful. I didn't cry, but I swear some of my breath was taken away. And that's rare for me.
Yes, Luca did sort of betray Alberto, but to be fair, Alberto was trying to ruin Luca's friendship with Giulia first. They both were to blame. Thankfully, they forgave each other and got past it.
Yeah the name Luca even matches the name of the director of a movie about two young same sex Italians who develop feelings for one another. It just seems too coincidental.
People saying the Alberto is gay are idiots When we are kids when we like another kid we dont care about race or gender Even when we are Grown ups many times we guys feel jealous of the girlfriend of ours bestfriends because we know he will not have 100% time for us
I get what u mean with the gay stuff, but Pixar did actually come forward themselves and confirmed Luca and Alberto are not gay, they said they had no intention of it while making the movie
36:30 If you want there's a short of 8 minutes about Alberto's life in Porto Rosso after some days Luca left. I swear I watched like 10 times and I still cry in less than those 8 minutes 😢❤
I really dont want a Luca sequel. Not that I think it doesnt deserve one, but that it deserves NOT to have one. I'd love a series of films in a similar style, but this should be a stand alone and completed story untouched by corporate greed and a pillar for movies to come.
There's a Canadian Disney film it's called Brother Bear, it's about the indigenous people of Canada. And the closest thing we have to a Jamaican Disney anything is Sebastian the crab in The Little Mermaid, which Luca is very similar to in some aspects.
I love this movie it captures exactly the vibes of my childhood summers in Italy. As an Italian was very beautiful to see it portrayed so good, also Alberto voice actor is Italian himself ♡ I love your reaction so much! Can I ask you to do Frozen 1 and 2 or Onward???? I would love to hear your opinions on the brothers/sisters relationship portrayed in movies! Have a great day!
20:33 In the television there's one of the many famous Italian movies from '50s with as main actor the guy from the picture Alberto had on the vespa he and Luca were first riding together. Sorry for not remmebering his name tho 😅😅
If you liked Luca, I think you'll really like the short Ciao Alberto that can be found on Disney+ (sadly, they didn't include it in the Luca disc release). It is about 7-8 minutes long and shows Alberto and Massimo soon after Luca and Guilia leave for school.
My favorite movie of all time, and a movie I think you should check out, is Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996). It's got amazing plot, characters, and music!

Also...there are *other* things that I"forgot",for example the fact that none of the songs from this movie has *anything* to do with the plot, but they are just a bunch of random old italian songs and the *only one* that would have fit this movie PERFECTLY since it's literally about riding a Vespa("50 Special"by Lunapop)it's not in the movie because it's a song from the '90!And I could have also added that,as an Italian,I'm disappointed that in the italian version they didn't take the chance to make the characters talk in the local dialect, possibly when the characters were speaking Italian in the English version. I mean...the characters from"Brave"and"Dragon Trainer"have Scottish accents in the original version, why can't the characters from"Luca"and"Pinocchio"have Ligurian and Tuscan accents in the italian versions?!? It would make sense!!But no!We have to always dub everything in plain, standard Italian!🙄And,last but not least,I could have complained because I *personally* don't like how the characters look and how simple and"ordinary"the plot is! It could be 1 of those movies you find on TV during holiday afternoons that you watch once, you have fun for 1 hour and 1/2 and then you forget, because it's just like *tons* of other similar movies and TV shows you've seen elsewhere!😓But no,since it's Pixar it *HAS* to be a MASTERPIECE!🙄 I could have said *all these things* and I stopped myself in order not to sound too mean. So,seriously, pal, next time...KEEP YOUR POINTLESS CRITICISM TO YOURSELF,please and thank you!😠#DontProvokeMe
Actually, the walking and riding a bike could make sense. A major factor in humans learning to walk and ride bikes is needing to build physical muscle mass as well as the actual movement. Luca has been swimming his entire life, so he likely has all the muscles needed to do these things, he just needs to learn the physical movement. Also, the physics of falling can be weird, so depending on how you land, you can have very different results. Also, falling through branches actually does reduce the chance of serious damage, because it keeps you from building momentum.
Am I the only one who kept thinking throw out watching the whole movie - this is gay af and I'm here for it! There are just so many gay undertones to it!
This movie is beautiful. I don't think there will be a sequel, BUT, there is a corresponding short film that takes place after the events of this movie that I think you'd love. I know you don't usually do reaction to short films, but it would be cool if you wanted to try that with this one.
If you liked Luca, you should react to the movie Wolfwalkers. It's another friendship story but with two girls who can turn into wolves instead of sea monsters. It's also produced by a studio from Ireland in 2020 and what's makes this different, is it's 2D animated. Lastly, I don't mean to sound cocky but in my opinion, this movie in better than Luca. Either way, you'll definitely love this one. Hoping you'll consider!
Obviously the movie has a plot and everything, but I think first and foremost it’s about kids just being kids and enjoying discovering the world and making friends. Pixar is good at that, capturing the pure joy that comes with life.

The ending really moved me as well. Caught me off guard. Watched this with my 5 year old son and had tears streaming down my face.
All the songs are famous here in Italy 😁🔝🥰 love this movie 🇮🇹
I watched this right before I moved across the country and bawled like a baby at the end 🙃🙃🙃👌🏻👌🏻
Seeing Red (the next Pixar movie, coming out in 2022) will be set in Toronto!
Here are some of the references:
-Portorosso is named after the Studio Ghibli movie Porco Rosso.
YOU SHOULD TOTALLY WATCH ANASTASIA!! Underrated classic!!
Pleeease react to Brother Bear! Hugs from Brazil
That scene on the beach. I was not expecting it, and it was painful. I didn't cry, but I swear some of my breath was taken away. And that's rare for me.
The Willoughbys it’s such a great kids movie with a powerful message i think you’ll love it❤️❤️
Can anyone else argue with me that Luca is the Pixar version of the little mermaid
This is one of my favorite movies to watch with my daughter ❤I cry every time
Luca and Coco are the best Disney’s movies ever 👌
Yes, Luca did sort of betray Alberto, but to be fair, Alberto was trying to ruin Luca's friendship with Giulia first. They both were to blame. Thankfully, they forgave each other and got past it.
You should watch The Iron Giant one day 💖 its such a good movie with amazing animation and some emotional moments that might make you cry lol
I second this!
“Does Alberto like her?” Very much not lmao. It is debated that Alberto actually likes Luca and the whole movie is a reference.
Yeah the name Luca even matches the name of the director of a movie about two young same sex Italians who develop feelings for one another. It just seems too coincidental.
People saying the Alberto is gay are idiots
When we are kids when we like another kid we dont care about race or gender
Even when we are Grown ups many times we guys feel jealous of the girlfriend of ours bestfriends because we know he will not have 100% time for us
I get what u mean with the gay stuff, but Pixar did actually come forward themselves and confirmed Luca and Alberto are not gay, they said they had no intention of it while making the movie
@4tchilling956 um it was confirmed my one of the screen writers
Luca’s dad is voiced by Jim Gaffigan.
There is a show coming in November called "Ciao Alberto"
36:30
If you want there's a short of 8 minutes about Alberto's life in Porto Rosso after some days Luca left. I swear I watched like 10 times and I still cry in less than those 8 minutes 😢❤
Luca was an amazing movie, way better than I thought it would be. Your reaction was great, I'm glad you liked this one!
I really dont want a Luca sequel. Not that I think it doesnt deserve one, but that it deserves NOT to have one. I'd love a series of films in a similar style, but this should be a stand alone and completed story untouched by corporate greed and a pillar for movies to come.
A good Pixar movie, that doesn't really get enough credit is Onward, it's a pretty heartwarming movie. You should definitely react to it
This whole movie was a Norman Rockwell painting. 😍
i don't remember the 1st Cars movie infortunetly, but the 3th for me is 👌 the best !
I don't know if you have seen Moana or not, but if you haven't you should definitely react to it. I think you would really enjoy it.
There's a Canadian Disney film it's called Brother Bear, it's about the indigenous people of Canada. And the closest thing we have to a Jamaican Disney anything is Sebastian the crab in The Little Mermaid, which Luca is very similar to in some aspects.
I love how you said italian dollars 😂
Its Euro ;)
I love this movie it captures exactly the vibes of my childhood summers in Italy. As an Italian was very beautiful to see it portrayed so good, also Alberto voice actor is Italian himself ♡ I love your reaction so much! Can I ask you to do Frozen 1 and 2 or Onward???? I would love to hear your opinions on the brothers/sisters relationship portrayed in movies! Have a great day!
I would love to see a Luca 2, and there are talks about the director willing to make one ^^
20:33
In the television there's one of the many famous Italian movies from '50s with as main actor the guy from the picture Alberto had on the vespa he and Luca were first riding together.
Sorry for not remmebering his name tho 😅😅
That movie talks to my Italian roots so much !
If you liked Luca, I think you'll really like the short Ciao Alberto that can be found on Disney+ (sadly, they didn't include it in the Luca disc release). It is about 7-8 minutes long and shows Alberto and Massimo soon after Luca and Guilia leave for school.
Great reaction! This movie is just so comfortable, and I love the images in the end credits!
Thou hast disappointed me, not a single mention of how freakin adorable the sea monsters are?
I wonder what would the world of Luca be like in Kingdom Hearts if it might make it in?
3:46 ‘Turning Red’, the upcoming Pixar film, is set to take place in Canada I think.
It’s been 4 months since, I got a chance to watch Luca during Father’s Day.
To be fair Alberto pushed Luca into a corner and he panicked. Plus, they were just fighting. I see how these events played out.
Seeing Luca later this week🌅good review ,thanks JV 💯👏
The dad reminds me of the dad from cloudy with a chance of meatballs
My favorite movie of all time, and a movie I think you should check out, is Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996). It's got amazing plot, characters, and music!
Between this and Encanto I suspect there is a Bruno in the world who really pissed off someone at Disney. But, we don't talk about him.
Lmao my parents are Jamaican too. Caribbean people have a look to them. I should have known 🤣
"Turning Red" will be set in Toronto, Canada. So you'll get your Canadian Pixar movie in March 2022! :)
“Does he like her?”
“Or… he’s jealous that she’s taking away his friend.”
*muffled screaming*
I am Italian and there are a lot of italian music and Italian TV references... Most from the 80s/90s
06:40 - 06:43 As soon as he said that I was like:"Oh,OK,he's an orphan.🙄"
14:09 - 14:13 *Italian dollars!!!* 😂😂😂 I don't know why,but that made me laugh SO MUCH!!
14:40 Yeah, sure, humans spend *years* learning how to walk and ride bikes, but movie doesn't have time for this.🙄
19:56 - 19:59 *HIM.
23:04 The poster says"Attack of the Sea MONSTER".
27:33 - 27:40 You SHOULDN'T be OK after a fall like that!!!You should either be dead or badly injured!!!Your gravity sucks at its job!!!
You forgot one. Sea monsters aren’t real. Seriously dude it’s just a movie
@@edgarretana8377 Suspension of disbelief ≠ inconsistency.
I mean...the Mexican got that *HEARTBREAKING MASTERPIECE* that it's"Coco"and we get *THIS?!?* A movie about 2 boys going on holiday while copying what"The Little Mermaid"and"Siren"have already done better(showing mermaids wanting to live in the human world and/or facing the racism of landpeople against merpeople)?!?!And what makes it even worse is that everyone is treating this movie like it's a masterpiece only because it's from Pixar and has a great CGI when,in reality,it's a FINE movie.Nothing more. It could be 1 of those movies you find on TV during holiday afternoons that you watch once, you have fun for 1 hour and 1/2 and then you forget, because it's just like *tons* of other similar movies and TV shows you've seen elsewhere!😓But no,since it's Pixar it *HAS* to be a MASTERPIECE!🙄
I could have said *all these things* and I stopped myself in order not to sound too mean.
@@PixieoftheWood Good points.
But(I'm just being a dick now)falling on branches shouldn't _at least_ give you scratches?;-P
This movie is a gem and I love it
Me: *Cat randomly appears in the back*
Aight that settles it. I gotta hop on that Patreon. These are some of the better reactions on UA-cam.
I am not really Italian but I am part Italian but I am actually learning the language which is nice oh well
such a sweet story
Luca is my name
Am I the only one who kept thinking throw out watching the whole movie - this is gay af and I'm here for it! There are just so many gay undertones to it!
This movie is beautiful. I don't think there will be a sequel, BUT, there is a corresponding short film that takes place after the events of this movie that I think you'd love. I know you don't usually do reaction to short films, but it would be cool if you wanted to try that with this one.
You need to watch Finding Nemo!
If you want to watch something Jamaican then the closest one for now is "Moana"(2016) from Polynesia
My jaw hurts from trying not to cry 😂😂
If you liked Luca, you should react to the movie Wolfwalkers. It's another friendship story but with two girls who can turn into wolves instead of sea monsters. It's also produced by a studio from Ireland in 2020 and what's makes this different, is it's 2D animated. Lastly, I don't mean to sound cocky but in my opinion, this movie in better than Luca. Either way, you'll definitely love this one. Hoping you'll consider!
You need to watch The Boy and the Beast and Summer Wars. Two of my all time favourite anime movies, I guarantee they will make you cry haha.
"Italian dollars"
Come on bro 😭
You should watch Shrek next. Truly an amazing franchise
