Here’s my review:
- they ARE comparable to Ray Bans. You get what you pay for though. The material is clearly cheaper.
- the polarization is nearly identical.
- I broke a pair by hitting them on a door threshold. Wasn’t a lot of force, but the plastic doesn’t have much give. Emailed Shady Rays. Sent me a new pair. Didn’t even ask for proof. I could even choose a another pair.

Thank you. People don’t understand that some other people have major anxiety about breaking things and my gf is one of them. She wears DOLLAR store sunglasses daily and like if I got her ray bands I don’t think she could wear them to often purely out of the fact of price and fear of breaking them. Shady rays here I come.
I have a variety of pairs of raybans and i have seen that they have dropped in quality over the years. My newest one i got them about 2 months ago they creaked right out of the box. Right now I’m looking at other brands maybe some that are American made

FYI Ray ban makes polycarbonate (plastic) lenses and glass lenses, it just depends on the model you buy. In fact Oakley and many other premium brands make plastic lenses bc of their impact resistance/durability and weight reduction. Oakley actually dose not make a single glass lens in their lineup, they are strictly polycarbonate.

This is all accurate , However you do get what you pay for . I personally wear Costa 580P Poly Carb. I have tried these cheaper sub 70-80 dollars , and what i found out is the Polarization on cheaper lenses is awful. I still stand by Costa because they have fixed any pair to new for usually half the price of a new pair. Yes it is a pain to ship , but still. This could change as they were bought out by luxxotica , and Daytona location is closing.

Caleb Niederhofer unfortunately they are expensive. It’s hard to justify spending 200-300$ on sunglasses for sure! They do make sport models for around $150 but that’s as low as they go.
I have both Ray Bans and Shady Rays and while the Ray Bans have a more premium feel, I actually prefer the lighter weight and polycarbonate lenses of the Shady Rays. While the Ray Bans may use a higher grade polyacetate in the frames and employ double hinges, this would only add 3-4 dollars to the manufacturing cost of the glasses, so you are still paying for brand, marketing and perception with the Ray Bans. Also, the Ray Ban business model sucks. They want to sell you a pair of $200 overpriced sunglasses that you have to stress about losing or breaking outside of the one year warranty. Shady Rays has it right and knows that sunglasses are meant be be worn, lost or broken. You get a pair of decent glasses at a reasonable price and it comes with peace of mind. I will still buy Ray Bans, but I’ll only wear them when I know they won’t be lost or broken, but then again, kind of defeats the purpose, no?
The "plastic" you refer to is poly carbonate, which is generally more costly and durable than glass lenses.

I have a pair of the shady rays oakmont classics and have received three pairs. They replaced my products with no questions asked and the glasses have been holding up really well. They look and feel great!
My favorite glasses and ones that I will mostly wear everyday are my ray-bans new wayfarer classic matte black. But I bought a pair of shady rays because I really wanted to try them out. I bought the signature series blackout incognito SR pro polarized and they are badass. I paid 65 dollars for them and I think they are totally worth that price.

I got a pair in the other day. They are decent quality. Idk if they’ve changed anything since this review but the lens are made of glass on these. The framing seems to be held together and doesn’t feel cheap like gas station glasses do but at the same time 58.00 is a little steep for these but at the same time raybans, which are nicer, are 154.00 avg price and that’s a bit over the actual value of them. So in the end it’s more or less a budget thing. I don’t really regret getting these. I like them.
If you’re considering getting a pair of shadyrays then go for it. I see a lot of people in the comments who’ve never owned a pair knocking them but I do own a pair so listen to an opinion that matters. and before you ask yes I’ve got a pair of ray bans and I’ve got a pair of jade blacks and enemies. Maybe the companies changed since a year ago but the aviators I got were just as sturdy as my ray bans, weighed a lot less, and they offer glass lenses. I chose to go pc because I don’t like the idea of razor edge shrapnel in my eyes. For 45 bucks with a discount code you get a stainless steel frame and polarized lenses, fit and finished damn well. They’re my worry free pair and they haven’t let me down yet so I’ll go to bat all day for this company.
I think he had the basic polarized pair. Shady Ray's actually offers some of their glasses with an SR Extreme Edition upgrade. It includes things like increased frame durability, anti-reflective lens coating, and hydrophobic lens coating to repel liquid. They even have blacked out logos on the side which makes them look much better IMO. I think the Aviators have a more premium feel because of the higher price point. Due to the metal frame alone, I think that's why they feel sturdier than his pair. I don't own a pair of Shady Rays, but I've had some Ray-Ban sunglasses in the past and just purchased another pair of New Wayfarers and a pair of Persols. I'm definitely looking to buy a pair of them for going to the beach and to the pool because if something happens to them it's not the end of the world and I would rather keep my $400 Persols in pristine condition.

Now I buy Shady Rays, I have 3 different pairs. I scratched the lens one and they replaced them, no problems.
The lens quality is excellent and if you don't like polarised glasses I don't know what is wrong with you.

The entire thing is that you get two free replacements and you just pay shipping, whether you break them or just lose them they don’t care so you’re paying for the other two replacements that you could get for free in the one time payment, I am personally going to order one and then get my two replacements within a couple months so I have a few back up sets of sunglasses. Basically three sets of glasses for $50- $60

They dont have hardly any non polarized option. And that's a bad thing? You can stick with glass lens non polarized ray bans. I think that the people who are buying the shady Ray's are people who want durable glasses that have a lifetime warranty and polarized lenses for a more active lifestyle

I completely disagree with all of the other comments. This was a fantastic review. I now know that if I want a pair I could be wasting the $48 bucks. Thanks for the honest review. I have heard review after review and get a product to find out it is nothing like the review. I hope companies still send you products.
I have 3 pairs of shady rays, 4 pairs of Oakleys, and a pair of Maui Jim's. The Shady's are great for the price and the warranty. I don't have to worry about them like I do my 200+ dollar Maui Jim's or 100+ dollar Oakleys . I would say that value wise they are worth more than the Oakleys. I have a special edition Ventura pair that is my favorite of all besides the Maui Jim's.
Thanks for your review, they are just $19 for Black Friday so I'll pull the trigger :D I usually wear Oakleys and do love the Ray-Ban Caravans (which I like for important ocassions) but for a daily driver, these might do :D

I just bought 2 pair for $24 a piece, now you got me worried. I'm a truck driver and go through a pair a year, I've been buying ray bans and figured I'd give these a try.

This dude is the guy that you go to the movies with and then he nitpicks every second of the film the entire drive home and tells you how it isnt as good as *insert movie name here*. A real review would be to just focus on the materials, how they feel cheaper, etc. Those are valid complaints. Saying "I wanted the free thing I got to be non-polarized and also these are not ray bans and I am so erect for ray bans" is not a review.

Shady Ray will never outdo Ray-Ban because Ray-Ban has a chromemance lens which is just awesome. If ever get Ray bans they would be with the
chromemance lenses.
They're made out of that soft material where it makes them nearly impossible to clean the lenses I hate that soft material

Personally, I don't want to she'll out a bunch of cash for glasses that will get abused on river trips to steelhead and salmon fish. I just want decent polarization so that I can spot where fish are laying. I've had Costa, Maui Jim, Ray Ban etc. Loved them. But I'm hard on gear while fishing and hunting so for those purposes I feel the Shady Rays are a great compromise. Plus their replacement warranty is hard to beat.

I bought a different brand a few years ago that marketed themselves as being premium quality but sold at a smaller profit margin over manufacturing costs. I waited with anticipation because I was excited to move past gas station sunglasses. What arrived were clearly has station sunglasses. When I see that brand on my Facebook feed, or others that clearly are doing the same thing like Shady Rays or Blenders it kinda pisses me off. I always call them out

I buy costa Del Mar’s all the time I’m going to try them. But I love plastic lens because I work construction so plastic is the way to go

They’re worth it. You can also easily get them for $30 because they’re always discounted. You buy one pair, you’re technically buying 3. Because you can replace them 3 times man. Definitely worth it, his review is ass.
I think the answer to the price you pay for these are that your guaranteed a replacement if lost or damaged. Which may be a big deal if you are on the water a lot and tend to loose your glasses in the water.
And Ray Ban does have plastic lenses. My $300 pair bought at the ray ban store in Cali had plastic lenses.

They are basically a very cheap 10 dollar gas station style glasses with a good warranty. Just got my first pair a couple weeks ago and they sat so crooked on my face that it was just a joke. I couldn't twist them into a remotely wearable position. Sent them back and got another pair...still crooked and twisted, only slightly less. They'll be going back as well.
Yeah but at the gas station you can lose your glasses and get another pair sent to you which is good because then you don't have to worry about spending that much on your glasses. I have a pair of Oakley holbrooks with the American flag as the Oakley symbol and I get nervous leaving those anywhere cuz they're like 150 bucks. Plus I'm super hard on my glasses anyways so I go through them quite often so this company will send you up to two replacement repairs if you damage them or lose them or their stolen. So they're probably only like 20 $30 glasses. But you're not going to spend 20-30 bucks at the gas station and then get a warranty and get two additional pairs if needed. I'll definitely be ordering some of these.

I commented them on Twitter about the logo on the side and they suggested I buy the pair with the logo in black. I would love to try a pair just for the cheaper price but I'm not buying any brand with a giant logo on the side like that. I'll stick to my subtle Smiths.

Shady rays work great for hours in the sun. I judge them on eye fatigue. I had mine on 5 hours mowing etc yesterday. Zero issues.
@JASON VOORHEES Luxottica owns Oakley, Ray-Ban and 90% of the world. It's one big boy. Maui Jim left Luxottica, sadly Oakley and Ray-Ban are only names now. It's good to see a new company make a quality and keeps are dollars in the usa. (Maui Jim is also USA based but they are sold in Luxottica stores so they are priced very high.)
Yep big man if it is not polarized and your concerned with looking at your cell you have big problems. Just rotate your phone or take them off. For the sake of others don't bitch about getting a free pair of glasses. Do your homework and make sure you don't come off as the entitled a-hole.

I prefer poly lenses, but good ones. I agree about the logo. Its too plain and generic looking. They should come up with something better than that. As insignificant as some would say that is, it really cheapens the look of the glasses.

I have to disagree strongly I have Ray-Bans, I have boutique sunglasses and these are of fairly decent quality. They are much better made than sunglasses you get at a grocery store or at a convenience store. they’re worth what you pay for them. And furthermore, I don’t know if any competitor manufacturer that has a no questions asked you lose it you break it you get a new pair for eight bucks shipped that’s really why this brand is so well positioned in the marketplace and why I own four or five pairs of them, and I only own one pair of Ray-Ban‘s at this point. To me as a non-prescription sunglass wear, I really enjoy the variety of having multiple pairs of different styles for 1/3 the cost of ray bans or similar. (Dictated)

@Baleb Croughton Persol sunglasses cost quite a bit to make as they are handmade and use premium Acetate and specialty Crystal lenses. There are still companies that supply a high-quality frame and lens that are a step above your normal sunglasses.
Luxottica does the same thing with ray bans and other designer brands except they charge hundred for a pair of glasses that takes less then $30 to make and won't replace them either

Ray Ban uses plastic lenses in MOST of their glasses. Very few use glass. And Polarized is NOT a bad thing, well, unless you like glare.
