Im so thrilled and excited for this! I live in the USA, so this engine is rare. I picked up an NA 606 and have been dreading the parts hunt, especially for pistons and rods. Please keep this product available to the market for a long time. It will help us American builders out so much
I'm in a similar situation. Bought a NA 1997 om606(supposed to be the most similar block casting to the turbos) I have turbo head and exhaust manifold/ stock turbo. But I've still been in the 'parts accumulation phase' for about a year.
@@Robdutton91 Brother, it's the same thing. As long as you use good bearings, it's fine. Cheap rods are probably not the lightest but that's seldom the main thing people are after and no dealbreaker.
Hi Mr. Luke. Greetings from the oldest town in Texas, USA, Nacogdoches. Another informative video. My 1999 MB E300, is up to 786,560 miles and running well. For those of you who are wondering, yes it is the OM606 and no the engine hasn’t been apart.
Luke, when you are bored some time and find some spare money sitting around, i would love to see a DieselPump UK built OM 604 2 liter 4 cylinder turbo with say 200-250hp, big pump and everything. I think that would be cool for one, and it would fit into more vehicles. there's got to be a million of those out there.
Very rare in Australia, took me over a year to get one (1990 w210e) destined for rear engine hotrod truck. The std turbo wristpin looks twice the thickness of my boosted sbc pin .910 dia and 0.200 wall. the more i see the more i like this engine. great work luke,
Hey Luke. You’re the number 1 specialist in OM606 in the world. Please try turbocompound from M57 335d or even triturbo from M550d/750d. You can prepare a special manifold and downpipe and put 2 or 3 compoundturbos with hybridization. The advantages are: -a super compact size system that could be very discreet under the bonnet even with stock air intake until the first turbo; -best way to enlarge power band since low until 7000rpm once this is the most reving diesel engine in the world; -use the ecu to control the edc performance injection pump to create a flat torque band of 500nm from 2000 to 7000rpm avoiding issues with excessive torque on gearboxes. For the W210 will be the ultimate sleeper ever even when you pop the hood. How much horsepower are 500nm torque at 7000rpm?
The Supra 2JZ and Nissan RB 86mm aftermarket forged pistons need a lighter rod pin due to the higher RPMs seen, most failures on these engines is in the mid range when they see all the torque and break rods or lift heads, it only makes sense to use a heavier pin on a lower RPM and higher torque production style engine. Im surprised a H beam rod was used instead of a beefed up I Beam rod. Again on the petrol 2JZ and RB engine we tend to ceramic coat the crowns and on engine with oil squirters we tend to remove them and plug them up to keep all the oil flow and pressure for the bearings.
I think that locking oil squirters is just for 1/4 mile. For overall street usage i would leave them on. Maybe with a bit stiffer spring (which will open with a bit higher pressure). However i wouldn't push it over 600hp crank. Rn i'm having "half" of 2JZ in terms of displacement. 1.6EcoBoost that is doin happily 280hp. Cheers mate :)
The comparison was the ring package, which differs in a diesel engine, from a petrol engine. But those are fundamentaly different between the two. A diesel relies on compression to provide a hot enough environment to burn fuel upon I injection, where gasoline requires a spark.
Hello Mr.! First of all i want to congrats You for your video ! I really like them! Second of all , I have a question : Do you know something about M104 Mercedes engine 320S gasoline ?! or maybe can point me in the right direction....Thanks! keep going! P.S. I also have a OM 605 on a w124 but i sold it ...
You know i do see engine depos selling all kinds of jdm engines. But i never see a om605 606 for sale imported. I think of people saw them they would buy them for😅 swaps.
I asked chat GPT if the USA 1999 Mercedes E300TD had an electric fuel pump. This was the answer No, the 1999 Mercedes-Benz E300 Turbo Diesel (W210) does not have an electric fuel pump inside the tank. Instead, it uses a mechanical lift pump mounted on the side of the engine, which pulls fuel from the tank. The system is designed for a diesel engine and operates under vacuum and low pressure, relying on the mechanical pump to deliver fuel to the high-pressure fuel injection pump. I'd like to get one and run it on waste oil. Please advise.

I’m sure if they sell well he’ll keep making them. Vote with your wallet

there are "no-brand" connecting rods (probably just like these) already available to purchase for less than half the price
@@danielsvamp do you really want to cheap out on building your engine? If there’s anywhere you want to cheap out it’s not engine internals

this Guy needs to get Alan Millyard to join two 606 engines together and produce a v12 6litre diesel. Alan is easily capable of that.
Would be interested in the weight difference of the Turbo/NA pistons given the skirt design differences.

I love the 606 and your work!
Could you make a Video about the cable x System to get the speedo working in a w124 conversion with a different Transmission? Greetings from Germany
I was wondering why you never use/sell girdle plates on your builds? Could you share your opinion on that subject?
When will we see an update on the big Green truck?

thank you again for the good technical video
I had OM606 N/A engine from a -97 W210 and it did have one oil squirt hole per piston and the block did have oil squirters
Did you guys try the OM656 (inline version) on anything so far? I'd love to see if you did.
You should make turbo pistons, lol
Om656 … what should I do to it
do these also fit the om603 N/A ?
When are you going to engage a manufacturer to build pistons?
Hi, I want to swap a M117 in a MB W116 with a OM606. Any experience any build guide available? Thanks in advance.

Can we get a om603 turbo vs n/a comparison?

are they compatible in om602 engine? co'z i planning to buy those stuff to upgrade my om602 motor..
Used turbo pistons with new rings or own na pistons? What do you prefer?
He does a build where he does exactly that, I think it made 740HP?
😎👍
What's the max hp for a turbo'd na engine?
He said about 400HP in the video. An NA would never make that without a turbo.

Good morning, you could also apply a Ceramic coating to the top of the Piston Crown to reduce heat transfer into the Piston.

I wonder why they made a na diesel
It sucks and it’s slower than drying paint
i would ask the taxi cab drivers all over the world who enjoyed 30mpg in the 70s and a million miles on the motor. right tool for the job.
Mercedes have very very expensive parts today.

VW has proven long ago they both do the same job.
You are just chasing money and wasting engineering time.
Literally no engineering had to be done to make connecting rods fit NA pistons
