    I mean all of them are as good or most likely better than me but why do they hold the mallets up so high lol. Maybe our teachers are just from different schools of technique

      I think that the marimba players hold their mallets high for projection of sound, and then don't raise them back up to mute the ring. Maybe for kind of a sforzando effect. They are only background music for the soloist, after all.

      @@musicalman3499 I think they are referring to holding them high up on the mallet, they are within "normal" height ranges.

      Probably just for control, I find myself going further up the stick for more control (Such as green scales at high tempos) as you have a more even balance, however, I don't think is that technical of a piece for that to be the case. Probably just a different technique that was taught.
