Toji reminds me a lot of Kenny Ackerman. A cold blooded mercenary who went on killing all the way until dying a brutal death himself. Those two actually hated each other and were hated by people surrounding them. Sometimes people are so fed up with their own resentment that it becomes their only reason to live. Toji wanted to die in this despicable job and Kenny hoped to be a better person by gaining supposed grace from the founding titan instead of changing his life.
Villains inspire us because they represent the supposed negative side of what fuels them, lack. We can't really relate to the hero's or the strong that much because they were born with extra abilities that the majority doesn't just get. Even if you do work hard it won't always match up to those who are just naturally better. Only a small few are lucky, like what Dimple said in S1 of Mob Psycho about psychic powers. If anything, powers basically do more harm than good cause the majority of the reasons to use them is to show off until an actual threat comes along. Jealousy and insecurity can be both internal and external. It's one thing to were you feel inferior for not having extra but it's more of a problem when external factors keep making and remind you to fell bad for not having them at all.

Don't remember when, but I remember somewhere that someone pointed out "Toji Fushiguro and Toji Zenin are two different characters entirely". Toji Zenin is the one who left it all behind. Screw Jujutsu norms, screw everything. He follows his own instinct like he always did. Toji Fushiguro got caught up in his wish to prove Jujutsu society wrong about him by killing Gojo. He didn't act according to his instinct of just running away from Gojo, he had no reason to fight him. Zenin left it all and lived according to his instincts, Fushiguro lived with his emotions
I had a different take away personally. That Toji Fushiguro was the cure to Toji Zenin, Toji Zenin being the accumulation of hate and insecurity that pushed him to prove his worth. Once Megumi and Mamaguro were in the picture he was said to be stable. But once she left in the end he regressed back to Toji Zenin, trying to fill the void and ultimately getting himself killed for doing so.
